Part 2 Advanced Tips and Tricks for the Tracker IV
• Bounty Hunter Metal De...
The Tracker IV has 3 modes DISC, ALL METAL and TONE.
DISC Mode- depending on where the disc is set, the Tracker IV will incrementally single out and knock out different metals from detection, this is done in a linear fashion from Iron-zinc Copper pennies, dimes and quarters cannot be discriminated out.
ALL METAL- All types of metal will be detected gold, silver, platinum, Iron, copper brass etc. In ALL METAL all targets are assigned a high tone weather it's a ferrous target or silver.
TONE DISCRIMINATE- This is a dual tone response with automatic iron rejection. In this mode the Tracker IV can be set to respond with a low tone or grunt for nickels and a high tone for all other coins.
My preferred coin and jewelry shooting settings are:
Tone Mode with the discrimination set at approximately the 12:00 position. The way you set your sensitivity is to run it all the way to the right maxed out, then back it down to the left to the point where the machine stabilizes.
With the Tracker IV set in this manner you will be running this machine as "hot" as possible for the area you are hunting in and in manner where the Tracker IV will reject junk iron targets, assign a low grunt to gold and nickels and a high tone to other coins and silver jewelry.
Dude.... Do you know how awesome you are? The amount of time and effort clearly put into this demonstration is amazingly thorough. Thanks brutha. You effin rock!!!
Thank you!! Super happy you found the video helpful!
Yeah I totally agree with u
Do you really believe that LMAO... That detector is crap LMAO wow
@@bigedkc my g the detector is not crap I have it and it is a amazing detector so idk what ur saying🤦♂️💀
After watching 37 different "how to Detect" videos I ran across yours. Thank God.
I learned more in this one brief walk through than all the others combined. No, I'm not kidding.
Thank you so much.

So - I lost a very important necklace to me in a friends yard back in December. Bought this metal detector to track it down and thanks to your video - realized I was absolutely not using it correctly. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Hello Kirsten- Thin gold chains can be tough to detect If the chain is gold, make sure you hunt in all metal mode, which will give you more of a chance to locate it. You'll have to dig more junk, but All Metal will give you the best chance to find the necklace. Good luck!
That is awesome to hear!
Did you find it ?
@@hdrider05 legend has it that she’s still out there detecting
I’ve had my Tracker IV for ten years and you showed me things I didn’t know until now.
I bought a Tracker IV (Pioneer 101) from Wal-Mart about 20 years ago. The first time I used it I went to a local beach here in Florida. I found a nice heavy 14k gold bracelet. Paid for itself twice over on the first day. I have found hundreds of dollars worth of clad coins, two gold rings and a silver chain over the years along with that go!d bracelet. Haven't used it in years, need to go to the beach again. Good machine.
Thank you for making this video! I've been using my tracker 4 and with all the different setting its so confusing. However my boyfriend and I go out by his property and he enjoy finding old railroad parts so I tend to set it on all metals. But trust me id much rather find a gold ring or some coins! Lol
Thanks for watching Kelsey and good luck!
You can actually find rare railroad relics as well as things people normally carry like coins and jewelry.
mine is coming to day and im so happy to start this journey, ive heard a lot of good things about it and great vid,
This is by far the best video I have seen on EXACTLY how to (and why to) use certain settings and operate this machine. Thanks!!
Glad you found it of value and thank you!
Good video. While I own and use several different metal detectors, some high end, I still enjoy playing around with the Tracker IV. It's a real joy to swing. Fun in parks and tot lots. It'll get the gold, too. Just like you said. That Tone Mode is okay, but I just use Disc Mode turned all the way down and dig everything. It still ignores iron. Bottle caps and such. In fact. the Tracker IV has some of the best iron discrimination of any detector that I've used. Thanks again for the video. Happy Hunting.
Thank you for making this video! I couldn't find the instructions, and this is our first metal detector. You made it very clear, and I appreciate the demonstrations.
Thank you so much for this video. I have gotten my first detector, the discovery 1000. I had so much iron my first few trips :) Now, I feel like a pro with these tips!
Insightful for a beginner like myself thanks for taking your time to share you're knowledge top man.
Your video inspired me to get one. Just got mine today. Can’t wait to take it out. Thank you for making a clean clear understanding video for us. You Definitely made my day!!!!!!
Thank you for the instructions! I got my Tracker IV for Mother's Day (after 4 years of asking) and have taken it to a real beach and a rocky beach. At the real beach I found 2 quarters and 4 pennies (it's the beginning of the season and others have gone over it many times with metal detectors). On the rocky beach I found a dime and 11 pennies and a bunch of garbage. By watching this video I will have more fun on my next trip out and will find all the interesting stuff and less of the junk! Thanks again.
carol lenser Good luck Carol!
This is the best video for this detector which I just bought with the pin pointer. Thanks and answered all my questions.
Just ordered one cant wait to get it in the mail. Thank you for the informative youtube. Greg K
Thank you so much. Bought my Tracker IV today. This was way better than the "instruction" booklet!!
This is so helpful because I didn’t know how to use the settings and would waste my time digging up tons of rusted nails and pieces of wire. Thank you for the video
I’m impressed by this and your other videos. My tracker 4 is an awesome machine. I did not realize I wasn’t using it to its full potential. Thank you for this and your other videos. I’ve learned a lot from you.
Glad I could help! Good luck!
Thanks so much for teaching me how to use my first metal detector. I like this detector for the price and build. Seem pretty decent.
GREAT video. Just got a new Tracker IV as a Christmas gift and can't wait to use it. This is my 1st detector and I have NO CLUE what I am doing.LOL This video seems like it will be a HUGE help. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, I have been looking at the tracker IV for a while but wasn't sure how to use it, but now that you have shown me , I'm going to get it for my first detector.
its a great first pick
thanks for the video just got one and had no clue how to use it now I feel a little more confident on how to operate it.
thank you for the great video, i got mine in the mail today and was messing around with it and got kind of frustrated, after finding and watching this video its clear as day. thanks
Great video! This is the best video I’ve seen on the Tracker IV. I bought this detector. I’ll be going to the beach this weekend.
Great video ! Just got mine a couple days ago (replacing my last one that crashed) found .41¢ yesterday and just this morning while walking on the beach found my best find of all. I'd only found corona caps and beer tabs when a couple walked up to me asking had I found a gold bracelet by chance. I seen that as a challenge ! After they narrowed down the area they were at the previous night I went to work. Determined to find this bracelet and prepared to spend several hours doing so I found it within 5 min ! This couple was so grateful ! I was just in shock I had actually found something of value! Great machine
nice video, just picked one up today looking forward to using this and trying your settings,
Thanks for the informed description Russ. Great presentation.
I have one of these detectors and I have modified it so the analog sensitivity gauge is disconnected. I've been experiencing longer battery life better depth with clear signal on item identification. On a pair fresh batteries this detector will find a quarter in 8 to 10 inches (Easy)in moist soil. The higher the conductivity of the metal the deeper the signal. I have become so good at identifying the potential targets with the sound given off by the detector that I can tell you exactly what is in the ground before pulling it out. Great for beginners
Thank you. This is great information.
Nia Lorre are you saying just disconnecting the strength meter? Or the sensitivity knob? Can you make some videos on what you did? So basically it is going to become way more sensitive. So your saying its limiting its own sensitivity?
Great no nonsense video. Thank you!
Thanks a lot! Hit the beach a few years back with mine and found a ton of trash (which wasnt so bad cause we cleaned up the beach a little) but now I know how to separate the nonsense from stuff I actually want. Much appreciated!
Glad the video was helpful. Good luck!
Man ,I ended up trading one of my electric guitars for this exact model.I was really excited at first ,had no buyer's remorse whatsoever at first because I felt it my heart that it was a good decision but I sort of gave up after he first time I went out to detect metal. I felt like a fool the majority of the time I was doing it because I had no idea whatsoever of what to do or how to operate the dam thing and I almost gave up but ,I'm no quitter ,I came online and found inspiration again thanks to you and other folks that take the time to make these videos. It is a fun activity and I live next to the ocean in Maine so it's a perfect place to own what of these babies plus ,I've read nothing but reviews about this specific model . Now I have a basic idea how to operate it. First day I dug holes all over the place only to find all kinds of crap but now I know how, I can't wait for this rain to leave .Thank you man. Good video and very useful.
Thanks for the kind words! Good luck!
how did it go man? im about to get one and try for my first time also :)
Sir. Pecorino. The new one coming out in 2020 does indeed have crap rejection. I understand that the tone is very mushy.
Awesome Demonstration! This will help me a great deal with my Tracker IV.
Thank you for the video - - I Just obtained a Used "Tracker 4" , and , it is helpful to know about the toggle switch at minimum !!!!!! You also demonstrated the knob settings very well.
Thanks and good luck Shane!
Thank you so much for this video. It explained so many questions that I had.
I’m getting this metal Detector and thanks for the review this will help me a lot
How are you getting on with your bounty hunter I got one to Christopher from Australia 🇦🇺
Very helpful! Today was my first day on the beach with my tracker IV and i found a Chevy. Well I found the keys, not sure how if i'll have much luck finding the chevy though :) Oh and I found .14 cents! in 30 minutes of work!
Wow great find, walk there then drive back in your new chevy!
Thanks alot i was hesitant but you made me buy it, this device company should pay you for promoting so excellent
Glad I could help
Great video. I was lost trying to follow the manual. Thanks so much.
I rewired a coil plug on one of those several months ago for a friend to give to his neighbor kid. works great now. btw, the Gold bug pro you sold me is doing great and I love it. thanks again. SBD, Jay.
Glad you like it! That is a great machine!
Thanks!! Best video demo yet.
Just got this exact md today. So excited to use it. Thank you so much for this video!
You got a great detector for sure. Enjoy and GOOD LUCK 👍
@@AmericanDetection thank you!
Ive had this metal detector for over a year and havent used it because i didnt know what to do. Thank you for this video. Will be going pretty soon. My son is into magnet fishing so hell be doing that while i metal detect.
Glad it was helpful! I hope you both find some awesome things! I have an entire playlist that has all of my Tracker IV tutorial and how to videos here: czcams.com/play/PLnqt0OJUNvd5BtSzKejoshFK9MQ2ZZ1kZ.html
As a novice..i watched this video, snagged my hubbys metal detector and went outside.. within minutes dug up an old coin. Not sure what it is yet as it needs to be cleaned.but it was so much fun! thank you!
I recently just purchased this detector and made a video about it myself on my channel. Great video! So informative
Great detector. Enjoy it man!
Bought one yesterday! Thank you for the demonstration!
I'm glad you found it of value. Good luck!
Just got mine so excited!!
Excellent video here on how to use this device. I recently borrowed one from someone and I've never used a metal detector in my life, but I feel like now I can use it no problem. I'm about to go and find out.
I'm glad you found the video helpful. Good luck!
Bought my first metal detector. I opted for the Bounty Hunter Tracker 1V after watching many good reviews about it. Read the manual, put in new batteries and tried some air tests. Was only getting 2 1/2 to 31/2 in. on different coins, 5 in. on a pulltab.. Figured I must have got a faulty one and took it back and got another. This one performed only slightly better. Took it to a beach and dug mostly phantom targets. not in the hole and not in the soil that came out of the whole. Can't say I'm impressed with the Tracker 1V. Maybe it's possible I bought two lemons but think I will save my money and get a Eurotek Pro or a Garrett 250
I just found one at Hobby Lobby for 79 bucks and snatched it up thanks for all your videos russ
Yayyy! I just received mine and for the price I was very skeptical! 👏👏👏
So how's it going with the new detector having much luck?
I'm so glad!
Awesome video very well made and very informative thanks for uploading...
thanks for the vid! just got my first detector ever!
i just dig everything. I have fun regardless.
Me to :)
Great video. Ive been using my Tracker 4 wrong. Thanks for this advice.
Ty just got mine. Can't wait to enjoy it
Me too buddy
Hi Russ. Great Demo. I like the sleek design of the Bounty Hunter. :) ttyl -Drew
Outstanding job and very helpful!!!!!!
Thanks for the great tips!
Very well made video!!!
Thanks for this video. Going to Amazon right now and order one.
Wow what a great video! Thank you so much! I've had my b.h. for a while, didn't pay a dime for it either, and I haven't really used it because the instructions that came with it weren't clear to me. After watching this I'm confident I can go out and use it finally! YYYAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!! I'll let you know when I find my first treasure!
*UPDATE* Found lots of clad and then upgraded to my AT PRO. My kids still use the bh and I'm looking to get them another one
its ok if u are looking to have fun an you can find rings with it coins an a lot of old toys um it acts funny some times if its below 45 degrees out des knob around 1 or 2 a clock an u wont spend all day picking up nails but u still get the coins an good rings i have one my self thats what im useing right now an i have found 10$ coins an an old 1940 cap gun the rings an some odds an ends its great for a starter but im hooked so im going for the at pro gold better levels of des an water prof hope this helps
Just subbed your channel. This review was well done.
I found 6 coins in my yard from these settings thank you.
Thanks for the video, really helped me. Spent hours digging up iron, lol!
Glad I could help!
Thumbs up !
A very easy understable basic get started video :-)
I just bought my first detector and I'm a noob in this hobby.
My detector is a typical lo-end beginners model (I later found out) MD6009, which is a basic chinese detector, apparently sold under many different brand names (which I also later found out).
It has the exact same controls as your Tracker IV, except the control panel design is slightly different
I'm not starting out chasing for gold or ancient treasures, but merely for lost metal tools and iron bits in my yard and garden.
Your video got me over my first hurdle : getting started in a sensible way.
Thanks buddy !
Welcome to the hobby!
Thank you for the video.. Most shows on detecting use machines that are $700 to $5000 range, its hard to follow those when I have a $90 starter ... Famous Trails....
You're awesome! Great tutorial my friend.
Mines coming today, im so exited!
I hope you like it!
@@AmericanDetection its awesome!
Great demo.. Sure appreciate your taking the time to explain how the detector works. settings etc. Makes me wonder how the very expensive detectors compare with the Tracker IV?
That would be a great video to learn from for sure.
I just got myself a Tracker IV, and I found that certain amounts of gold it will not pick up. I used a 1/20th ounce solid gold coin as a demo to test out the tone setting like you did, it picked that up, but I also have about a gram of gold flakes that were prospected out, and they're not huge, but big enough they can be seen if laying in a plastic container on the ground. The Tracker IV wouldn't hit on them no matter how close I got or where I put the sensitivity. But the rest was fine.
thanks Great Video, Just bought one, my first metal detector!
Well you picked a great machine to cut. your teeth on. Even if you upgrade in the future my bet is you’ll keep the Tracker IV as a backup. Welcome to the hobby and let me know if you have any questions. Good luck and Happy Hunting!!!
This is so helpful, thank you!
I use my Tracker in a more rudimentary way. I hunt parks, so I just have it set to disc with both knobs half way. Subtle high tones mean coins or jewelry, but often bottle caps too unfortunately. Soda pop tabs are a high tone with a grunt, but very distinct and easy to avoid. Foil and candy wrappers are weak tones or very grunty. Loud high tones, and drawn out signals that run across a length and not just on a single spot, indicate large scrap metal/iron junk. With my pin pointer, I don't spend more than 60 seconds on a target before either procuring it or revealing it as worthless and moving on.
спасибо большое за видео. на русско язычном ютубе крайне мало видео обзоров данного прибора, благодаря тебе и субтитрам я решил, что эта машина достойна внимания
Спасибо за добрые слова, мой друг. Это очень хорошая машина по стоимости.
Found one on facebook marketplace near me. I lost my job so ill just be a treasure hunter instead. Sounds cooler
How's that working out?
Hell yeah bro !!! Great luck I just bought one for shits and giggles you really have to real the owners manual so you know what your doing or watch this video
Brilliant 🤣👍👍good luck!!
Yes!
@@sgtpepper1138 lol no kidding. $20 a month in scrap. $30-$40 a month in change, but varies widely. Sometimes treasure is good but alot of times its not. There are days where i dont even find a clad quarter.
This was very clear. Thanks!
Hi guys. My girlfriend bought me this metal detector and am excited to use it when it arrives. I'm new to this and would like to thank you for making this video. Very detailed and informative. I hope that offer of yours is still on the table if I find a gold ring lol
Enjoy the Tracker IV Fabian! I think you'll get along famously with it!
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. perfectly done. thank you !!!!
Thanks now I got my tracker iv at the settings I want
Thank you for the lesson/review on this. I have an old Pioneer 101 and think it is similar to yours.
Even though this video is 8 years old it really helped me today!! My kids bought the bounty hunter tracker iv for me two years ago and I’m just now finding the time to play with it. I’m taking it on our trip across Country in April in our RV... I’m thinking 🤔 maybe I can have some fun and make some extra money to pay for gas 😂 thanks so much for your video it really helped me out.
Glad it was helpful. I have an entire Playlist that discusses this metal detector. It might allow you to make more gas money!
@@AmericanDetection thanks I’ve been watching 👍🏻😊
thanks Russ my next door neighbor has one and wants to go with us wasn't sure how to set that one up very helpful :)HH!
Hey Michael! Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was helpful. The Tracker IV is a great little machine for coin and jewelry shooting modern parks and tot-lots and such!
thank you, nice demonstration!
Thanks man that was a great help.
Thanks for Sharing.... I owned mine for over a year and never used it. But I am goin to start. This video made me more comfortable with it. Was afraid it wasn't good enough but your video helped out a lot
Glad you found the video helpful. The Tracker IV is a great little detector. Enjoy and good luck!
@@AmericanDetection thank you sir, would you recommend a step up from this? in the near future, when i get a couple of trips detecting under my belt? or do you think this will be fine?
@@MetroCollectablesandvlogs honestly the Tracker IV will be good for a while. As a matter of fact, I keep the Tracker IV in my van so I have a detector everywhere I go. I think you probably shouldn't need to upgrade really until you feel like you need to. The Tracker IV can and will find most of the stuff higher priced detectors will. You just don't get as much target ID information.
@@MetroCollectablesandvlogs if you feel the need to upgrade the Lone Star Pro is a great detector. I do a hunt with in one of my recent videos. Enjoy!
@@AmericanDetection awesome, thank you.. i'll check out that vid
For a rather “cheap” detector this thing has worked so well for me so far! I’ve had to for just over a year now and I’ve found ALL sorts of goodies, plenty coins, some over 100 years old and some silver, as well as a beautiful 14k gold ring with an emerald... this machine just works.. keeps me from upgrading to a much more expensive machine. The Garret AT pro would obviously kick this things ass in efficiency but this machine will just about find anything you will find with any other machine... at least that’s my opinion!
Are you still using it? I’ve been thinking of getting a metal detector for some fun and I’m a complete beginner. Is this one good for beginners? It seems pretty cheap right now at $100.
@@robertr2861 not using it anymore I've since upgraded to a minelab equinox 600, but this machine was a decent detector to get me started on the Hobby, definitely worth it for a start up machine that you can use to see if you like doing it , you can always upgrade in the future once ya save money up to invest into another detector you'll have better technology and settings to work with that will make your hunts easier and more efficient
I’ve had my detector for over 5 years, and I haven’t found any deep old coins with mine. I’ve found plenty of clad coins and modern things near the surface, as well as one Indian Head penny that happened to be just a couple inches deep, but it doesn’t seem to do well with deep coins. I don’t know why, since I’ve found plenty of deep bits of aluminum and nails even with disc mode, but it doesn’t seem to do well with actual desirable targets.
@@thejessing9911 might be your location??
@@DoylesDigs possibly, although I’ve detected many different old sites and haven’t even gotten any signals in some of them. But, I have just started to use the settings described in the manual for finding coins, so there may just be nothing good where I’ve used them. The settings are very simple though so I would think I would’ve found something by now.
Thank you! This is a great video
Good demo I am just getting into detecting I think this is going to be my choice
Glad you liked it! If you have any questions before or after you purchase the unit let me know I’d be happy to answer them for you. If you’d like to support the channel there is a link to purchase this product from Amazon in my description for the video
I wont lie that was my first detector! I still have it my second detector is the f4 I was trying to upgrade but I just got the f4 back from being fixed and im getting ready to send it back again I treat it like a baby!! my tracker IV gets thrown around dropped I let my 5 year old use it and I have NEVER had a problem with it it is in my trunk at all times!!!! and I use it in the water! not the unit but the coil it sweet im afraid to put the f4 DD back in the stream I did it once and my baby had a fit lol you did something with this video because I have never been able to figure out the tracker to a tee but you did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! perfect demonstration!!!
Hey thanks so much for the kind words 49erdigging! That's too bad about the F4 but you are right for the money the tracker IV is a great little machine and can take a licking and keep on ticking!
Russ Balbirona i have this same detector and saw that bounty hunter offer's a 10 inch coil for the TK4. Will this increase performance?
Typically a bigger coil means more depth...on coin sized targets you can expect an inch to 1.5 inched more depth.
I really like your video homeboy!!!
This was a huge help in using my Tracker IV.
Thanks.
+michael therrien Hi Michael, I had a question for Russ but he hasn't answered it. Maybe you might know. I set my Tracker on Tone Mode, Discrimination at 12:00 and Max sensitivity like Russ said. I wasn't supposed to get iron and all I have been digging is iron. BIG pieces of iron, like a grain scale weight 3 1/2#'s and a drive shaft yoke from a model T. Any ideas!?
Honestly I'd have to watch the video again. I haven't used mine in a while. I know someone who lost a $5,000 bracelet they want to look for in their yard so I need to bone up on the settings.
Get In is what the English chap says on his channel.
+get in Hey sorry Michael didn't see your earlier question. Here is the problem with almost EVERY detector. Big, rusty iron will fool your detector as it will mimic a high conductor like silver. The best way to combat this to try and use the discriminator in your head since the discriminator in the machine is being fooled. Lift your coil up off the ground several inches if the detector is still detecting the item solidly even though you have your detector 6+ inches off the ground then the chances are the target is VERY big as your detector can not pick up a coin sized target at such depths. Good news is you will learn the differences between a good high conductor response and an iron target mimicking a high conductor. Bad news is, is that it will take practice...so for the first couple of months or hundreds of targets you will have to dig good and bad targets but as you learn the subtle differences in target responses you will get tell tale signs that the target is good or bad. It will just take time. Hope this helps.
Thanks Russ, I guess practice makes perfect. Thank you for your reply and your help.
I did end up digging a 2 foot hole in my lawn and found a drive shaft yoke for a Model T and an old grain scale weight so all was not lost. I may already have a buyer for the weight and my brother restores Model T's so it may be of some use to him.
The Garrett AT Pro Pointer was more helpful than the detector itself because you can't get the coil into the hole and the pin pointer was beeping a large area so I knew the item was big and not a coin or jewelry.
Thanks again Russ, I'm havin' fun.
Yes sir great video!
Very informative
Hi Russ.
Well, I've had my Tracker IV for about 8-10 years now and have rarely used it. But now I'm ready to get semi-serious about it. That's a great video, thanks for the info on how to set it up. I'm actually thinking now about getting a Garrett Ace 350 now. Would that be crazy to do, or should I stick with the Tracker IV for awhile? I want to hunt the beach and be able to put the coil underwater at least a foot or two. Thanks again!
Wow great vid!
thanks a lot for the video man
Excellent, thank you!
Thanks!
I just upgraded to a TRK4 and am taking it out to a city part tomorrow.
I've studied this over and over and will try your settings. Thanks!
