    Is there a reason you use liquid gesso instead of regular acrylic gesso?

    • @JessicaRocks
      @JessicaRocks  Před 3 lety

      This is an "acrylic undercoat" so I think it is one in the same...the packaging just has that in large letters! I'm probably going to play around with some different brands to test out the thickness and opacity. I use it as an addition base coat for light colors that usually require several coats, and it also helps on these rocks that are super smooth because it creates more "grip" for the paint to adhere. 😊

    What brushes and paints are you using?

    • @JessicaRocks
      @JessicaRocks  Před rokem +1

      These are also Apple Barrel acrylic craft paints, adn the brushes are just a set with different sizes and shapes that I got at Walmart....all except for the really fine onces for the flower swirls, which are disposable eyeliner brushes from Amazon!

    What do you use to seal the rocks? I’m helping a friend with a memorial and she’s going to have guests paint on rocks in lieu of a guest book and the rocks will go at the base of a tree that will be planted in memory of her loved one. What would you suggest for paint pens? Aren’t Posca pens pricey? I want to make sure they will hold up to the elements. Thanks!

    • @JessicaRocks
      @JessicaRocks  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Christina! What a beautiful way to honor someone's memory! I love that so much! This particular rock is sealed with Art Resin, but I think for your purposes I would stick with a waterproof UV spray sealer that you can get at Walmart or Home Depot. The only reason I say this is because Art Resin CAN yellow a bit of its out in the sun for long periods of time. Our local group contributed to a "river of hope" at our Ronald McDonald House and I noticed that some of the resined rocks yellowed and, depending on what the design was done with, faded. The acrylic paint seems to hold up best in sunlight (watercolor pencils and alcohol inks will fade but that probably wouldn't be a good fit anyway). Poscas can be expensive. Tooli Art Acrylic pens are a little more affordable. Another option might be the paint pens they sell at Michaels (I think it is the Craft Smart brand) if you need to have more on hand. Sharpies could work, but they can be run when you seal them. If they want a colorful memorial, I would suggest base coating the rocks before hand in several different colors and let people pick from that. My son's preschool did that one year so the kids just picked the colored rock they wanted!

      @@JessicaRocksthank you so much for your help! I’m excited to see how they come out and I will do some test rocks to make sure they don’t run. I agree, it’s a beautiful way to remember lost loved ones! I never would have thought of it but am honored that I get to help. I will definitely do a base coat. I saw you use liquid gesso, I believe, and will do that with light colors for the base as the rocks are darker grey. Any acrylic paint for the base colors, right? I love the idea of even making frames with some doodles so they can write on the inside and they’ll be more decorative. The possibilities are endless and I’m so excited I found your channel to help! Thank you!

      Yes I think any acrylic paint will work! Many of mine are the 50 cent Apple Barrel paints from Walmart and it seems to hold up really well. I've found some unsealed rocks in our yard with it that our littlest did, and it's held up surprisingly well without the darn sealer! I would love to see how it turns out! I have pages on FB and Instagram...feel free to DM me a picture! I made some larger rocks to put at the gravesides of several family members last 2 summers ago and I'm curious to see how they've held up when we go back this year!
