- COME TO WORK WITH ME | REALITY OF AN ULTRASOUND TECHNOLOGIST
Hi CZcams fam, welcome back or welcome if it's your first time to a new day in the life video! Today I bring you along with me to my doctor's appointment where I get a Holter monitor for my heart and work a busy graveyard shift on four hours of sleep. I talk about the reality we're currently living in as a healthcare worker in a pandemic and the things you may come across as a sonographer in the future. We can only do so much under our scope of practice however there are many things we can do to help patients which is part of our healthcare duty. If you work in a hospital, you may see things you've never seen before or experience different situations that no one ever taught you about. This is my experience, my advice to you, and what I have to say.
If you happen to enjoy this video, I'd appreciate it if you LIKED it and SUBSCRIBE to the channel for more fun adventures! I would love to have you join the SonoGes family. Every single one of you means so much to me! As always, take care, be safe, stay PAWSitive, be KIND, and we'll see you in the next one! XOXO, Ges.

yes, hospital setting is not for everyone , especially in a busy hospital ! But always remember we are not really work for hospital or any organization, we are working for people , to help people ! We trained for having skills to detect diseases to help people .. Never rush exams , skip pics .. ignore your pts/ , no matter how much extra hard is for you , but you do it ! … that’s what I tell myself everyday to go to work … and you’re doing a wonderful job girl , take care of yourself, and wish you the best !❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍💪💪💪
Aw Lola, preach it!! You are so right! I love this. Thank you for taking the time to share that. We do what we do for our patients and to take care of those in need, to the best of our availability. You are amazing, thank you for what you do!!!!
This is a career I was interested in before, so this was very interesting to watch!
Thanks for watching, Hilary!
the vlogs are getting so good !!!! go geselle! sidenote: okeeffe's working hands lotion is really good too :-)
aww, thank you tracy I appreciate that so much! ooo I'll look into that brand!
Cracked hands are the worst!!! I just ordered some cotton gloves so I can use petroleum jelly on my hands overnight. My mom has the vaseline jelly cream and it wasn't as greasy as I thought it would be after rubbing it in for a minute. Hope this helps.
Thank you for doing everything you can for us, patients, and your coworkers. Sometimes the littlest things can make a big impact and I hope you know how appreciated you are.
I hate when my hands are so itchy and dry. We wash our hands so much lol. That's awesome, I hope it helps. Let me know!!
And of course, I appreciate YOU so much for sticking by my side throughout this journey of mine! It means so much, I see you, I adore you! Thank youuuu!
@@lolgeselle wear gloves while scanning - on both hands. It helps! The gloves are also a reminder to keep my hands off my face.
What a busy day you had. I like using shea butter. My hands feel moisturized after application.
super busy ! hehe . oooo shea butter sounds nice hehe
love the beat u had on as your were showing the street view
thank you!
Hi Giselle, love your videos. Have you tried Dove Lavender and Yogurt Foaming Hand wash? It has worked for me. Hopefully it works for you. Keep up the awesome videos. I'm going to apply to a Sonography program this year 2022 😊.
Hi there! I have not but I will definitely look into those. Thank you so much!! And good luck, don't be a stranger! :)
I use O'Keeffes hand repair cream! I need to use it regularly but I use it right before I go to bed and my hands feel to smooth in the morning
I see multiple people like this! I'll definitely have to give them a try! :)
Loving your videos. I've learned so much about this field ❤. Is there such thing as a breast Sonographer and if there is what advice would you give in how to get into breast Sonography.
thank you so much ! yes there is a breast sonographer - you have to go to a general program and work in a clinic/outpatient setting!
I’ve been using Cetaphil to help with my dry skin for years :) maybe it’ll help you! What happens if you aren’t able to do scans on all the patients assigned to you by the end of your shift? Do you get in trouble for that? Or does it simply get rescheduled? Also what time is your favorite shift?
Thank you!! I’ll definitely check them out! They get rescheduled to the next day if they’re not done before midnight. We have graveyard techs whereas other places do not. You just reschedule the routines. They get to them when you get to them. Typically you don’t get in trouble. My favorite shift would be the graveyard because you don’t deal with as much as day shift does lol.
Do you know of any outpatient settings where ultrasound techs can work or is it really just the hospital? Thanks :) also its awesome what you do!
Yes! You can work in radiology departments/ clinics that serve as an outpatient setting, even doctors offices! I have other videos on this if you are interested -- check out the "ultrasound" playlist!
👍❤️
BabyAveeno lotion is the best for that cuz I constantly wash my hands a lot and same thing happens to me but used that and it relieves the pain itchy and takes away those spots
Thank you so much!! I’ll definitely try it!
I’m considering going to school for this. I’m thinking of making a career change from accounting to medical at 30. Would you help me with these few questions:
What did you take to do this?
How long did it take?
Is a bachelors worth it?
What certificates help?
How fast were you able to get employed?
Would you mind providing what you make annually?
Sorry I have so many questions!!! I just want to make sure I make the right decision.
Hi hun! I answer all of these questions in all of my videos. Sorry to make you go on a binge watch lol but go to ultrasound playlist or day in the life playlist and you’ll find all the answers there! If you need other help finding info lmk ❤️
In terms of scope of practice, where can I find that information. Does that vary according to the facility that you work at? I am a new graduate and starting my first job soon, and I didn’t think about this, video is very informative!
Thanks Tamarah!! As far as scope of practice, that does depend on the facilities. However, many places require sonographers to just do their scans/ procedures and deal with their department rules and compliances. :)
Have you tried Cerave?
I use it for my dry skin cause it does the same thing- itchy and redness.
I also use Cerave
I have cerave for my face, I'll definitely look into for my hands! Thank you friend!
ooo that's awesome! thanks for sharing!
I know this will sound weird but I have really dry skin and Aquafor for babies works for men
Ooo I've seen the brand aquafor! Thanks for the advice :)
On average, how many pts do you scan in a shift?
12-16 patients. I work 12 hour shifts.
how often do patients complain that they have to go to the bathroom during pelvic ultrasounds and also is it possible for a women in her first trimester to request a tranvaginal ultrasound rather than transabdominal?
Hi Vic, Lol, it's very common for patient to complain with transabdominal ultrasounds because of the full bladder. Not anything new, very often. And transvaginal ultrasounds should be done if warranted and needed at least in the first trimester up until 12 weeks. It can be done further along to check the cervix only. But typically you will do a tvag for better views of the gestational sac, fetal pole, and yolk sac. Most OBGYN and hospitals requires a transvaginal exam when patient is in early pregnancy.
@@lolgeselle okay thank you so much! I have had multiple pelvic ultrasounds and I dont like them for the reason of being extremely uncormfortable for me. But ever since then I have been interested in sonography as a career!

hi geselle...im wondering if you started having these issues after you got the jab? a lot of people are having these issues after it. Look up White Pine Needle tea, colloidal silver and Spirullina Chlorrela supplements. I take all 3.
hey, yeah I'm not sure always curious about it too but who knows. thanks for the tips!
If I go and get my degree in Vascular Sonography how do I become a CardioVascular Sonographer?
I pressed send by accident but will I have to go back to school? Or can I cross train and take additional testing? Also with this can I work in Peds?
I believe you have to work in the cardiac field for a year and take the certification test in order to be certified in cardiovascular. I’m in the dms program and that was something we had to research for the program entry interview.
you can cross train or get certified in echo :) just ask your mentors and advisors, it all varies depending on schools and programs -- also look into CCI
Thank you guys I asked the directors, and they said I could cross train. Also some schools offer a diploma program. So after I finish rams/rvt I can turn around and take the diploma program for cardio. The program last a year, I’m thinking that may be easier.
What’re you going to school for?
MBA Healthcare Management!
What a sweet bf!
isn't he!?! thanks for watching!
