- hello!! ✨ A lot of you guys requested this, so I really hope my honest experience of A Level Chemistry in the UK can help you out! I massively struggled with Chem (particularly in Year 12!) lending to both having a bad teacher and the difficult conceptual nature of Chem itself! However, with a whole lotttt of hard work, I did somehow get that A* at the end of Year 13! I really hope my experience and A level Chemistry revision tips can help you on your own journey, whether you decide to take Chem or not. 💛 x

It’s so true. I gave up in year 10 and it took so much effort to pull it back together this year.
this is something I came up with
"Some students like me doesn't have good chemistry with Chemistry"
Top tip: read the textbook before you go to class. Even if you don't understand it, you will familiarise yourself with the terminology and when the teacher explains it it's much more likely to make sense!
I do this and i can't tell you how useful it is!!
I wish I could do this but my teacher jumps between different topics and spends half the time giving us practise questions and if you ask her what we are doing next lesson she doesn't give a straight answer 😂

I only got a C in AS chemistry, but ended up 0.5 % from an A* in A levels, and I'm now doing a Master's degree in chemistry (Just going into my 3rd year). It's all possible! With a-levels it's all about practicing questions in past papers, using chemguide and crashcourse videos. One day chemistry will just click, and it'll be so easy from then on

I totally agree with all the points you shared. Chemistry was the hardest A-level I did and went from getting straight E’s and U’s at the start to getting an A* overall for A2. You just have to put in the work.

Good teachers for chemistry are so so important!! It’s the subject I feel is essential to have a really good teacher
totally agree! my year 12 teacher was amazing but my year 13 was really not. So many people in my class went down a few grades from AS to A2.
I wish I could show my teachers this. Only 2 people managed to get a B... and they were top students applying for medicine
Faith wow that’s bad. In my class I got an A* (all down to my own hard work) and then the next highest grade was a B. Most people got lower than that

Sadly, resources weren't as good at A-Level and UnJaded Jade wasn't around when I chose to study Chemistry. I gave up on Chemistry and it gave up on me 😔 I too, had a bad teacher who wasn't supportive at all if you didn't get it first time and even my Biology teacher was unsupportive of me taking Chemistry as he said all the Chemistry I needed would be taught and linked in my Biology classes 😢😩. Still, it all worked out in the end. I studied the course I wanted at Undergrad, went on to do my Masters, took a diversion and worked in Pharmacy for a while to get NHS experience and now I am working in the labs- exactly where I wanted to be 😊 Follow your dreams kids and just know that if everything doesn't go to plan at first, it's not the end of everything, you can and will get to where you want to be, one way or another 👍

How do it go
I went from F in Physics and Chemistry and E in Maths to A for all 3 (AS Levels), I just kept studying and I changed my revision and study method, no study method found on the internet worked for me, turns out that highlighting and flash cards didn't work at all for me, the perfect method for me is just to read and do exercises, depends on how well your memory is trained, how tired you are when you are studying, there are a lot of factors influencing your ability to learn something new or to revise something. My advice is learn from your own mistakes and be the perfect version of yourselves. Good luck everyone!

I’ve just got into year 13 and ready to do my A2 chemistry. I’d honestly say the best thing about it is working at home trying to solidify content and finally understanding some of the hard stuff, it’s so satisfying and even though difficult, it’s why I enjoyed it so much in year 12. I was targeted a C, and came out with an A! ( which also counts to my overall as I’m in Wales) and that was all down to me putting all the extra effort, going over notes and flash cards again and again, and gritting my teeth and believing it is possible to tackle!! so If anyone is currently feeling down or put off because they don’t get the content straight away, it takes time and a couple of re-reads to understand it:) I loved this honest review Jade!!
I completely agree!! I always found the maths part of chemistry harder, but just doing loads of practice questions and going over things with my teacher managed to get me through it! :) if I can do it, anyone can!!!

hey jade, loved the video! chemistry was by far the hardest subject for me- I was consistently getting D's throughout my first year and even into the second year but I finally managed to pull it up to a B in the exam! congratulations on your A* that's brilliant

Honestly I think A level chemistry is impossible to teach yourself, I’m blessed to have good teachers, but if yours aren’t good PLEASE try to meet up with another teacher and get them to set up a revision club or something because if you don’t understand it you will struggle.
My school only has 2 chemistry teachers at any one time and the teacher I had for GCSE retired at the start of this year so now both of the teachers we have are awful 😭
Yesss !!! Chemistry is my absolute favourite subject! It just never fails to be interesting and satisfying.... But when you get stuff wrong it can totally rip you apart and give you the biggest doubts XX so proud of you for your very deserved A* ! Xxxxx

I got an 8-8 in the new science gcse and still broke down crying after 3 lessons of chemistry.. I'm glad it's not just me who sees it as difficult, thankyou so much for the video I thought I'd have to drop the subject.. Now I know it's just very demanding but doable 💓

yes yes yes you HAVE to ask for help! I stayed behind with my teacher every week and it made so much difference! You just have to swallow your pride and not be ashamed to admit you're struggling. Your education is worth it. Good luck!

In my GCSEs I got a B in chemistry. Im now doing it in A-level and it is SO HARD, I am always kind of everywhere with it. One test I get a B and the next I get an E and I find it so hard to know what I am getting wrong at times. I am now in year 13 and my teacher has changed and so far I feel like I am understanding things better already. Hopefully if I put in all the extra effort and keep trying I will get solid grades and hopefully a high grade for A-levels. Chemistry A-level is really hard but if you stick with it and try your hardest it will hopefully work out in the end. Good luck to everyone doing A-level chemistry, I believe in you all!!

i always enjoyed chemistry and missed my A* in GCSE by a few marks but decided to take it for a level. im now in year 13 and can say it's been the hardest subject but one of the most enjoyable, i finished year 12 with an A in chemistry and oh my god it is one of the best feelings. lots of work goes into chemistry but you get the most satisfaction out of it when it pays off:). well done on your a*!! i am beyond proud x

Thank you SO much for making this!! I started taking Chemistry around Christmas of last year, and I've been struggling to catch up ever since (my class goes through topics VERY fast...). But thanks to your message, I didn't give up like I was tempted to - and now, at the end of term 4, I've gone from a U grade to a B by tackling chemistry content head on!
Watching this just before I start chemistry a level 😄 I absolutely love chemistry and I got my grade up from a 6 to a 9 (you really inspired me to work hard). Thank you for making this video, I'm really excited to start a level (although not for the practicals- I feel the same way about them as you do) 😊
My friends did chem and biology and at the start of year 12 they were getting D's and E's and I think that's common for a lot of people! But they managed to improve by the time they got to the exams so these subjects can be hard but keep working hard guys and never give up!💯

I’m currently studying ib chemistry and I’ve gone from being at least decent to having no clue what’s going on in half my classes. Tbh, it’s pretty downing and for a few months, I’ve borderline dreaded every class - but this video has definitely given me the motivation to actually put some effort into working through everything that I’ve been struggling with

I needed this video!! I’m finding chemistry worrying already tbh but I’m making sure I do revision right from the start. Especially now that I’m part of the ‘new’ A levels where you don’t do your As exams. So recalling info from 2 years is scary. I’m now in my second year of A Level Chemistry, and honestly the first year was the hardest year of my life. Going from top of the class to the bottom was a real blow to my ego. It was extremely disheartening. But I pulled myself together I worked bloody hard for the final month of the first year and pulled myself up 3/4 grades and it was honestly one of the most rewarding things. The subject is great but it’s hard and you need to really invest your time into it.

(I know it will probably get a lot harder in the community weeks, but I guess I'm not in the routine of things yet 🙈)
I was also having some trouble deciding on whether to take chemistry but l think this has elaborated a little more on the hassles involved and the work needed to make you succeed
I can relate to this!! Just that my teacher back in year 12 used to pick on me often that I would not go to school for a day. Now, in year 13, I find his class more bearable and he somehow changed?? Also, there's an improvement for me from a U to C in AS!! I'm taking my A Levels this coming October/November (wish me luck lol) Love your videos Jade!! ❤️

All I can say is I'm up for this and I'm excited to start year 11 chem next year! I love your advice, I believe it can be done too :) I recently got a tutor to start learning the content, and chemistry really is amazing, and it's sooooo rewarding when I get things right such as the calcs. A video on English Literature would be great sometime in the future for a suggestion :)
