    This year has been a rough one for so many, and it's proven that focusing on gratitude is good for your mental health! This rock painting tutorial is nice and easy for a beginner, and there are so many color combinations to experiment with! For this batch I wanted warm, neutral tones that remind me of fall for the backgrounds and rich colors for the flowers (that Tuscan Red is a new favorite!). If you asked me to draw a realistic flower, I would fall on my face, but I love making these sweet and simple swirly flowers as accents!

    These are very nice and cute videos. I appreciate what you are doing here. I understand the value of making painted rocks, and also the kind attitude of leaving them in places where others may get a pleasant surprise (when unexpectedly coming upon the rock--such as on a walking trail in a neighborhood). Perhaps you can discuss a topic in a future video about where not to put these painted rocks. I feel that city parks, playgrounds, and other neighborhood places, are fine places to leave these rocks. However, I feel that these rocks do not belong in protected natural areas--like national parks, state parks, and other wilderness/wildlife areas (where I have found them occasionally). Although the rocks are cute and are placed with well-meaning intentions, the painted rocks spoil the places where people want to experience unspoiled natural surroundings. Although the painted rocks are small, and are easily removed, they hurt the experience of nature if found in these protected areas. I feel that they appear like unwanted graffiti or litter, in these natural areas. Thanks!

    • @JessicaRocks
      @JessicaRocks  Před rokem +1

      That actually is on my list, and I think you just gave me a kick in the pants to get the video made! 😊 The general "rule of thumb" is to leave no trace, and specifically not to leave them in national parks or protected areas. Unfortunately, when something grows like rock painting has, the bad apples surface...and there are some people that genuinely just don't know or realize. I appreciate so much that you reached out kindly and with information, rather than attacking. I help admin 2 local rock groups and as admins, we have been subject to some nasty private messages, some even threatening, about this very issue, even though we are constantly reminding people of the guidelines. It came up in a city near me about even leaving them at parks and was a pretty heated issue, but it was really nice to see that both sides came to an agreement to designate specific areas in the park where the rocks could be left and taken! 😊

    • @GeologyDude
      @GeologyDude Před rokem

      @@JessicaRocks Thanks for planning to do this issue in the future. I agree that these rocks are left with the best intentions, but there are definitely places where it is inappropriate-despite the intentions. Mostly, these folks just don’t understand, but like many things, some people get upset when told that certain conduct is not allowed in specific areas. Obviously, seeing these things in protected areas really irritates me. But they are cute and rather sweet when in common public areas. Thanks again!

    • @JessicaRocks
      @JessicaRocks  Před 3 lety +1

      I would say it helps with both, but moreso for adhering the paint and creating a nice base coat for the colors to be solid and bright! 🙂

      It's sort of a primer very similar to a white chalk paint. It helps in not needing many coats of color for coverage and also helps give grip on these really smooth stones.
