The treaty of Trianon really is as hated as that poll makes it out, if not more, in Hungary. Mention it to a Hungarian and they'll start a full on hissy fit, and that thing was over a hundred years ago and their neighbors are also part of the EU these days so even if it was incredibly unfair back then, this isn't back then. This is now, and now it really doesn't matter other than tramsylvania. Also no, they didn't keep the Hungarian majority areas, they kept whatever areas framce felt like letting them keep. The reason they went to war with their neighbors so many times and also agreed to join the germans in ww2 is specifically because on every side they were surrounded by land which was majority hungarians but not in Hungary.

So Hungary lost land that was majoritly hungarian because said land was strategically important to France for Romania and Czechoslovakia to be more powerful. Was this fair? No.

As an amateur Historian myself (I have a degree in History, but don't work as an Historian) I have always found it amazing/interesting on how the borders on maps change depending on the outcomes of wars. I'm about to be 50 here in less than a week, therefore I lived thru the latter third of the Cold War (1945 to 1991...46 years). I was born I 1973, and was 18 when the Soviet Union fell. Those Iron Curtain/Warsaw Pact days are still pretty fresh in my memory. But when it all collapsed, I remember quite well how much turmoil there was in those Eastern Block countries and the former Soviet Block countries (the Stans, mostly). Nobody really knew where all the new national boundaries would be drawn. I just recall that as a kid who always had a globe in my bedroom thinking, "Well shit...this old 80s Globe is no longer accurate. Gonna have to get a new one once everything is settled." Of course this is several years before the Internet, and nearly 20 years before Google Maps, so our old Analog versions were still all we had. But anyway, when Yugoslavia broke up into Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia, that was kind of a sock to the system because you had all these different ethnic groups living under the same country held together only by the Communist government in Belgrade, I think it was, or was it Sarajevo, I can't remember.

A correction on Turkey: the Entente wanted to carve it up and create a rump state out of Anatolia, gifting the region around Constantinople to Greece and Kurdistan and other Asian areas to Britain and France. The reason why Turkey is the shape it is today is because Ataturk fought back against the occupiers, but relinquished claims on a lot of older Ottoman territories because he correctly assessed that the reason why the Ottomans grew so weak was that they had to support their Asian and African colonies, so he stopped pushing further than the more defensible regions of Anatolia.

Andorra is technically ruled by the clergy in Spain and the French president. France and Spain also flip flop an island every 6 months. So half the time they do actually own a part that's a part of a neighbouring country for the rest of the time.
France also has Monaco, and Italy has the Vatican and San Marino, in all three cases territorial defense is realistically provided by the bigger country, making them more like protectorates.
Austria, Germany and, Switzerland share Dominion over lake Constance, so there is area that belongs to another country, but it's technically also their own.
Germany does the same with the Mosel, which is shared with Luxembourg.
(Like for real, there is absolutely no sentiment that all German speaking areas should be part of one country. That never happened between Germany and Austria... never. XD)
The Polish probably want Kaliningrad, to which I would say, fair.

That's not true. Danzig was an important part of the Hanseatic league. The region belonged to Brandenburg until around the 15th century. It then fell to Poland for 300 years, but the city kept most of it's independence like the city states of Hamburg and Bremen in Germany. Another region that is seen as historic German is Silesia. It was settled by Germanic tribes and was part of the Holy Roman Empire. Breslau/Wroclaw had one of the most influential universities in the nineteenth century, and was a big part of the founding history of the German fraternities.

@@imperialinquisition6006 France existed it had a throne /title / vassals. But Actually when english kings invaded Gascony it was not to conquer it under the English crown but as their claims to be kings of France. Hence it was a civil war and those terriotories were never english as the english king saw himself king of france

As a Norwegian I'm still holding a grudge against the Danish for stealing our lands during the Kalmar Union. When Norway left that Union Denmark decided to keep Greenland, Iceland and the Faraoe Island which had belonged to Norway before the Union. And also, the danish King gave away other Norwegian territories in Shetland and Orkney. Quite a bit of land that could have belonged Norway. Shetland and Orkey might have been lost at some point anyways but Greenland and Faraoe Island would today be under Norway, and not Denmark (seeing as Iceland has become independent).

Greenland should be a U.S. territory to be honest. The Danes holding onto it when the U.S. offered them cash on two separate occasions makes no sense to me.

In these days when Asia is growing in military and economy, american days as the global super power are coming to an end, the dollar is getting weaker and weaker
At least greenland can give alot of resources that can help americans survive the upcoming fall
And help the barbarians living in Greenland and help give them a better life instead of the grass huts they live in now and call houses...

I agree with your rant in minute 13 - one of the great tragedies in history is that Henry V died before he could complete the conquest of France.

Really depends on the phrasing, people close to the borders might have a hard time with the abitrary national divides of "Frisia" not really caring if all of it is Dutch or German but noticing it's more culturally connected to each other than the average of the nations it straddles.
Elsass Loren and Saarland are usually in the same country (be that Germany or France) but haven't been since the popular vote in Saarland.
Austria could have been the leading force in a HREoGN if Prussia wasn't included, Bavaria wasn't sure about joining then either.

@@conmereth it's featured in history class and the 1848 revolutionaries were much less frowned upon than political movements following them
The German lyrics to oder to Joy (the European anthem is only instrumental BTW) were meant to that goal as much as the currently skipped stancers of the German anthem.
Naive optimism, fraternal support and an open invitation (like trough the Irish republican constitution, not associated activities) are fine, agitating towards conquest is very bad.
