  • In this Got A Match drum lesson, I breakdown the original Dave Weckl Drum Groove to "Got A Match" by Chick Corea from the first Chick Corea Electrik Band Album released in 1986. The Got A Match drum beat is a mix of linear funk and latin drums... I wouldn't base it off of any real authentic Latin drum beat, but it has elements of an inverted Afro-Cuban tumbao. Basically, It's a very cool Latin drum beat variation. Remember: This is my solution for the Dave Weckl Beat and this is Jazz. I've also seen Dave Weckl play many variations of this drum groove, so for all of you purists out there that are gonna say "That's not what Weckl did..." ...I say... make it your own.

Fabulous job, Jay. I miss your TikTok feed and demystifying where deceptive patterns begin and end. Hope you're doing well and thanks for orchestrating and sharing these parts. Best, Evan J.

I am currently at a dead end practicing this song. The bebop -part. My right hand can't keep up. Need to delve more into different techniques for right hand in jazz, push&pull etc.
Thank you for making content! I discovered your channel and socials somewhere about 8 months ago. I've been watching you play and you have influenced me and my drumming on a deep level. Huge fan. Keep up the good work!❤️💪

You should check out riccardo merlini. Probably the fastest hands of all time and has a full course on how to achieve his technique. He mainly uses it for singles but I have no doubt in translates to what you’re trying to do

Sorry Victor... that is not correct... that is, if you are doing Dave's thing. If you are doing your own thing... that will work. 👍🏻
