    TYPING EXPERIENCE:
Spent 20 hours doing these sound tests - literally had to type from 11pm to 6am to make sure there’s no ambient noise ruining the sound test - so pressing the like button would help me out a lot.
The GMMK Pro has been my main driver since it arrived at my doorstep. Each plate came with a full set of screws so there’s absolutely worry if you lose one. For the aluminum plate, it has your typical sound signature - very well balanced, not too thocky and not high pitched - keeping it stock is absolutely fine.
Issues with PC plate: although this plate is nice and soft, giving a more deepened sound, the structure itself is not good at all. The switch holes are extremely loose, where if you pulled out a keycap with the lightest amount of strength, you would also pull out the switch! Even with Kailh Box switches, which have larger housings sizes were also succumbing to these “releases”. The switches would literally wobble inside their sockets. As mentioned in my full review, the “5 pin” holes do not provide any type of support other than to let you keep the legs on the switch. It is a complete disaster for anyone who wants stability in their typing.
Brass Plate: Because it is also using the punch-in method, the switches were also not sticking well to the plate. Usually, there’s a satisfying “click” when putting the switches in to let you know it’s firmly attached. But with some spots it would just stay there, with no real grasp on the plate. Even my $20 cheap plate from Aliexpress grasps my switches hard. To know that a $60 plate that can’t do that is a disgrace and practically a waste of money. Hardness is on par with other brass plates and gives a good bottom out sound as well as giving you some nice thockiness. The brass plate is also more prone to tolerances, so spring ping will be more prominent than on PC or Alu plate.
*Extra remarks: Some Kailh Box switches had a rough time even reaching the hotswap contacts because the legs are slightly shorter than Cherry-styled switches. So sometimes it would not register and I would have to make sure the switch was in the plate so that it would read
*Regarding spacebar - my spacebar has been having troubles with the zeal stabs and crapped out when I started doing my brass sound test so I switched over completely. Both spacebars are cherry PBT profile so there should be no discrepancies to the sound.
    Setup:
    GMMK PRO
    Lubed Zeal Stabilizers
PBT Cherry Profile Discount GMK Dots
Recorded with: EV RE320 + Yamaha MG10XU mixer

I am new to keyboards so there is going to be a lot of trial and error , but such videos help a ton. I also watched couple more and there is not a single video where the PC plate sounded anywhere near decent to my ears , as with anything that comes down to *PREFERENCE* of course , so with that said , PC is just not my cup of tea. It sounds very... *cheap?* and somewhat hollow , like an old membrane board. I can tell the difference between brass and alu , but wonder if it's really worth the price difference in real use , i do like the deeper sound of the brass , just hate the yellow color that i won't see anyways and the 20$ higher price tag.
Well done video and i'd like to say thank you , much appreciated having you. You do many comparisons and all of them are extremely helpful to help us , viewers , make the right decision for ourselves.

Alright, I just got the alu plate and this sound way better. To compensate for the stiffer plate, I made the gaskets triple layered and I only have 8 screws that connect the plate to the PCB. Also to connect the top plate, I screwed it very lightly, just enough for the screw not to fall.
I like the alu plate because it does not sound muted like the PC plate, also I have no case foam or any PCB foam. Also I am using Tangerine switches which is higher pitched since the housings are UHMWPE compared to the usual Nylon/PC housings.

Hello! Im kinda new to custom keyboard, are gaterons ink black the same with the gaterons black? Because I really like them!

    • @Romsicle

Nope! Gateron Ink Black have a black stem and translucent smokey housing while Gateron Blacks just have the black stem! Ink Blacks are also smoother than regular Gateron Black.

I really thought it was just me that hated the PC plate. Wish I had watched this before I got it... Off to get brass now lol

I could use your help on this one. I have the all black ( not sure that makes a difference) Boba U4T and I cant get mine to sound that deep and punchy. I have tried everything under the sun to this board to get some sort of Thoc from it. Between removing some of the screws and adding some extra foam. The Poly plate seems to make it worse. The only thing that I havent done to the switches is lube them. Only because I thought they didnt need it. Could you tell a there was a deeper sound after lubing them?

Lubing them will definitely make the sound deeper!

I lubed them last night. Night and day difference. I didn’t think it would be this drastic but it was. Thanks for recommendation

can sb maybe help me, on my build some keys arent working and idk why, i swapped them out multiple times with switches from working keys but there was no difference.

      @Romsicle  Před 2 lety +1

Push the switches down harder. I had that issue with the PC plate with switches not registering. It's because the PCB itself can't hold onto switches very well.

I know this: I’m getting a brass and a polycarbonate plate. Those sounded the best on all the switches.

You're a true citizen, a gentleman and a scholar! - This was EXACTLY what I was looking for! I barely know any of the switches, but those I can research!
