I love the 1986 Chain Reaction theme song with a 1970s disco twist! RIP to host Geoff Edwards and RIP to composer Bob Cobert. My favorite Chain Reaction version is from 1986 to 1991. You know what that means, "1970s DISCO TIME!!!!"
This is one of my favorite game shows of the Carter, Reagan and Bush administrations. The eighties were my decade because so many good game shows were on network, syndicated and cable television between January 1st, 1980 and December 31st, 1989.
NBC nearly went broke in 1980. Supertrain was a big part of the reason; then the USA/NATO boycott of the Olympic Games in Moscow nearly finished them off. So they had to reuse everything I guess
That was a good chain. Thankfully, I'm not the only one that thinks these chains up long after the show's gone. This one's my favorite, since I'm a "Back to the Future" fan. CORN--DOG--FOOD--CHAIN--REACTION--TIME--TRAVEL.
@@herestoyoudoc It's done in the same way as the old CBS Special bumper: they spliced together parts of the track "Call to Danger" from the original "Hawaii Five-0" soundtrack
Chain Reaction and Lingo are my favorite game shows ever. Mostly Lingo, but both Chain reaction theme songs I love. This's one like a Disco mixed with instruments, the other is a sizzle style electronic sound. Either way I love them both.
Going off the last word in your chain: SPOON--FEED--BAG--BOY--WONDER--BRA--STRAP. In the unlikely event that you don't know, Batman's companion, Robin, was known as the "boy wonder". I only regret that Chain Reaction is no longer on the air and, if it were, that we can't be hired as its writers.
"This is Chain Reaction, where one word leads to another. Today's special guests are Joanne Worley, Lynn Redgrave, Nathan Cook and Betty White, and th star of 'Chain Reaction', BILL CULLEN!"
If there was a second season planned, if not for "Blockbusters", I think the pitch would be: "This is the game when one word leads to another and the right word can lead to $10,000 on.....CHAIN REACTION!"
@PolskaRezystans; Yes, I knew the Supertrain reference from previous research. I have also seen one of the clips that used the original version of this theme. Personally, I prefer the sped-up version [hence this post].
If this were on today, I'd like the first week to be with the stars of The Kissing Booth 2: Joey King, Joel Courtney, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Taylor Zakhar Perez.
Sorry, but The Dean of Game Shows, Bill Cullen was indeed my favorite emcee of #ChainReaction, no disrespect to #GeoffEdwards or the dude who did the update in 2005ish!
Unfortunately, the changes to the bonus game was because it went from nearly impossible to win, to too easy to win, and the last change balanced it out.

It's cheaper to produce film and television shows in Canada, so that's why many American productions choose to come here to do their work (particularly in Toronto and Vancouver). In the case of Chain Reaction, due to an American being host and the show being filmed in Montreal, CanCon regulations required at least one Canadian to be on camera at any given time. This was why Rod Charlebois (who was a staff member at CFCF at the time) was chosen to be Geoff's on-air sidekick and announcer
"R. I. P. William lawrence francis cullen (1920-1990) you will be missed by all always & forever amen"🙏👼.
This song couldn't be more disco if John Travolta beamed down from outerspace in his disco duds with Disco Stu into a disco.

Perfect to play at an 8th grade dance just to change things up and see how the kids react.
R.I.P. Bob Cobert (1924-2020)
In 1985, USA Network reaired the original series as a repeat broadcast !
That's where I first saw the show.
Yeah, I used to watch this on the USA Network after Cartoon Express.
I remember watching chain reaction on the USA network when I was a kid and it's still excellent today. 😀👍
This show is coming back in 2021 and Dylan Lane returns as host and they are using this theme again.
Our version's got the modern incarnation too. Thanks for the additional info and publicity!
Did you know that this theme is a sped-up version of a background tune from a TV show called Supertrain?
I do now!
Yes, I did.
NBC nearly went broke in 1980. Supertrain was a big part of the reason; then the USA/NATO boycott of the Olympic Games in Moscow nearly finished them off.
So they had to reuse everything I guess
Love this!
Makes me wanna get mah *Studio 54* on!!!
I can certainly hear the "Supertrain" influence
That's because it was recycled from Supertrain.
Thus, the influence!😜
Stay tuned for Password Plus next on NBC

It's time to climb aboard the Supertrain!
Same theme, same composer.
It does not sound like the Supertrain theme.
@@GCBlues45 Portions of the second version of Supertrain was used here. It is during the bridge you hear it.
