    I own the 70-300 G and the 100-400 G. The 70-300 is capable of being a walk-about lens but not so with the 100-400. Yes the 100-400 is superior but not if you resist taking it along due the heft. I thought about the 70-200 but am now rethinking that after this review. Lack of reach may reduce composition.

    A disadvantage of the 70-300 is the non-availability of the lens ring to connect it to tripod especially if you use it for movies.

    • @that1cameraguy

      And if you mount it directly to the body without a grip, the tripod plate might scrape with the body of the lens.

    I am interested in something a bit longer than my 70-200 F4 as I am now moving to full frame. I think I will miss that extra reach you get on an APS C body. Just don't want to spend a fortune. I find most of my photos were actually taken with my 18-105 F4 on my APS C bodies which is an equivalent focal length of 27-157 so I am pretty well covered for most of what I do.

    I was watching the pics on my 15" MacBook Pro, but didn't see a difference between them. It would be nice to see them compared against each other in Lightroom or under the same conditions. I can't believe there's no difference in image quality and it's just a difference in reach/light. Or is that exactly the case?

I want to buy 3 lenses for family videos (video in mind not photography) that will give me excellent quality and give me the choice of shoot different ranges and scenarios. Budget aside. I heard you last night talking about tamron 28 to 75 that will be released soon. Not sure if that would be good. Anyways, what 3 lenses would you recommend for sony A7iii camera

    • @DawidMilczarek
      @DawidMilczarek Před 6 lety +2

      16-35 F/4 + 70-200 F/4 + 55 F/1.8. Very compact set of 3 lenses, great for video. Something for wide angle, some telephoto lens and great lens for portraits / low light. I personally am using A7III + 16-35 F/2.8 + 70-200 F4 + 55 F/1.8 and I am veryy happy with this set. 16-35 F/4 is better for video than 16-35 F/2.8 (if low light is not an issue) beacuse of OSS. You can also replace 55mm 1.8 with Batis 85mm 1.8 (good for portraits too and has OSS).

    I am thinking about the 70-300 because of the price and the reach compared to the 70-200 and the fact that I am going to keep my a6300 when my a7III arrives before (I hope) my July 4th vacation. Because of my APC camera I may get it before then: good for zoo pictures.

    I thought to get my get first camera with tele lens because ccloser cann covered with iPhone 15, 70-200 f4 can shoot macro which is more capability, butAPSC 70-350 has more zoom, which should i choose? How about Rx100 Vii and RX10 iV, are they worth it, I hope ew version with Exmor T going to release tho. I thought to get 20-70mm F4 and pair with 70-200 F4 but as I realoised closer can cover with iPhone 15, I also noot surre if A7Cii/A7CcR are worth it since the big lens wont get benefit from smaller camera body and the EVF experience isn't going to be as good as full size A7. I also.thought to get Hasselblad X2D with single 28mm (22mm FF eq.) because I love its image quality and color and I can crop in a lot too, I also thought to get Leica Q3 which is good overall in one package, also Leica D Lux 7 which is ggoodd enough in a small beautiful package but I hope fixed lens camera can start at ultrawide with good macro too. I focus on Sony because it has that unique ultrawide to tele 20-70mm F4 lens and I Love Sony more, but if I won't get it but a super tele, should I get other brand? Any other brands has small super tele that has macro too like Sony 70-200mm F4 and good in video with minimum rolling shutter? But I still not sure, any advices and suggestions?

      Alpha Male the 3 tested lenses have the exact same issue. The 70-300 is the most expensive 70-300 ever, for any ff camera. The nikon equivalent is 40 to 50% cheaper. I'm using a beercan til Tamron or Sigma release their 70-200 f2. 8, which will probably be cheaper than the f4 from Sony

    These two lenses are very good, and i owned both... But i ended with selling them, as all my other Sony gear... Because i was not able to get a sharp shot on fast moving subjects, with both my A7 MkII and A7R MkII !!!!
    It's a shame spending that much cash and not being able to take correct pictures !!!
    Now i use a Fuji X-T2 with 55-200 and 100-400 for sports... This is a complete other level for fast action !!!
    I'm sure that with the third generation of Alpha cameras, the AF is better but seeing that an A9 is not even weather sealed, dont pushes me to go back to Sony !

      Remo Garone Most useful comment ever! Thanks! I'm currently cameraless and was looking at the a7ii with maybe the 70-200 f4. Looks like it probably won't cut it for when I want.

    • @rga66
      @rga66 Před 6 lety +2

      Hi Terry...
      The A7 MkII is a very good camera, for general photgraphy, travel pictures, street photography... No problem at all and the FE 70-200 f/4 G OSS is really a great lens, but i used them on fast moving subjects, like small planes, birds or dogs running to me ! This simply did not work and i had too many misses, even with the much better A7R MkII !
      At the beginning i purchased an A6000 and an A6500 but i quickly noted that for having really good optics for these bodies, i needed to purchase full frame glass, which is big and heavy.
      If i moved from Canon to mirrorless, my main motivation was lighter and more compact gear !!!
      You should try a Fuji X camera to be sure you like that system, because we are all different and dont like the same stuff !
      But if you don't like having to dive into the menu any 5 minutes, if you like cameras with one button or switch for any main set-up... I think that a Fuji X-T2 or even X-T20 could be the one for you !
      Fujinon provides amazing glass... Sharp, well built, compact and light, for less money than Sony's full frame ones.
      I don't know what kind of photography you use to do... But i can tell you which lenses i bought and all of them are fantastic :
      - XF 35mm f/2 R WR
      - XF 50mm f/2 R WR
      - XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS
      - XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR (this is a beast of a lens)
      - XF 55-200mm R LM OIS WR (at least as good as Sony 70-200 f/4 for half the price).
      By the way, after my X-T2 with power grip, i purchased an X-T20 a few days ago, as B camera and for street photography with my 35mm !
      I hope it can help...

      Thanks for the response. My first Slr was a fuji, handed down from my dad when he developed a problem with his right eye, well before auto focus cameras. I still have it along with the lenses.
      My main subjects at the moment are the kids and they're exceptionally difficult to capture when they're bozzing around on zip wires, playing basketball, riding roller coasters at amusement parks, etc. I also like a bit of motorsports and some landscape photography hiking in the lake district. A bit of a mixed bag really. Nothing professional, just enjoy my photography so I don't have an infinite amount of cash to throw at it.
      My most recent camera was an a77 mkii which I loved with the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 although it wasn't great at 2.8. I'd like a camera that is newer technology wise, hopefully lighter and better specced than the a77ii.
      I figured that now would be a good time to go FF which the A7 range seems to be relatively cheap to do. If I invest in FE lenses now, hopefully I can stick to Sony for a while. I get the impression that DSLRs are being overtaken by the tech in mirrorless cameras and that they're the way forward.
