Thanks for posting! I am the son of an Apollo era engineer and I volunteer at Space Center Houston. It's always fun to see what seems normal to me through the eyes of others.
I'm from Houston, used to go here all the time. Now that I'm in California realize how much the space industry means to us Houstonians and what man is capable of accomplishing.
That's what makes me so interested in space travel, I think. It showcases the best of what we can accomplish if we just work together toward a common goal. Too bad the US only spends around $17B a year on NASA vs *$600B* on its military....! My maths is awful but I think that's somewhere around 2.8%..........
Great job Justin! You made it fun, and I think the kids really enjoyed it! :-) I liked the projection mapping; that's the kind of stuff I create for my real job ;-) So maybe they'll ask me to come make something at the Space Center one day!!
Thank you for making this video. i was at the center last week and it rained so heavily that the tram tour was cancelled. You video at least partly makes up for the disappointment by showing most of what I missed.
The Saturn V was unprotected and out in the elements when I visited decades ago, the exposure was really beginning to take it's toll on the Saturn V. The original Mission Control was still as it was during the Apollo Program also. The part of your video with the Saturn V was very special and emotional with your comments along with the audio effects .....It actually had me in goose-bumps. That era of space flight was very profound to myself. Thanks so much.
i absolutely love your videos. Wonderful content! I live north of Houston and have made many visits to Soace Center! I am so glad you wete impressed with it! if I had known you were in the area, I would have given you a personal tour of our great city..maybe next time! keep up the great vlogs..
LOVE Your Video! Before you said it I was like this guy is like ME Running around excited like a kid in a candy store! The fact that some ppl dont live that way is tragic🤣
The carrier aircraft is a Boeing 747 -100 with Pratt and Whitney JT9D engines. "905" was purchased from American Airlines and was used for the Shuttle drop tests in 1977 as well as being used for ferrying Orbiters about over the lifetime of the Shuttle programme. "Independence" is indeed a replica Orbiter. There never was a real Shuttle called Independence. However, she is fitted with various "real" bits and pieces that came from the decommissioned fleet of real Shuttles. I visited the JSC back in 1981 when all the Shuttle equipment was pretty much brand new. What are now museum exhibits were actually originally training simulators and other training aids. All the real stuff was down at Cape Canaveral or Edwards Air Force Base. In 1981 the Saturn V was outside - so it was looking a bit faded. Looks a lot better now. It "only fits" because they built the hanger around it. The SLS will eventually be BIGGER and more powerful than the Saturn V. However, the initial Block I version will be slightly less powerful. SLS is effectively designed to replicate what the Saturn V could do - lift 100 tons into earth orbit or send 30 tons to the moon or beyond. I must do a return visit some day. The place is certainly a lot more "visitor orientated" than it was in 1981. Great video.
FYI - The building was built later after the Saturn V was on display and was built because of the damage being caused by exposure to the weather. This is the reason the building fits just perfect and not the other way around.
They actually didn't put the Saturn V in that building it used to be sitting outside but to preserve it better they built the building around it. I live in Houston and go there with my grandparents almost every month or year and I love it every time I go
The tram tours were the ones I showed on the video and they're included with the price of entry. IIRC there are two separate tour routes but they both take the same direction out and both stop off at the Saturn V building on the way back, the only difference is one goes to the building where they do a lot of research/training and one goes to the building that contains a space shuttle and control centre mockup previously used for training (I think). You can do both though, if you want to. I did one as soon as I arrived and one just before closing time, because I was there for an entire day and had plenty of time.
John Trow you're welcome! Yeah I really enjoyed it, being a pretty big space buff; it's probably the next best thing to the Kennedy Space Center! :-) one day.....
Great video tour I must say, well done!! I hope to go there later this year! How long did it take to complete all the things you went through in the space center, 2 hours, 4 hours, 6? Want to make sure I provide enough time to see all you achieved :-)
ULTRA_SD70ace productions Productions You are correct. Enterprise (the test shuttle), Challenger, Discovery, Endeavor, Aquarius, and Columbia are the real shuttles. Independence is a 1/1 scale model. You aren't allowed to go inside a real shuttle.
That one is a complete mock-up fake shuttle jet. There was no independence. "A Columbian Enterprise to Endeavor for the Discovery of Atlantis, and all Challengers be destroyed." I think that was said by Francis Bacon (Shakespeare) in an occult secret book, and how they named the six jets.
I'm from Minnesota and always wanted to visit Huston space center. Is it worth travelling all the way to taxes to see it? This video makes it seems like it is worth it... But for some reason I do feel a bit hesitant. What do you guys think?
I had a really great day there; I've since visited the Kennedy Space Center as well and I'd say this place is almost as good as that, so definitely worth a visit.
Nice video. I certainly hope that drone footage is not yours though. I interned at NASA last Fall and drone flights in JSC as well as the Space Center Houston site are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. I mean, if you didn't get caught, that's cool. The video is nice BTW
Thanks! Yeah they were my videos; I actually launched from outside my motel as I assumed the Johnson security would be all over it, but AFAIC anywhere that's not listed as a no-fly is fair game :-) Obviously if I'd been asked to stop I would've.
I stayed at a motel nearby and the girl at the front desk sold me it. I figure some local hotels get a discount. Pretty good deal! Can't remember how much it is usually but I think +$20.
It's so weird to see someone on youtube walk down the same streets that I see on my commute every day haha
Thanks for posting! I am the son of an Apollo era engineer and I volunteer at Space Center Houston. It's always fun to see what seems normal to me through the eyes of others.
I seriously missed all of this when I went there. I was with a bored child, so only saw the main building. So thanks for posting.
What? "Bored" should not be in anyones vocabulary while they're visiting!
I'm from Houston, used to go here all the time. Now that I'm in California realize how much the space industry means to us Houstonians and what man is capable of accomplishing.

Thanks James, glad I was able to communicate some of the emotions and feelings I had when seeing this for the first time.
@@peanutismint Thanks again, I've always felt the same way myself.

I like it last time we go see NASA at Houston
Yey!! Well done great video.
I was there exactly two months before the day of your video, August 19th 2016 ! Such a unique experience to see all these!!! I've really enjoyed it!!!
The video and sound are great!

Wow, I had no idea! Just thought it was another case of NASA's pin-point accuracy!
just went there today for a field trip
They actually didn't put the Saturn V in that building it used to be sitting outside but to preserve it better they built the building around it. I live in Houston and go there with my grandparents almost every month or year and I love it every time I go
Cool! That makes more sense.
It is amazing
I went there and Saturn v was huge but it was really fun
That fit of the Saturn V into the hanger is NASA engineering at it's best.
Haha incredible. I'm just glad they didn't mix up cm and inches again....
I Think the rocket was there first and then they built the hangar around it. Look at old pictures. The rocket used to be in open air.
Chris Bau yeah
What is the tram tour? Is it different from the tour you have taken? If so, what is the cost of tram tour? What tour did you take?
The tram tours were the ones I showed on the video and they're included with the price of entry. I LOVE your video's & I'am reg. born in Fort Worth Texas in 68. Have you been to San Antonio TX?? Its a beautiful city
Thanks! No I haven't been to San Antonio yet but would love to go. That's the one with the canals right???
They built the building around the apollo. I remember it use to be exposed to the elements
cannot believe i remember everything even though i visited it two years ago
Korban Candee I visited it like a few days ago
@@andrew_c71011 congrats, i hope you had lots of fun :)
lol I just went on a field trip there today.it was fun. :)
Well, your new gimbal set-up works well, but now your frame rate can't keep up. Notice how you get that Star Trek "Warp-Drive" effect !
Thanks! The gimbal unfortunately self-destructed about a year later....!! So that's the end of that! :-)
I live in huntsville wich is cool too Cuz that's where the development and reaserch and building takes place. I've never been to Houston though.
Nice! Is the space center there any good?
Peanut Turner yes its really good. Thats where space camp is.
You live in Huntsville and never been to Houston?!?!
The most powerful machine ever created
i was wondering if it was worth going to the space center thank you it looks epic.thanks
John Trow you're welcome! Yeah I really enjoyed it, being a pretty big space buff; it's probably the next best thing to the Kennedy Space Center! :-) one day.....
It's illegal to have fly a drone on private property and there are no go pro sticks allowed in the building
That's ok; I don't own a 'go pro stick'. Thanks!
Great video tour I must say, well done!! I hope to go there later this year! How long did it take to complete all the things you went through in the space center, 2 hours, 4 hours, 6? Want to make sure I provide enough time to see all you achieved :-)
Thanks! I think I probably did it all in about 6hrs; I think one day is plenty but I'd try to go opening til closing times to make the most of it.
Love your content
Thanks! There's more to come! :-)
BTW there is no space shuttle independence

Those rooket mo-ers ah insane. 😃
im gonna visit this soon
We actually have a lot in common
Do you go through the astronaut training programe in detail
I can't quite recall but I bet there is a lot of info on training there because the Johnson Space Center is where the Astronaut Corps are based.
I'm from Minnesota and always wanted to visit Huston space center. Is it worth travelling all the way to taxes to see it? This video makes it seems like it is worth it... But for some reason I do feel a bit hesitant. What do you guys think?
