Guys, don´t stress it. Every Queen reaction in CZcams is filled with over sensitive people who are just waiting for an excuse to jump on the reactor.
When I first saw the video I also thought it was about him being out the closet, but it´s about women empowerment and it was written by the bass player. The housewife part is an imitation of an old english soap opera and Freddy actually thought that it was NOT a good idea for them to dress as women. Maybe he was rigth because they were about to be big in America and they got banned in MTV and a lot of US shows got canceled because of this video.
I really like your reactions and I would love to see more Queen so my suggestion: React to the Live Aid concert, it´s only 20 minutes, it has got 4 or 5 of their major hits and it´s considered to be one of the greatest moments in live music ever!!! Peace gang!

That comment can be taken multiple ways and Freddy Mercury was bi-sexual so folks can legitimately be offended. The concept of the video ironically was
his straight bandmate’s idea. Lol. This video was banned on MTV when it came out.

He wasn't a trained dancer so they lifted him, he dove onto his group , was carried & sang Bohemian Rhapsody while upside down. It's on video & is amazing . The other people in the house were the band members. The pretty blonde girl was Roger Taylor. The whole series in the house was a joke based on a British soap opera called Coronation Street & it wasn't even Freddie 's idea. It was Roger's girlfriend who first suggested to Roger that they should wear drag. Roger brought the idea to the band and, as Freddie said, they couldn't wait to jump into their frocks. It is very much in keeping with the British sense of humor to dress in drag. Actually, the band dressed as the cast of the popular soap opera Coronation Street but here in the US, that the pastiche was lost.
It was Freddie's idea to bring the Royal Ballet dancer into the video. He loved the ballet.

So when he'd invite them to parties in Germany he'd fly them over, let them stay, they'd party for a couple of days, and then he'd fly them home again.
Apparently he was very generous like that.
They'd always say no, its not right. But he just did it.
All his parties had a theme with strict rules. Like everyone had to dress in drag or they couldn't come in. No exceptions.
And they'd all go the extra mile to get ready.
But then he'd appear down the stairs dressed as a Court Jester.

The song had nothing to do with a soap opera or Freddie coming out. The song is about a person who wants a partner who respects them enough to not be clingy, jealous and controlling, particularly when the person is out with friends or by him/herself. The video was simply a campy homage to the British soap opera Coronation Street and Americans just didn't get it or didn't want to get it. Queen was way ahead of the times so much that it goes to show just how genius they really were! And John Deacon wrote an absolutely beautiful song that I'm sure many who've been in jealous or abusive relationships can relate to.

The bassist wrote the song(deacon) and its about him opening up emotionally with their fanbase. He was shy and he finally broke free from that due to the fans influence. He was also pretty pissed off that they did this music video the way they did, especially when it meant so much to him personally.

    Some background from Wikipedia:
The song is largely known for its music video for which all the band members dressed in drag, a concept proposed by Roger Taylor, which parodied the long-running soap opera Coronation Street. The second part of the video included a composition rehearsed and performed with the Royal Ballet and choreographed by Wayne Eagling. Whereas the parody was acclaimed in the United Kingdom - where cross-dressing is a popular trope in British comedy - it was considered controversial in the United States.

Wrong- funny, but wrong, the band dressed up for a joke playing tribute to a very funny English soap opera show. It had nothing to do with Freddie coming out. He never did come out. He didn’t ever discuss his personal life.
You all really need to react to their live performances. They were amazing. PLEASE DO SOMEBODY TO LOVE live in Montreal 1981.

LOL just so you guys know that's a interpretation of a famous ballet called Afternoon of a Faun "L'apres-midi d'un fuane" by Nijinkski, which was unconventional during it's time as well, around 1912. It was received by quite a few ballet aficionados with the same confused and uncomfortable reception as you guys and the general assertion was the overt "indecency" of the choreography.

@@5thPhoenix Hahaha!! I mean the strange dance portion in the music video. With the spotted leotards and the pipe, the grapes and the way he moved. If you haven't seen Afternoon of a Faun I recommend it. It's so unlike traditional ballet. When I first looked at it I said it was like looking at the first contemporary interpretive dance!!

Music raises social consciousness. When we use words like real man, we use these words unaware of how they're received . We're all in a state of learning how to appreciate the diversity in our world these unconscious statements are a time to learn. This subtle biases are the things that the LGBT, women and racial issues we as a society are working to change. :)
I almost said something about the popping the Cherry comment after the wild cherry video. We need to think before we speak. Surprised your girlfriend didn't say something.
Another way to keep your female viewers.
