Yes they do get commission. Owning a TV without a licence isn''t illegal. just apparently watching programmes as they're being broadcast is. Tho it's only the BBC that enforCes this TV tax, other channels are funded by advertising. To use BBC i-player will require a licence from 1st September. I don't see why I should pay what I call the "Peadophile Tax", if you don't know as an American, look up Jimmy Savile, Rolf Harris, Stuart Hall and others, still employing known sex offenders, and of course Boy George from 80's band Culture Club, he is on prime time BBC tv. Look up "Boy George sex offender". He tied up a male escort with a view to using him as a sex slave. I'd have thought afterthe Savile scandal the BBC would've learned their lesson!!!

Having a TV doesn't mean you have to have a TV licence. its only if you watch live television
They have to prove that you are which is extremely difficult unless they are allowed in... With the television on or they peep through a window.

do not allow them in the police officer will only be there to prevent a breach of the peace so you declining for them to come in would be a breach of the peace if they tried to force their way inside your property. as my understanding is the warrants they get are only for peaceable entry. so practically useless.
Finally never confirm anything with them not your name or address or even if you live there.
The best thing to do if you see them coming especially with the Police is don't answer even if it's obvious you are in

Just had a visit from a TV Goon yesterday @4pm.
It was the usual threat, "I am not going to argue with you. I am just going to come back with police and a search warrant."
All I asked him was, "I am I obliged to answer your questions".
When he walked off, I called him back and told him that he was a liar.
I told him that," In order for a warrant you need evidence and since you do not have any , you have just lied to me. You are a liar!"

A UK TV License is required by law for homes and premises that may have any "Receiving Equipment" that receives any TV broadcast channels. The BBC - as a 'public body' - is responsible for the issue, and collection of any revenues, as well as being the sole beneficiary of said revenues.
It's all a bit outdated if you ask me, the other channels are all commercial and funded by ads.
So for £140 a year you get to watch and listen to as many TV/Radio and Freeview channels. you pay more for Sky..ect
I see how it worked. You kept cool and knew your rights. I don't always like these videos as some people use the law and 'bash' the other person over the
head with it in a really passive aggressive way. You didn't seem to do that and I'm glad to see it. I never pay my TV license.

i sent them a letter saying i don't watch t.v and if they send anyone to the address acting on their behalf they will have entered into contract and will be subject to a fine not exceeding £5,000.
I applaud your constraint with this man. How can they possibly charge you for receiving anything transmitted over free air? This concept is lost to me. I would be watching the live telecasts whether they wanted me to or not. In the US these people would be in a dangerous situation coming up to peoples houses. Bravo!

Hahaha I am now keeping a video camera close to my front door for when they show up! I cancelled my licence just over a year ago and got £70 refunded :) Only thing I will do differently to you though mate is I will open the door and say in a rather too loud voice " Oh, hello Mr TV LICENCE bloke" (as I keep turning my head towards the living room) haha I Can't wait! Even their "Search Warrant" has no power without your consent. There are enough short vids on CZcams now which prove that if you stand your ground and know your rights, even bailiffs with accompanying P.C.'s cannot enter your property without your agreement.

Without a warrant,they cant force an inspection.The license is only needed if you watch live broadcasts.It should be called a 'live broadcast license',not a tv one, as it includes pc and mobile.Your best way to avoid is to print out the bbc website terms and conditions,show it to them.There is also a martin lewis page on the license. They state its not needed if u only have a tv for dvds and games.The problem is in proving it,if u let them in and they notice u have built in freeview or tv arials

If you watch or record live tv you need a licence. But if you just use iplayer or netflix for example you don't need one.

clue up, put foot 1 step ahead and don't pay, follow this: 1: imply all right of access to your property, 2: remove the right for them to send spam letters 3: remove yourself from none-paying list 4: cancel your licence and get a refund on whatever you paid for brainwashing you all this time 5: record the goon in case they turned up and shut the door hard in their face then call 999 or 101 for trespassing and harassment oh and don't forget do no obliged or accept their warrant to enter your property and make sure you challenge that as suspicion is not a good enough reason to enter someone property.

What a crock! In Australia here the sat dish when installed by the pay TV mob *remains the property of x company* and we are not legally allowed to touch them. Billy Connelly once told a joke about TV licensing saying that they came round to his house. After denying that he had a TV the TV Licensing person said that she could see that he had an aerial on his roof. His response was that he also had a pint of milk in his fridge but it didn't automatically mean that he had a cow in the back garden. I tried that on them when they came round to my house many years ago. They didn't know what to say to the cow in the back garden joke and cleared off pretty quickly.

This gentleman is not following the tvl inspectors procedure. He needs to be reported for this as well as intimidation and threatening behaviour.
They can come back with police and warrant but all of there paper work is a contract of consent including the "WARRANT" don't consent don't "stand under the legal, don;t understand= no consent"

Just to add here, a fairly highly placed worker in the BBC ( a family member) has assured me that they will never come back with the police and a warrant as this costs them more than they are going to get back from you. Also, the only thing in the back of TV detector vans is a bunch of blokes with clipboards with a list of addresses that are not licenced. Bully boy scare tactics to force us to buy a TV package that is biassed, shit and full of lies. If i wanted that i would subscribe to sky.

so when i move out my plans are to by an old TV (probably analogue) and hook up an xbox and just have internet in the house so i can access xbox live, my TV wont receive signals to any channels, do i not need a TV licence?
How do they check on licences abroad ?...you pay a TV licence in Germany, Italy France Sweden etc, ??....anyone know ?

Hi, I'm quiet baffled that anyone like this does this job, especially when he thinks that having a Satellite dish means that the person on the property has access to live broadcasting.
Satellite dish have also been used for other things besides receiving broadcasted tv channels, they are also used for internet, I don't work with theses products, but I do know other company's that do.
The same goes for Television Antenna in case any of these goons try to bring this up, TV Antenna's can also be used for broadband, why I have converted several for my customers to use for Long-Range internet, they can be used to pickup wireless internet from near by internet cafes, look up IEC DVB-T TV PAL female / RP-SMA male pigtail on ebay, this is just example, theses can be connected to a high power router and you can plug a regular antenna cable in.
Any SW issued will be a fake one. That Capita write out themselves. It's not one from a court.
