They've been saying this since the 80s. And I don't know why you were snippy to the woman who said it was in the early 70s. It's been within my lifetime that women had to resort to back alleys or the "janes" And I'm in my early 50s. Meaning, we haven't even really had this right for that long before it was taken away again--only 50 years. Less time than public school integration And the civil rights movement. I knew because the fundamentalists have been playing the long game. Getting their judges in place, upping their propaganda, gerrymandering, getting voting rights repealed, etc. When someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time.

@@imtherealFidi I’m in my 60’s, been voting since I turned 18 and never voted for a republican. I hold Reagan responsible for starting this. And my own parents became republicans in their late 80s because of Reagan. He really appealed to the old folks. 🙄 We Democrats have been too complacent. And that’s why a bunch of old men without uteruses are able to make decisions about what women can do with their bodies. Reagan is the one that let the crazies out and closed all the mental health facilities. Thanks to him they’re all living on the streets in Los Angeles. At least it seemed that way when we lived there. I don’t know if there are any solutions anymore. But I think we are getting a lot closer to riding that handbasket to hell that my grandma talked about. It seems we just lie down and take it and let them walk all over us. Because if we try to do anything to them, they start screaming about witchhunts and claim they’re victims. Idk what to do about any of this anymore. I’m so tired of it all. my impression of medieval christianity is that it was more for political convenience than actual moral superiority as the medieval age involved the conversion of pagan europeans. i mean the essentially took pagan holidays and made them “christian”. it wasn’t until the reformation that christian’s became “holier than thou” types which was at the beginning of the renaissance and the end of the middle ages. i’m pretty sure abortion was still a commonly sought after medical procedure during medieval times.

That's a remnant of the bff relationship between historical patriarchy and religion. Women have always been portrayed as the accountable ones the tainted ribs of innocent man. The following have are the fault of women:
      1. Divorce: she didn't please her husband or honor him regardless of his failings and sins.
      2. Rape: she must have dressed "slutty" or was "asking" for it in some way.
      3. Unwed mother: Again "slutty".
      4. Abuse: Again "asking" for or instigating it.
Every since "bringing home the bacon" was instilled as man's primary responsibility all other expectations are lowered, exempted or deemed "women's" work.
Of course some will say they view women as superior or to be worshipped that's often merely a smokescreen to justify their asshole behavior. Men are constantly demanding respect yet will hypocritically treat other women in ways that would initiate violence if someone did it to a related female.
In short, men are terrified of the equality of women for it would highlight how inferior, substandard and fragile most men actually are. Keeping women subservient keeps men from having to truly evolve beyond the cave mentality.
Women like gay men because we see them as people not merely objects to exploit.

@@pearlsaphier3458 Why? Because Trump put an unqualified, religious fundamentalist on the Supreme Court. Combined with Gorsuch and Cavenaugh, that gave Republicans an overwhelming majority on a court that should be balanced. Trump promised religious leaders he'd promote their interests--so they would support him.
To be honest, I only blame Trump for being McConnell's puppet in filling the Supreme Court, and all the appellate courts. We can see from the failures, firings, and resignations of all his legal teams, that Trump knows nothing about courts. He rubber-stamped these appointments, and now half the country's rights are being taken away.
Another reason Trump is blamed for everything, is because his supporters are just as happy to blame Obama and Biden for everything. Obama even got blamed for 9/11--when Bush was president! Biden's getting blamed for gas prices set by OPEC, and Obama is still getting blamed for high medical costs--even though Trump is the one who gutted the ACA.
If you really want to talk about blame, I blame Trump for all the people we lost to covid. I blame him for his inaction, his dismissing it, and his false cures. I blame him for villainizing Dr. Fauci, and the CDC. I blame him for pushing everyone to go back to work at the height of the pandemic. I blame him for misdirecting aid to states because their governors didn't kiss his ass. I blame him for over a million dead in this country. The "religious argument" is BS anyway. Numbers 5 clearly advocates abortion (for even SUSPECTED infidelity)

      _____________________________________________
"The Test for an Unfaithful Wife
11 Then the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him 13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure-or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure- 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah[c] of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.
16 “‘The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the Lord. 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the BITTER WATER THAT BRINGS A CURSE. 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this BITTER WATER THAT BRINGS A CURSE not harm you. 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”- 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse-“may the Lord cause you to become a curse[d] among your people when he makes YOUR WOMB MISCARRY and your abdomen swell. 22 May this WATER THAT BRINGS A CURSE ENTER YOUR BODY SO THAT YOUR ABDOMEN SWELLS OR YOUR WOMB MISCARRIES."
“‘Then the woman is to say, “Amen. So be it.”
23 “‘The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water. 24 He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her. 25 The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the Lord and bring it to the altar. 26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial[e] offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water. 27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. 28 If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.
29 “‘This, then, is the law of jealousy when a woman goes astray and makes herself impure while married to her husband, 30 or when feelings of jealousy come over a man because he suspects his wife. The priest is to have her stand before the Lord and is to apply this entire law to her. 31 The husband will be innocent of any wrongdoing, but the woman will bear the consequences of her sin.’”
Notice how the woman has no say in the entire ordeal. Patriarchal nonsense.

Parents should not be able to sign off on marriage of their minor daughters to adult men. These are like arranged marriages. If you aren't old enough to vote, then you shouldn't be getting married either. Some of these marriages work, but it seems like many end up in divorce or domestic abuse. If teenagers get pregnant because they aren't taught about or have access to birth control, then they shouldn't be forced to get married. These right-wing extremists don't want their children to live in sin, but they don't care if their children and grandchildren live in poverty. The GOP wants to keep the masses poor and ignorant. But the fact that so many rights are being rescinded and democracy is in grave danger,I fear you could lose that right,we could lose that right …….and when we lose the right to be truthful,we lose ourselves!

We must make them reword abortion bans -
Instead of wording it to save the life of the mother, how about in the event of a miscarriage, fetal death or fetal failure for survival. This way doctors and hospitals won't be forced to make a woman suffer any further.

It ceases being an abortion if the developing human child has ceased all vital activity or has become TRULY non-viable. I wouldn't think that a hospital would just force a mother to sit with a dead child in them.

@@Asubatsu then you are sadly ignorant. That has actually happened in this country, especially since the idiotic bans, written by men who haven’t a clue about medicine.

@@Asubatsu It does though. Abortion is the whole removal process. There have been cases of hospitals forcing a mother to hold onto a dead fetus, and later maybe or maybe not dying from the toxins.

@@Asubatsu and yet that’s what these abortion bans are doing and what they’ve done historically. Look at the case in Ireland that resulted in changes in abortion laws (more liberal changes).

No we must REPEAL abortion bans totally. No one’s business but that person and their doctor.

If abortion and individual rights were discussed openly, we may find ourselves in responsible conversation! A World Contemporary Problems teacher in high school would come into class, take a current topic, get the students riled up and pissed off and they start discussing positive and negative positions openly in class amongst themselves. (He also taught debate.) Compromise was required. The current state of extremism has brought about fascism and dictatorship the like that have not been seen in almost 80 years. It is a disgrace. Speak you mind - the only thing required is being civil and not taking a diverse opinion personally. jmho. Your mileage may vary.
