      Because white people were never oppressed as a race because of their whiteness. It’s like saying “all lives matter” in response to BLM - it completely undermines the whole point of trying to raise up a minority group by pretending that equality already exists when it so clearly doesn’t.

    I would actually love to know more of **African** history. Like how the Bantus enslaved Pygymies or King Ghezo of Dahomey.

      @@ghostoftanelorn9928 it's not really that simple, Romans aren't vilified for having slaves, neither are pretty much every other nations other than Britain until the trans Atlantic slave trade. Although it's worrying you use "vilified" as if the horrors of the middle passage, cases such as the zong massacre, the stories of Americans turning to canibalism and eating slaves...surely it's RIGHT to "vilify" these acts 💀 regardless, nobody is claiming Africans didn't have involvement in slavery, many nations did, the issue is the brutality (but of course from a modern perspective all slavery is bad)

      @@ob8088 - yeah, I do dislike it. I really hate the virtue signalling and the race grifters it brings out. Speaking objectively I don’t mind studying some black history as part of the curriculum. It’s interesting and there are black people in this country, but despise the victim narrative it’s given. Most of all though I genuinely hate the intersectional nature it’s given. This philosophy leads to Critical Race Theory. That’s happened in the US and led to the reintroduction of segregation. Segregation! Anything that leads to the division of people has to be bad. ‘Black’ history month? How about just history month?

    There was more Nobel Laureates for science from Scotland last week than there has
    been from the the whole of Africa since it's inception. This is why they need a black
    history month.

      @@tojenrazer1129 So you’re German? That’s where both the Angle and the Saxon tribes came from. The true British natives were the Celts and the Picts, of which the Welsh, Irish and Scottish can actually trace their lineage back to the most.

      I think African American's/people of other ethnicities etc are being set up by virtue signaler's which will only result in the teacher's pet effect in the long run...these political groups like B history month and BLM serve nothing more than an example of segregation and fuelling unnecessary fires/weaponizing the past causing disunity among regular folks.

    Interesting how there is no talk about Arab colonies in East Africa during Black History Month. No mention at all about the Omani Empire, which controlled the entire Swahili Coast, and exploited its colonies through the enslavement of Black Africans.

      because black history month was started to promote and bring light to the achievements of black historical figures. nobody talks about the omani empire and their alliances with great britain, because the focus is on positive history. Black history month should be more than the struggle for freedom or slavery otherwise they'd just stream an a level history lesson once a year

      @@warrenthornton7582 that was an answer to your question. the current curriculum IS exclusively white British past and achievements, hence the need for black history month. I'm happy with "white history" but not by itself, hence why I'm ok with black history because there isn't that teaching in the curriculum as is. the ideal is no black history month and better education as apart of the normal curriculum. ":)"

    I do not know anything about black British. I was on Twitter looking for information. The majority of the information that is shared is about black Americans.I’m not sure why our history is being shared. It should be about black British. I wish I could of learned something about your history.

      No it wouldn’t because history is written by those in power- the white colonizers. I agree that black history should be considered a part of British history but the fact that people are so uneducated on black history shows that it has failed to be adequately integrated into British history. Plus the history of Black Britain is very different from the history of white Britain.

      @@roisinbrady8392 at the very least, schools need to start showing the British Empire in all it’s greatness and ugliness - the Empire did good things but did just as many if not more atrocities and I feel schools definitely just give it a passing remark. And it’s not to be used as a tool to feel ashamed or feel anti-British, it should be used as a tool to show what can happen when a few control a lot and what not to do with so much power, much like how we teach Nazi history

      @@AmazinglyAwkward I completely agree! Britain has left the more shameful parts of its history swept under the rug for too long. and of course education should never be used as a means of directing hate to any group, however, in order to fully come to terms with our past, that may included addressing issues/events that bring up feelings of shame/astonishment- as it should! Anyways, this is something which should be considered with history in general. Black history month specifically is more in dedication to the many achievements of the black community in spite of whatever challenges past and present black figures may have faced. It's meant to be a time of celebration- which in itself is a powerful act we can take in resistance towards racism.

But even if that were the perspective you were looking at, how would that only be from 1950? Are you just ignoring slavery and everything else that came before mass immigration?

    What I would love to see being told on black history month is the struggles of the Africans in Africa who are still fighting white supremacy and when they do they are labelled’Dictators’.We have freedom fighters that fought and still fighting to end white domination in Africa,in terms of control of economy,land,resources as well as politics.Do people know how much of resources white people own Africa…The hotels people sleep in,the holiday resorts,the food markets,the factories,industries,etc…A black revolutionary voices their opinion,they get assassinated or labelled as dictator.We need to look at our background.Black people everywhere are just subjected to inferiority.WE NEED TO UNITE AS BLACK PEOPLE as they like to call us!

    Black History Month should be known as Human History Month. There are other ethnic groups of humans out there besides the blacks. Human History Month should be about humans of ALL ethnic groups and not just one specific ethnic group. Same goes for Hispanic History Month. Black History Month and Hispanic History Month should be mixed in with Human History Month, formerly known as Black History Month.
