TYPING EXPERIENCE:
Spent 20 hours doing these sound tests - literally had to type from 11pm to 6am to make sure there’s no ambient noise ruining the sound test - so pressing the like button would help me out a lot.
The GMMK Pro has been my main driver since it arrived at my doorstep. Each plate came with a full set of screws so there’s absolutely worry if you lose one. For the aluminum plate, it has your typical sound signature - very well balanced, not too thocky and not high pitched - keeping it stock is absolutely fine.
Issues with PC plate: although this plate is nice and soft, giving a more deepened sound, the structure itself is not good at all. The switch holes are extremely loose, where if you pulled out a keycap with the lightest amount of strength, you would also pull out the switch! Even with Kailh Box switches, which have larger housings sizes were also succumbing to these “releases”. The switches would literally wobble inside their sockets. As mentioned in my full review, the “5 pin” holes do not provide any type of support other than to let you keep the legs on the switch. It is a complete disaster for anyone who wants stability in their typing.
Brass Plate: Because it is also using the punch-in method, the switches were also not sticking well to the plate. Usually, there’s a satisfying “click” when putting the switches in to let you know it’s firmly attached. But with some spots it would just stay there, with no real grasp on the plate. Even my $20 cheap plate from Aliexpress grasps my switches hard. To know that a $60 plate that can’t do that is a disgrace and practically a waste of money. Hardness is on par with other brass plates and gives a good bottom out sound as well as giving you some nice thockiness. The brass plate is also more prone to tolerances, so spring ping will be more prominent than on PC or Alu plate.
*Extra remarks: Some Kailh Box switches had a rough time even reaching the hotswap contacts because the legs are slightly shorter than Cherry-styled switches. So sometimes it would not register and I would have to make sure the switch was in the plate so that it would read
*Regarding spacebar - my spacebar has been having troubles with the zeal stabs and crapped out when I started doing my brass sound test so I switched over completely. Both spacebars are cherry PBT profile so there should be no discrepancies to the sound.
Setup:
GMMK PRO
Lubed Zeal Stabilizers

Great review, Romisicle! Thanks for typing this out for people like me who might enjoy reading a review instead of watching one.
you are a legend dude. Thank you so much for this!!!! You tested most of the switches I was thinking of as well. THANK YOU.
which tactile switch setup is your favorite to type on? for feel & for sound

Mans swapped switches 48 times just to make this video. That’s true dedication right there!
yeah wtf.. this guy is insane, much appreciated.
mans swapped switches 48 times to get the same sound profile every test lmao
True
Deserves a sub just for effort
Plot twist: he has 48 GMMK Pros with the same keycaps but with different switches and plates.
Legit test! Rarely ever see tests that swap more than a few keys. Upvote this man
Probably the most comprehensive sound test out there for the gmmk pro. Well done.
I'm so glad that these sound good. After watching so many GMMK Pro builds, I started to think that they all sound bad. You however, have made me realize that it is not that bad. All these combinations sound good so thank you!
You got in some of the switches that I've been looking at purchasing for this board. This is super helpful, thank you!
man, epic work put in! You are making the switch decision much easier for many of us. Huge thanks for putting in this immense amount of work. 🙏
Thank you for putting in all the time effort to sound test all the switches! Really helps future buyers🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️
Wow, making this video must have been a real labour of love. Awesome work!
This is exactly what I was looking for thanks for all the work and effort for this video, I appreciate it a ton!
Great Video the time and dedication to showing all of these variations is amazing. I don't even have a gmmk pro yet but when I get mine finally get mine I'll be sure to watch this video a second time before I commit to buying a certain kind of switch.
This was a video I would've been too ashamed to ask anyone for yet here it is! FULL props, must've been a lot of work.
There was alot of effort put into this comparison, good job!
Echoing many of the comments on here, this video was immensely helpful. I have Gateron Ink Black V2's and Tealios V2's, trying to decide which switch to use with which plate (aluminum or PC) and this was exactly what I was looking for. Doing God's work, brother.
I keep liking the sound profile of the Alu plate the best in almost all switches, thanks for this keep up the good work!
thank you for dropping this video, ive been debating which switches i should get for my future gmmk pro build
this is one hella of a good video. It really helps me in terms of knowing the sound profile of each switches on the gmmk pro
lmao this channel is just too good. I really appriciate this.
EDIT: I just dont understand how good Gateron yellows are for the price
The glorious pandas really do sound so good on their gmmk pro ! Wow
Remember everyone! This is a GASKET-MOUNTED keyboard. The sound is supposed to more muted than your traditional tray mount keyboard(aka almost all off-the-shelf keyboards/budget customs). If you don't like how it sounds, this keyboard is definitely not for you! Gasket-mount boards are not for everyone!
cant say this enough. wish everyone can read this
to be honest the gasket mount implementation is awful so I would take it with a pinch of salt.
@@mogonlac9137 yes the stock “gasket mount” is pretty horrible, but luckily it can be fixed with about an hour of work.
@@AndrewSu180 how is it bad? I'm new to this and idk what gasket mount even means. How would it be fixed?
@@Usercehdbf its a bad gasket mount implementation because its is very stiff and does not flex like a gasket mount. it can be fixed by adding thicker gaskets and removing screws and not screwing the case all the way down. Its a tradeoff between sound and feel.
Got the Glorious Panda with the Brass Plate, looking forward to it. Thanks for this great Video
Dude, impressive comparison. Thank you for the hard work and dedication.
this is a god tier video, thank you for the time and effort you put into it. ps typing this with my gmmk pro with aluminum plate and broken in and lubed c3 kiwis. you convinced me to get the pc plate. it sounds so much better! i have some zealios v2 switches that i dont use. thinking about lubing them cause they sound amazing in your test with the pc plate
You sir, are an absolute legend for doing this! Thank you
I can appreciate the hard work that went into this video. many hours recording, splicing, editing, and compiling.. much respect. Also helped me land on the gmmk pro with the brass plate and lubed glorious pandas ^-^ Thanks friend. Really excited to get this new board. Subbed!
Whoa….the roselios are a surprise contender for me
Thanks, these extensive review videos pay off 👍
The amount of work you put into this video definitely earned a sub from me. Great stuff my dude.
Thanks for putting this together!
you sir....you are a godsend, very helpful, thank you for all the work you put into this!
Respect the dedication here!!!! Thanks for this video, subscribed and liked :)
This is the most underrated CZcamsr and deserves millions of subs
Wow, this is the best switch/plate comparison I've ever and probably will ever see.
What a legend for making such an extensive and crazy video!
This was amazing! Been using lubed Glorious Pandas for months now but tried some WS Morandi and they sound fantastic in the GMMK Pro (have the flex kit and single piece of the larger GFoam in mine, no other mods with the AL plate). The Pandas sound very much like you show lubed as well. I do like the Morandi if I can get use to linears.
insanely helpful. I really liked the zealios lubed so i just bought em :D
Love the C3 Tangerines the best with the Aluminum plate. More impressed that you did all the tests with a blank keyboard and no mistakes! Awesome!
Thank you very much for the effort. Very nice sound test.
Wow, awesome job. Thank you for making this.
This video has convinced me to stick with my milky yellows for this build. Thank you for saving me money
This videos was so helpful! thank you!
This level of effort deserve a Like and Subscribe! Thank you!
Extremely helpful, thank you so much for this
this is a lot of work you did, very methodical... I think you should also notice if you had a default configuration in terms of foam/screws/standoffs/etc... that would help people to have a complete reference point.
Really appreciate this, been wanting to see what the Boba U4 Silents sounded like with the polycarbonate plate
I can’t wait to get mine I’m going from a 50 dollar prebuilt with some red switches in it to the gmmk pro with some kat profile keycaps dur v2 stabs and gateron yellow milky top black bottom swithes I’m very excited to try it out
I just wanted to hear what the pc plate sounded like. This video is amazing !
exactly what I wanted Thank you!
Great work. Thank you very much!
My favorites are, Gateron Yellow, C3 Tangerine and Roselios :)
I have question what stabs did you use? Did you do any mod on this stabs?
Boba U4t - Is it filmed? What lub did you use?
Thanks great vid man!
This is exactly what I needed
That amount of effort put in!!!
You haven’t even seen the video...
@@fngaming1956 Not the editing itself. What I meant was the time and effort to switch out those switches and plates multiple times just for sound test
@@Aaloloha that’s true
bless you for this video truly
Damn hella effort for this video props to you, except all the switches sound muted and similar I guess we cant expect everything to be amazing from an entry level board
It's a gasket mounted keyboard. It's supposed to be muted.
Thank you for the great vid! All I wanted to know is if the brass plate is worthwhile at $50. I ended up going with stock aluminum.
Thank you so much! It's incredible
How did you make it sound so deep? Did you do any case mods? I’ve done quite a few things to my gmmk pro to make the noise deeper and it still sounds really clacks and high pitched.
Whew sounds so good man
Hi there! Any tips on helping switches fit better on the PC plate? I've been having issues with switches literally springing up out of their socket so I find that switches feel really unstable and loose as I type
Just wondering what the build for the GMMK Pro is for this vid.
Did you remove/replace any of the foams?
Did you remove the standoffs or any screw on the PCB/case? Fully tightened the screws?
Did you add extra gaskets?
What stabilizers did you use because they were amazing
I am new to keyboards so there is going to be a lot of trial and error , but such videos help a ton. I also watched couple more and there is not a single video where the PC plate sounded anywhere near decent to my ears , as with anything that comes down to *PREFERENCE* of course , so with that said , PC is just not my cup of tea. It sounds very... *cheap?* and somewhat hollow , like an old membrane board. I can tell the difference between brass and alu , but wonder if it's really worth the price difference in real use , i do like the deeper sound of the brass , just hate the yellow color that i won't see anyways and the 20$ higher price tag.
Well done video and i'd like to say thank you , much appreciated having you. You do many comparisons and all of them are extremely helpful to help us , viewers , make the right decision for ourselves.
Great video dude! Simple sequence yet very informative. I'm planning to use the GMMK Pro and Gazzew Bobagum for my next silent mech keeb build. What plate and other mods would you recommend to further dampen the sound? Thanks!
Get some KBD D60 gasket strips and replace the default ones (might make a video on it soon) - PC plate dampens the sound but I didn't get a good experience with it LOL
Gat blacks/zealios + brass = nutty AF 😊
Thanks to this video I know which switch I want for the Gmmk pro!
*Btw its the Gateron Ink Black*
To bad they don't make the V1's anymore ..
Thanks for the video.. really pushing me towards brass. But tech question… all my keys on stabs feel sticky is it my cheap keycaps or are the factory barebones stabs not that great? All the switches feel fine. Using Gateron black
i have the exact same setup, which stabs do you have installed? my spacebar is just so much louder than how yours in the video lol. just wondering if you did anything to make it not rattle or something
You are an absolute legend...
I got the black inks and alu plate for this
omg the drop holy pandas with the poly plate... THOCCCCCCC
what space bar is that?
One does not downvote a video of this quality and dedication.
Good sound on the Box Navies with polycarb.
Could you please compare some silent linear switches? Like bobagums, roselios, cherry silent, kailh box silent linear
Thanks! Super helpful video!🤩⌨️
You haven’t even seen the video yet
I feel like all switches sound the same? Or is it just me. Hoping not since my gmmk pro arrives tomorrow I'll be dissatisfied if my lubed and filmed tealip v2 don't sound great like on my id80v2 :.(
Brass imo sounds the best for novelkeys creams (fav linear, love the scratch it has) I don't think the PC one sounds bad it's just worse than the other ones imo.
I had to watch the whole video to be convinced to try out the Alu plate, I am currently using the PC plate and never even bothered with the Alu plate
Alright, I just got the alu plate and this sound way better. To compensate for the stiffer plate, I made the gaskets triple layered and I only have 8 screws that connect the plate to the PCB. Also to connect the top plate, I screwed it very lightly, just enough for the screw not to fall.
I like the alu plate because it does not sound muted like the PC plate, also I have no case foam or any PCB foam. Also I am using Tangerine switches which is higher pitched since the housings are UHMWPE compared to the usual Nylon/PC housings.
So do you have any preferences from your side by side comparisons? Any that surprised you (good or bad) and what are you top 1 or 2 or whatever?
I do prefer the brass version of all the switches. Creams definitely sounds more defined on a brass - Boba U4T and Creams would probably be my top two.
Best comparison ever
hmm after four months i type on my gmmk pro with alpaca v2 switches. Deffinetly worth. Im getting a second one with holy pandas to use at work ^^
Sub for the dedication put into this!
legend.
Looks like im gonna get a GMMK PRO PC PLATE with Kaihl Clickies!
What are the stabs that you use
Man u just got a sub from your attempts
too good i can't help but sub. wish alpacas v2 was included though
Alpacas are just JWKs. The tangerines are your best reference.
I also noticed about the RGB lights
Alum - barely visible
Brass - completely visible and brighter?
PC - visible but the north face of num keys arent
link/name for the keycaps?
Which keycaps are those?
Hello! Im kinda new to custom keyboard, are gaterons ink black the same with the gaterons black? Because I really like them!
Nope! Gateron Ink Black have a black stem and translucent smokey housing while Gateron Blacks just have the black stem! Ink Blacks are also smoother than regular Gateron Black.
I really thought it was just me that hated the PC plate. Wish I had watched this before I got it... Off to get brass now lol
I could use your help on this one. I have the all black ( not sure that makes a difference) Boba U4T and I cant get mine to sound that deep and punchy. I have tried everything under the sun to this board to get some sort of Thoc from it. Between removing some of the screws and adding some extra foam. The Poly plate seems to make it worse. The only thing that I havent done to the switches is lube them. Only because I thought they didnt need it. Could you tell a there was a deeper sound after lubing them?
Lubing them will definitely make the sound deeper!
I lubed them last night. Night and day difference. I didn’t think it would be this drastic but it was. Thanks for recommendation
Fast 100% accuracy no fonts? GOAT
keycap set?
can sb maybe help me, on my build some keys arent working and idk why, i swapped them out multiple times with switches from working keys but there was no difference.
Push the switches down harder. I had that issue with the PC plate with switches not registering. It's because the PCB itself can't hold onto switches very well.
@@Romsicle ty, now its working 😊
Almost any switch on this keyboard sounds very good
Also the key caps are butiful
you made me subs
I know this: I’m getting a brass and a polycarbonate plate. Those sounded the best on all the switches.
You're a true citizen, a gentleman and a scholar! - This was EXACTLY what I was looking for! I barely know any of the switches, but those I can research!
