Easily my favourite Ultra show of the bunch. So inspiring and upholds the legacy extremely well, especially with The Ultra Star, boy what an episode that is. Hopefully Johnny's can release Hiroshi Nagano from their basement one day…
Apparently the beginning, and the ending we're planned out pre-production, but besides that the writers were free to do whatever they wanted. This probably explains it's so, and so commitment to an ongoing storyline.
Also to recommend episodes you left out. The Sleeping Beauty, and A Friend From Space definitely deserve a watch as well.
Actually not the case. There's some misinformation/confusion about this. The ending was not planned out during pre-production.
Episode 28 is my favorite episode of Tiga, not only for its well-explored Themes of the Week, but also because it plays basically the entire Take Me Higher during the climax, and I cannot imagine loving those scenes nearly as much with a different song. It's a serious shame to see Johnny's over-proprietary nature harm this show unnecessarily. Also, love the Xenosaga music for the vid.
Was hoping someone would notice the U.M.N. Mode track, lol.

I was never really into Ultraman, but it always makes me happy when someone talks about Tiga since me and all the kids that were born in 2000s in China grow up with this show. seriously the boys in Kindergarten talks and role play Tiga daily, showing off the toy and the transformation device thingy( and getting stolen by bullies lol). Ultraman was such a hit in China, that it still rank #1 as the most popular Ultraman in China and the nostalgia definitely helped with it, they also have a Chinese version of the opening and ending, which was lowkey rare back then since they just often use the original songs.
While nostalgia certainly plays a big role in Tiga being one of the most popular Ultras, I think it definitely has a unique appeal similar in reins to Ultraman 1966. I watched Ultraman Jack, Tiga, and Gaia when I was little, and it was only later that I watched Dyna and some of the other shows like OG Ultraman 1966. But Tiga is still my favorite to this day.
I think a huge appeal of Tiga is its tonal consistency, which really allowed it's episodic but subtlely continuous format to shine. The pacing for most Tiga episodes was tight and definitely made them each feel like memorable adventures. The later Showa shows from Ace to 80 all suffered from a lack of tonal consistency, as Ace and especially Leo suffered hard from the showrunners flip flopping in tone. Tiga being paced well and consistent made it incredibly rewatchable as well.
Though if someone prefers a series with more character growth and long storylines, then Tiga will feel underwhelming. I don't think relatively static characters or less running storylines makes a series less great though.
Great video on Tiga!! Tiga was my first Ultraman show growing up as a kid, and is insanely popular here in Southeast Asia, especially amongst Malaysians. Even in Japan, he ranked number one on a recent "Most Popular Ultraman Series" poll in 2022 on NHK! It was definitely the show that paved the way for all of Ultraman that came after. Can't wait to see your thoughts on Final Odyssey!
tiga was my introduction to Ultraman and I still remember being obssessed with the show when I was a kiddo. This review brought a lot of memories.
Iruma was my first ever Bossy lady crush. She still holds up how cool she is in the Final Odyssey
26:36 Oh Konaka. You just couldn't resist another Cthulu Mythos shout out.
Whenever someone asks me how to get into Ultraman, I always recommend either this or the original series. I've witnessed firsthand that you don't need to be a Showa fan to be hooting and hollering during the Ultra Star. And I've definitely seen firsthand that it can be a triumphant birth for interest in Ultraman. I think it'll always be a very cool show with some banger soundtracks and fun episodes.
Can't wait for the Trigger video that devolves into tortured screaming around five minutes in
Ultraman Dyna seems to be the forgotten one of the TDG trilogy. The out of context video doesn't even have over 100k views like the Tiga and Gaia ones. A video on that would be fascinating.
I personally have Dyna as my favorite. He never has any power ups like Gaia with V2 and Supreme or Tiga and his Glitter, his base ones are already pretty op anyways. He just fights with everything he has, using the help of Super GUTS and just the technology of humanity in general.
I still wonder if we do get a definite end to Dyna, he just got whisked away in a blackhole and shows up in some of the newer stuff now. Does he ever get back home?
@@speedwagonwaifu7434 That ending is supposed to be tragic. Dyna making it back home would ruin the point of the story.
@@jarjared3522 I guess you're right, makes me sad thinking about it. Can't help but let my mind wander around and think of how it would've been like if he did return though
15:17 “Looks like my mother-in-law” “Yeah, you’re right!” “No, her nose is bigger.” “But there’s a resemblance.” I had no idea that line existed, but I’m glad I know it does now.
My favorite dub line is from the crow man saying "you'll be bigger than pokemon!"
This was probably the first Ultraman I saw because it aired on 4kids. I also still remember telling my parents that year I wanted to go as Ultraman for Halloween and I wanted to make my costume like the multi colored version. My parents just told me to put on a red or purple sweatshirt and some pants, nothing else to even try to look like him.
With that said, I really don't remember much of the show (4kids dub, so its been 21 years) and I have randomly looked up the first episode on youtube over the past decade thinkin i'll finally just watch the show, but I never follow through. Still looks like something I might watch now, if I can still get my ass to sit and watch it lol.
Tiga is a great show!
“Flower” and “The Devil’s Prophecy” are still the most iconic and favourite episodes of mine from this series. The stage shit in the former and the flying kick to kyrieloid in the latter sealed the deal for me.
Man this is quite the nostalgic trip, I remember watching Tiga as it aired on TV back home when I was in kindergarten/preschool. As a kid my parents were pretty strick on what I could watch, no anime or action movies were allowed but they must have decided a show about some guy in a body suit fighting big monsters is safe for me to watch (if only they knew how much the fog kaiju tramatized me). I loved Tiga as a kid, this show was my first experience with concepts like FTL, time travel, Japanese mythology and so much more I didn't fully understand at the time like environmental protection, over militerization and more. There were so many memoriable kaijus within those monster of the week formula, even though I don't remember their names, I still remember the episodes with the fog kaiju, The crazy old man Kaiju who just wanted his village back to the way it was (I cried at that episode) and the bird kaiju who wanted to do the right thing (yup cried here too).
I remember my first Ultraman introduction was finding the Tiga dark horse comics in my local grocery store.
14:52 I'm not going to lie the 4kids dub theme is kind of a guilty pleasure.
Ah yes somebody who understands my pain about merch transformation taking too much time to show how awesome the merch is
It's also way too confusing now.
@@tseh3
More that it's really jarring and bangs the 4th wall with sledgehammer.
I cringe every time I hear the english announcer voice after every form change.
Imagine if Tiga was like:
"Tiga! Strong Type!"
And when it cuts to the human host fumbling with gimmicky plastic toys for every move.
Ugh
I’m 14 and I had no nostalgia with tiga before this. I’m watching the shows through year of release and continuity (Currently on Cosmos.) and I think this is the second best show in the series I’ve seen. (After Dyna in my opinion) so I can say it is as good as it’s hyped up to be.
Zelda Point Defense completely shattered my heart and it was beautiful.
I actually owned a white Cockatiel for 12 years. He was very sociable and lovable, but he ended up suffering a stroke. I took care of him afterwards but a second one a few days later stopped his heart as I held him in my hands.
So when Tiga showcased a "horribly mutated" cockatiel who wasn't intentionally malicious, was stumbling and bleeding from the mouth, in pain and suffering and the only release was to "be reunited with her deceased owner", it hit me like a ton of bricks. It was honestly beautiful.
Great series review! I actually grew up with the silly dubbed version that played on fox kids way back in like 2002 I think. This was also my first full blown exposure to the character. I also knew Ultraman had a relation to Godzilla so I always happily tuned in and taped the episodes regardless of the very bad dubbing. I think they only aired about half the series but the first episode and the Halloween one really stood out to me since Golza became my favorite Ultra-Kaiju and the other was like a Goosebumps episode haha. I really wanna see that Eiji Tsuburaya episode now, looks awesome!
Do you still have the VHS tape? I'm trying to look for promo segments that aired
@@bluebaron6858 Unfortunately I don't, I threw them all out once I started collecting dvds and Blurays like 15 years ago

Yeah I know about why the DVD has no take me higher it was because of Johnny’s Associates becoming a legit dumbass
I'm also gonna need every episode from here on out this long. This completely captivated me. Great job
I also grew up with Tiga, but Dyna was the one that really hit me hard, and both series' op themes are both awesome and nostalgic for me.
Ultraman Tiga!! I rewatched this show throughout my childhood - end of my teens. The show never gets boring for me no matter how much I watch it
I always thought "Flower" and "dream" felt "out of place", so thanks for informing me of the reason why! I am glad a lot of the episodes you praised were the ones I liked as well. I also agree with your favourite episode, it was truly one of the more memorable ones with one of the coolest monster designs. Some of the ones I liked that you didn't mention was the themepark episode at around episode 11, and one about a family trapped in weird space where they couldn't get out. The monster designs for those episodes were sick.
P.S Trigger was an embarrassment lmfao. Only reason why I didn't drop it was my respect to Tiga, but now looking back, it's whatever: Ultraman Blazar made up for it
Blazar was such a good season I still can't believe it got made at all. Skard was one of the most, if not the best, organically written defence teams in the franchise, even more than crew GUYS. It's a shame that they didn't really get true solo kills like STORAGE, GUTS or GUYS, although their support and tag-team kills with Blazar were outstanding.
It here! So exited to see u talk about Tiga 😁
My first exposure to Tiga was the 4Kids dub, and I really wish it would get a DVD release. If Fighting Foodons can get an English DVD release, I don't see why the same can't be done here!
Seriously, lots of 4kids dubs of other shows were rereleased, why not the Tiga dub.
Hello otaking
Same, Ultraman Tiga on FoxBox/4Kids was one of the first things I saw involving Kaiju. Its theme song is underrated.
@@John_winston Hello
@@otaking3582 hey ever watch this cool anime called legend of black heaven?
Hey man my only exposure to Tiga was the Fox Kids show, and I loved it! ESPECIALLY the cheesy theme song:
Larger then life!
Looking for a hero,
Looking for a man that's got the right stuff,
Looking for a hero,
When Super just not enough (love the dig at DC's superhero)
Ultraaaa Maaaan
(Tiga)
Ultraaaa Maaaan
That's some good stuff right there. Don't remember much of the show though lol
I wish the dub wasn't lost media
I was 7 Years Old when Tiga used to broadcast in India , My FAVIOURATE EPISODE WAS TIGA VS EVIL TIGA , MAN THAT FEELS 🔥🔥🔥
Great vid, love your retrospectives. Will you ever plan to talk more about vampires? Maybe some obscure vampire flick you've run into?
Little Drac fact, running water acts like a barrier to "unholy" forces as it washes away bacteria and litte vermin, like mosquitoes. Some also say it is because Christ was baptized in a river acting like barriers akin to a vamp needing a invitation to a home. That superstition from simply "don't talk to strangers" formed into the collective consciousness of vamp lore because back then everything kinda blended in to each other.
the way I've heard it, the other two statues with Tiga were meant to explain where his form changing powers come from, in that he would've absorbed their powers before they were destroyed and that's where Power Type and Sky Type come from. But it was dropped and the two statues (based on concept designs for Tiga) were just remnants of an older script. Also I have my own headcanon names for them based on that idea, Langit and Kuasa, I leave it to you to decide which is which.
Ultraman Tiga is still my favorite Ultraman and was the first Ultraman series I watched. I had to watch it in pieces per episode on Dailymotion back in 2012
the 10 minute transformation slander is unforgivable, Goru.
great video nonetheless!!!
Three of the reasons why Ultraman Tiga is so beloved:
1) It's not afraid of going more experimental in themes or tones or touching upon more nuanced and mature topics (government surveillance or pollution for example) but still keep its tone fairly consistent, which makes it also enjoyable for parents watching the series.
2) The monster and Ultraman suit design definitely holds up, which helps that the fight scene is fairly good
You know one of my favorite monsters from ultraman tiga is basically geozark, golza, Melba, gatanozoa, goldras, silvergon, gagi, yanakargy, and taraban which Taraban is my favorite tiga monster ever because it’s a literally honking rainbow shelled space snail
"Far higher" is my favorite episode. The whole snow white sequence is my favorite
Tiga is okay. Though it never exactly lived up to the hype for me (out of the Heisei trinity I prefer Gaia more).
Tiga definitely walked so Gaia could run. But yeah, I also think Gaia is the superior one from TDG trinity.
I grew up with Power Rangers and Godzilla and whatnot, but I only ever got to see a couple of episodes of Tiga on Fox Kids during its original airing. Some decades later I got into Kamen Rider in college and I'm going to be taking my first steps into Ultraman soon via Tiga. The proper Tiga this time.
The CGI of this period is oddly nostalgic to me. I know it has aged poorly but it's like the CGI I saw as a kid and was like 'whoa that's so slick!' Watching Cosmos aright now and they still have the stiff goofy CGI Ultraman but I don't mind it.
I won’t lie, the 4Kids dub was my introduction to Tiga, and it’s how I was introduced to the Ultra series as a kid.
While I prefer the Japanese version now, I can’t deny that crappy dub holds some nostalgia for me for introducing me to the franchise and for that I have to thank 4Kids.
While Daigo isn't particularly interesting, I think it works to the benefit of the character. It shows the audience that you don't need to be special to become Ultraman. So long as you try to do good, anyone can become Ultraman, or rather, anyone can become Light as seen with the show's climax and the film "Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light." (this is also why I feel Trigger really shat the bed)
2:37 my personal headcanon/theory for the other two giants that they were possibly Dyna and Gaia. I know that doesn't quite make sense but like said this my personal headcanon/theory.
The final movie where he fought the 3 evil ultraman was a banger imo. I rly like the land of light type of deal they had too.
More of these, please.
I still consider Golza round 2 to be one of the quintessential early heisei masterpiece episodes, everything about it was simply incredible, especially the pacing. It was like a mini-blockbuster through and through, not a second of film wasted.
On the aliens/seijin of Tiga, I found that Tiga has by far some of the best alien invasion episodes in it's run, almost every single invasion attempt was fantastic. Especially the electric CO2 eating goop alien, that was a hell of an enemy.
Blunova new video on Tiga covers this!
My first Ultraman!
I can't wait for Gaia and Cosmos
20:40 They freaking predicted The Last Of Us.
series was my childhood..
It's just funny seeing ultraman tia in human form
Also would you consider doing a Dyna and Gaia retrospective one day? Those 2 were my childhood heisei ultras.
Tiga's a great show, though I think Mebius is my favorite show of the Heisei era shows
15:30 - Sorry, M8, but "Dreamin' " is straight fire.
Ultraman Trigger huh? I genuinely forgot about this but man why you gotta remind me of it
Tiga is my Favourite tbh. It one of the best. Like I got 3 show, now 4 with Blazar in number 1 spot. They all great in their own way.
Tiga really emphasize that we not alone. We need to keep our world clean and safe. We need to help each other and I love how everyone in TPC is not a prick who dont care about other. They will try to avoid as many casualties as possible. They feel like actual human. Yes there this one guy who look like a prick, but I see him more of discipline enforcer who goes by the rules with heart. He is tpc director friend.
Tiga also make sure the teamwork exist in every episode. No matter how it play out. By teamwork i mean stuff other people do actually working. Physically or mentally. Like imagine your girlfriend is ChatGPT trolling. I might have trust issue after that. But they got good friend who back each other up. Daigo is also not your perfect protagonist. Getting kidnapped by witch is one of them. Like bro chase grandma and lost in a pumpkin before waking up in a cylinder. Well of course he dont do much mistake, all of them dont. We are watching world most elite group member working. Most of the time when they make mistake, it usually because how bad it is. Like that one time where horii accidently let an alien hack TPC system. No one can blame him for that.
The last one is it tackle the emotion perfectly. It can either be genuinely sad like that flute guy who bait Tiga into killing him or Maya Cruz episode. If they want you to feel hopeless, you will. If they feel like you need to be happy, they will do their best. the comic relief is balanced. They dont overdo it.
Anyway, my fav is Mebius,Tiga,Dyna and Blazar. Tiga, Dyna and Blazar for sci-fi part and Mebius for motivation
I might check this show out after I finish Orb
Jesus. They removed every single trace of "Take Me Higher"? Even in the battle scenes? I'm glad I never got Mill's release and still have my 4Kids/Funimation DVDs and a Blu-ray bootleg with English subtitles.
The lost media of the 4kids Tiga dub hopefully is mentioned
You know there Ultraman tiga on CZcams you know
Next is Nexus please
actually i am wondering why tiga's physique changes hehe. that is my only issue when i was watching it when it aired in our country. in the 1st episodes he was slim but on the ending part he got bigger
22:00 a reminder that keigo technically was beating the shit out of a dog, a puppy. When i was a kid i think that started a spark inme of dark humor 'cause i fucking laughted how my brother didn't realized that and he was 15 years older than me
Hey Gorudan (if you ever see this comment), do you plan on saying your views of Ultraman Z sometime in the future?
I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard good things.
I had to come back and comment this. But I believe you said that you weren't sure if it was pure nostalgia that made you think "take me higher" was leagues better then the replacement theme? Well I haven't seen a single episode of any Ultraman (I am nostalgia free) and I've been listening to "take me higher" on repeat for the last week it's so dang good. Im actively upset it's not on Spotify. I'm thinking of watching Tiga first even though youve made other ultra series' sound better if I can only find somewhere to watch that still has "take me higher"
You where right, it's better
Could you make an episode recommendation video?
Oh my god, I recently watched the Vintage Henshin video! The rights thing is full on BS
Question, did they remove absolutely everything with Take Me Higher leitmotif in the set you have? Like the sombre sad music for example.
Even the leitmotif in the tracks that used it.
Will Tiga Baby, Take Me Higher be mentioned? Nah!
Well I know New Generation Ultras have their bad habits but I still enjoy them. Z especially along with Otb and Geed. R/B and Trigger suck.
I still have only watched ace and below so once i finish off with 80, do i watch tiga next?
Honestly I find Awaken! Ultraman Tiga to be just as equal as Take Me Higher
And funnily enough my Tiga figure came in the day this went up on here
Say what you will about the FoxBox/4kids dub, but it's mere creation may be the reason for Ultraman being known outside of Japan at all.
which episode that features the red alien and blue alien?
one day Evil Tiga will surely to gettig in on S.H Figuarts treatment
actually nevermind i have already predict of Evil Tiga getting a Figuarts
i like ultraman tiga chinese opening
I see many refs in your edits alone that pays homage in a way to the old that was worked into this gem(knowlingly of unbeknownsly as you might have percieved) as with Mebius years later. Like you said I also didnt like the degital effect in this show and from then as standardized.. Felt like a old badger then and still feel like that for saying that but glad im not the only one that thought that way lol!
Lol, ultraman tiga is big for indonesian and malaysian just because his name means three in indo/malay which is appropriate for his 3 forms
Btw i think tiga is the chad of ultraman, when he was dark tiga (not evil tiga) he got camearra as love interest and then he met yuzare (who also plays iruma) a human woman is the reason he become being of light and now as daigo he got rena, tiga can't keep it in his pants :3
Do you think you'll go insane making the Trigger video
From your tone when you mention them, I’m guessing you don’t like the new generation shows?
I didn't like Ginga, R/B or Trigger, but I'm okay with the rest of them.
Ultraman Gaia & 80 please.
(10:00) no, no we can not
Fox kids only showed 6 episodes after that nothing more
23 dub episodes and recently someone who worked on it has the whole thing still.
Ultraman R/B is one of my least favorites installments of the whole Ultra Franchise.....
The Foxbox dub was horrible. I reall liked Tiga overall.
I was introduced to Tiga via fox box, eventually I watched the uncut Spanish dub
The English dub of the intro of ultraman tiga is actually better than the original also it's has a great musical score and it's filmed on a 4k camera
Mebius sxxxks
Mebius snacks? I sure hope he does, it's important to stay fed.
That means he takes place in 2017
Blame Johnny for the music
