- Bonjour everyone!
Thought I'd buy this and try it out, see it its worth you buying one !
This review is fully Off the Cuff, No planning, No scripts, just open the box and see what it does.
I didnt even read the instructions !!!
I think its well worth a watch if you drill out for concealed hinges regularly!
Put it this way... I was pleasantly surprised.
Cheers Ryan

I use mine in my workshop and after every hole i just give it a quick blast with my air blow gun, it works great.
I have had one for a few years. Works very well. I do have a vacuum on hand though.
Good bit of kit, I have the shelf pin jig and the pocket hole, no complaints and very fast once set up
I have one used it for a few years works great
This is great, I used mine on kitchen doors for years. I've recently come accross the one by Blum and it blows the kreg one away.
If your doing a lot of hinge drilling I would recommend the Blum eco drill not cheap but very fast , I drilled the plate off and fitted a dust extraction port for my extractor so no dust to clog the gutter and to clean up every hole 👍
I clamp mine down and run my extractor cleaning the crap up straight away. You don’t have all the grief with clearing it out.
I used one the other day. Works good. Did 14 door panels.
Top man, didn’t look at the instructions once. 😂🤣😂🤣
Thanks guys.
Hello Allan sorry for the late reply!
Yep I never have and probably never will haha.
It all worked out in the end.
😅😅
Great video as always Ryan! just a quick one - what brand of hinges and drawer runners do you use for your wardrobes? I know your hinges are 'soft close' but are your drawer runners 'soft close' too? Thanks Luke 👍
Thanks luke sorry for the late reply.
I.use gtv hinges as I like the amount of adjustment they give compared to the blum I've used before.
I use alot of standard side mounted full extension runners but do use the slow close and push to open ones when clients ask for them 👍
What blade model and brand do you use for that bosch mitre saw?
Erm I'll have to check when I'm in the workshop, it's even the original or a trend blade but I'll check
Bought one a year ago. The plastic around the bit basically melted after a few months so stopped the drill going straight down so some holes would be 3mm in or 5mm in or just slightly too big with all the movement. I still used it for a while being extra careful but I've just gone back to drilling them out without it. In MDF it clogs up constantly so you need to hold a vac against it so you need to clamp it down to be able to hold the drill and vac. It's overall just a bit of a pain and doesn't last.
Thanks for the review, it's really helpful. I haven't had the chance to use it or than a handful of times. Lots of comments on here of other brands such as trend that do better, metal versions.
I guess you get what you pay for 👍👍
Handy for the price. Having to clean it out each time would be irritating though if doing lots of holes. Did you try it with a battery drill? Looked a bit cumbersome with your big drill.
I've tried drilling hinges before with a cordless and they don't seem to cut the mustard.
I guess the drill was a bit big ( and old 😅😅)
Bought one recently and great results, the only downside is clearing the crap out after each hole. Vacuum doesn’t really work, but it isn’t too much of a hassle to undo the cutter section from the jig, clear it out and reconnect. Does that make it quicker than freehand? Probably not but crisp, repeatable results.
I guess this is aimed at beginners who find it hard to drill them out
I find this useful for consistent cuts, usually clamp the jig down then unlock client it out then move the jig then luck the drill in again
Alright Sam sorry for the late reply
Yeah I think this is defo the way to go, defo more consistent when it's clamped and cleaned out in between 👍👍
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop keeps the bit sharper as well
I literally just used mine on a wardrobe build. Great tool.
I use mine all the time. Clamp it down and hold the vac up to it, its then self cleaning.
Yep we started clampibg and it does help.
Also the vac seems to work for us too 👍
Through that away and get the Blum mini press 👍
I'll take a look at it cheers
Slight difference in price between the Blum and Kreg though 😬
@@paddydunne774 It's worth it if you're using it professionally
@@jrsuk1170 no doubt
Blum mini everyday 👍👍
Had one of these for a few weeks , if you clamp the jig and release the collar from the jig each time , otherwise it will clog terrible , MDF is worse 😳
I agree mdf isn't great to drill!
starts to drill the first hole in the MDF, suddenly it's the 2nd hole! he starts and hey presto it's the fifth hole. I wouldn't recommend the jig, it leaves random holes in the workpiece :)
these are great for small jobs where its not orth setting up a better way or for site work. i have one and its great but the clogging is an issue. if you use a cordless drill its easier. i clamp the jig body and then clip in the drill part conected to the drill and find that the best way. . the times i use it in the workshop i use the air compresser to blow it out. .
for bigger jobs i have a small morticer that i use to drill the holes. its great but i dont do it enough to set it up permanantly
