Finally! The right video for me. Clearly explained AND demonstrated! Thank you!
I've been listening to prog rock and I really want to learn it. The amount of odd time signatures and changes of it troughout the songs are quite impressive. Thanks for the video! 🙂
You’re welcome! 🙂 Hope your journey through prog rock will go well!

thank you so much! i have my piano exam tomorrow and im trying to absorb as much as possible haha😅 helpful video so thank you
You’re welcome :)
I'm confused. For the example you showed in 3/4 shouldn't each bar end on 3? If it ends on + doesn't that mean each bar is 3 and a half?
Good question! Each beat can be subdivided. For example, if we have eighth notes 🎵 in the bar, that means that each beat in 3/4 time can be subdivided into two. This means we count 1 + 2 + 3 +. The first beat is 1+, 2nd beat is 2+ and 3rd beat is 3 + . I hope that makes sense. It would be helpful to add in a visual here.

I'm enjoying your video but if you can be showing it on the keyboard how it operates it
Is 6/8 time signature the same as 3/4? I did the maths and they are the same. Im new to music theory anyways.
Hi Mii, although 6/8 and 3/4 time mathematically have the same number of eighth notes, or quarter notes, they are not the same. 3/4 we need to feel as 3 beats. 6/8 technically has 6 beats because eighth notes gets 1 beat. But we need to feel it as 2 large beats, first 3 eighth notes as one beat and 2nd three eighth notes as the next beat
2/4
Thank you!
Which time signature do you find the hardest to count?
5/8
4/4

0:01 Rachmaninoff Prelude in G Minor?
Yes! You guessed it.

Is there something I can explain better?
@@PracticalPianoTips no you’re fine! It’s just theory in general lol
don’t she did not explain this well
Came here because of Dream Theater lmao
Hope you learn something new :)
Oh Boy!
what the heck where you counting on the first example. You were counting 1 and 2 when it should be 12. then you didn't explain the 1 e + an ah 2 then it didn't even make sense. We're just learning this, if you're going to make a CZcams videos and expect people to watch it then pay attention to what you're doing and double check your work. Think in terms that people don't know anything about this. Im new at this and I caught a mistake you made. Ive spent time watching your video and your making mistakes and now I'm confused, don't waste peoples time..
Hi Jeffrey, thank you for your comment. I watched my video again to see if there are any mistakes in my counting. After rewatching, I did not find mistakes in my counting. I realize that this is a difficult concept to grasp in the beginning, and this video is not the first one to watch to understand how to count time signatures. You would need to understand the concept of time signatures top and bottom number and note values first. I do have videos on that subject if you are interested. As for counting 1 and 2 and when there are no eighth notes, that way of counting is better in that you can make sure you hold out each quarter note for the right amount of time. It’s basically counting the subdivisions of the beat.
Also, just a quick note, making CZcams videos takes a lot of time. Most of the time, creators are not getting paid much at all for their work. I’m sorry you feel that I wasted your time.
