Orpheus vs. the Sirens: Ka's Mythological Masterpiece

  • Ka is one of the best rappers alive and Orpheus Vs the Sirens might be his best work yet. What he and Animoss were able to create here is the perfect blend of hip hop and Greek Mythology, 2 things that seem to be completely different, yet Ka finds parallels where no one else could.

This is such a worthless thing to say nowadays because of how many times people say this, but you're right. At the very least, this is an absolutely flawless hip hop album. Not a single blemish on this album. I think it's safe to say that this is one of the best pieces of music ever. A masterpiece

This is for sure one of my favorite albums of all time. I consider this type of lyricism to be perfect. The consistency in the album regarding the constant story-telling metaphors tied like glue to the concept of the album is truly remarkable. Weaving the everyday struggles of a modern world / black NYC citizen combined with greek mythology and existential questions, are what makes the production choice and the overall theme truly unique and I have never seen an album execute an idea like this with such cohesion. It feels like every word he utters is a double or triple entendre and the punchlines are not the typical "in your face" punch lines but instead a more sophisticated statement and observation of the world which Ka himself has seen or characters in history has seen. Timeless project. I am not sure if I can get any more impressed from a lyrical and conceptual standpoint period, than when I heard this album the first couple of times.

I dont have word to express what I felt the first time I listened this album.... Suprised, first, by Ka. A great rapper with a complex-poetry lyrics... His tone and his flow are both remarquable. But, as a producer, I was shocked about Animo$$ productions !!! Damn, its so smooth and samples (I could find most of them btw) are litterally gold. For me, the LA based producer did a superrelevant work (and still does). And the mythological aspect gives another dimension to this "chef d'oeuvre". Thanks for this review Def Goldbloom !!! Much appreciated !!! Luv and respect from france

I have had some tough critique on some of your video's. But this one is so very well done, including the video you picked.
I have listened to quiet a few Ka tracks in these last years. But indeed I always just let myself flow in the music, the sounds and never truly focus on his words, which is not a bad thing. It's layered with his calming voice intertwining with the scenic beats/loops. And sometimes I get a few piercing sentences that overrule the sounds and enter my cognition. Thank you for adding some context, this was an addition, and not taking much away from the mystery that I love.

KA is one of my all time favorites, so I was hoping you'd make a video on him! He's easily one of the best lyricists in the game and his choice of minimal production with no drums helps provide an atmosphere I only hear from KA.
Now as for another all time favorite, I'm really hoping you make a video on Roc Marciano. You've got videos on Stove God Cooks, Griselda, Mach Hommy, and even KA. A video focusing on Roc Marciano's career would be dope, because of the influence he's had on underground Hip-Hop.
