I don't think that was kamikaze. It looks more like his ship was spinning out of control and it accidentally crashed into the enemy ship. If they intended to add a kamikaze pilot they probably wouldn't have used the scene where his ship got hit and started spinning. Also he would probably have a line like "For the rebellion!" or "For freedom!".
Andrei Popescu however it has been confirmed that Arvel kamikaze'd. Also, that happened to be the executor. Too awesome. Also Wedge is probably the coolest character in the original trilogy, for how much he did.
Joey Richards Perez In the expended universe maybe. From what I saw in this movie I am sure it was by accident. First of all his ship wasn't the only one that crashed into a star destroyer, also crashing into it wasn't necessary, because the executor just lost its shields so any hit would have breached its hull causing it to decompress and kill everyone on board.
Wedge was such a badass he not only survived two attacks on two separate Death Stars, he co-rekked the second one. I can forgive him for his weak dance moves.
Denis Lawson, who played Wedge, is actually a talented dancer. Around the time Empire Strikes Back came out, he was starring in the West End of London, playing the title role in the musical Pal Joey. That's the role originally played on stage by Gene Kelly.
That's why Wedge Antilles is one of my favorite Star Wars characters. He is seriously one of the most underappreciated characters from the films, and doesn't get anywhere near enough credit for being perhaps the best pilot the Rebel Alliance had at their disposal, AT LEAST on par with Luke in terms of skill in flying fighter craft. Long story short... Wedge is a total badass and deserves much more respect than he gets.
The two REAL heroes of Star Wars: 1. The rebel soldier who died to give the Death Star plans to the other soldier. 2. Arvel Crynyd who blew up the giant Star Destroyer single handedly. Honorable Mention: The Bothans who died to give us this information.
Biggs’ death is really sad.... think about if you’re buddy became a fighter pilot and you didn’t see him for years.... then you finally get to join the fight as a pilot just to have your best friend die in your first battle together.....

I seem to picture him saying /if he wasn't screaming/ "FOR FREEDOM!" or "LONG LIVE LIBERTY!" as his A-Wing crashes into the bridge of the Super Stat Destroyer.
Wedge should show up in Disney movies as the master of Poe Dameron... The only true pilot with NO FORCE to help him to survive two death starts, two star detroyer, on super destroyer, a whole lot of dogfights and one snow battle with snowspeeders...
Julio Gomez I did some research on wedge, sometime before the battle of endor he was promoted to red leader, most likely shortly after the battle of yavin
Funny thing about the guy who played Wedge was that the original actor was set to reprise his role in the later sequels but he refused because he essentially didn't see the point.

I'd like to see more of Wedge's story. The comic books had a good story on him being left behind in the evacuation of Hoth and being found by Luke later.
Too many good pilots have lost their lives in the fight against the Empire. Darklighter, Senesca, Santage, Rhysati, the names go on. But their sacrifice was not in vain. Because of the efforts of all of our Alliance personell, we bested the Empire and brought forth the New Republic to bring peace and equality for all in the Galaxy. And though the fighting shall never truly cease, its pilots like these who will keep the hope for a better future alive.
actually you know it would be fine if they even just mentioned him or there's a statue standing in the charachters memory somewhere in the film, just a cameo you know
Love the demonstration of leadership in the face of extreme adversity during the first Death Star battle. They were there to do 1 job and we're not going to waste any time or resources on anything else - even at the expense of their own lives. A worthy sacrifice and the only reason they were successful.
