- A brush fire burning in the Fort Steilacoom Park is forcing evacuations nearby.
The fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The fire is burning in Fort Steilacoom Park near Pierce College.

Notice a difference between the color of the burned area from this natural wildfire to the Maui fire? Here, everything is black. Green grass and green trees have burned, leaving them charred and blackened. The smoke is gray. Hmmmmmmm. . . .
I live in Seattle and wasn’t even aware of this. Ummm- too many fires going on. That Maui one is insane.
It's perplexing to see these fires and to see 2 different water sources on either side of the burning land.
I feel like there needs to be a bigger response to this! Like why arent there some base helicopters involved by now, etc? People just strolling past flames on bikes @ 15:56 ? The communication about this to lakewood residents has been almost nonexistant WTH

I got a text from a Pierce County Emergency Alert agency. But I had my notification bells off and was watching a CZcams show when my landlord knocked on my door. I live in a duplex community a stone's throw away from the college and saw the smoke and news helicopter. But if my landlord hadn't knocked on my door, I never would have known.
i'm no expert but with that lake being so close it seems like this helicopter would be more helpful if it was scooping up water and dumping it on the fire instead of just hovering and taking video

A helicopter pilot must be trained to fight fire and it takes a lot of ground control to coordinate flights otherwise you will have more problems.
There are 2 air tractors flying over my house right now I believe that they are collecting water near my local lake
Dang. I'm literally a short walk from the evacuation line. Everyone east of me has been evacuated. Usually, when it's in the 80s, 90s and above, there's an easterly wind. Thank goodness for the Puget Sound and westerlies. Makes you feel really guilty for everyone on the other side of Pierce College. I hope this is resolved quickly. 3 alarm is no joke, nor is a level 3 evacuation.

I was at space camp in the college right by there when this happened. We saw it happen while eating lunch and later had to evacuate down to the high school. It spread that through that whole area in half an hour. We had 3 trees protecting the college from the fire. Stay safe.
How is it looking now? We got an evacuation notice to but there’s been no update for a while on the fire

It's way past time to start cracking down in criminals in Washington State.
There is a lot of potential help nearby with very large McChord / Fort Lewis and National guard units. The FT Lewis' McCord area is largest city in WA with complete civil service facilities same as TAC Srsttlre have. Have own police, ambulance medical hospital and a very modern equipped series of fire departments.
National Guard units could be called up by Govenor and equipment needed readily available.

For the total of 32 mins, no firefighters, no trucks anywhere that I could see. What's up Hawaii? Is this how your government works? I lived through a blazing fire, lost my home and belongings in 2011. I know what this feels likes seeing flames coming near you homes. Something;s up in Hawaii.

Helicopters
Two helicopters are now on scene, scooping up water from Lake Louise (the one with all the docks). The other one Waughhop Lake is part of Ft. Steilacoom Park & doesn't have housing around it, but Pierce College is very close to it.

Luckily it wont go far. Wind is the biggest driver of fires getting out of control. As long as they are there with simple water hoses the fire will ne out soon.

They couldn't get their hoses further into the field. There's not much access. That's why they had the water choppers come in and put it out, thankfully.

Someone needs to look up that land lease & look at any stipulations as to if burned can u rebuild or not because we all know what happened to the residents of Maui.
This area is part of western state hospital and much of it is unmarked cemeteries. It's a park. No building on it from its history.
Next time specify which Lakewood you are referring to. We have one in California too.

That was on the other side of Interstate 5 further south, close to JBLM (Ft. Lewis). This fire is near Pierce College, right next to Waughhop Lake which is a part of Ft. Steilacoom Park. I live about a mile away down the hill from Lake Louise (that's the other lake with all the docks that you can see in this video. We are under a Level 2 evacuation notice.
The fire in the mobile homes was a week or two ago in woodbrook, which is a good 20 minute drive from the park that’s on fire now. But yes the one in woodbrook did kill two people and destroyed several mobile homes

Ignore the asshat who said that, from what ik no one got hurt. My moms friend and two of mine live right next to the park in the part that needed the evacuation the most, and their perfectly fine. My friends even went and smoked before they left. No one died to my knowledge in this fire since they contained it to the park it was started at
