Wedge's reaction to Luke's passing always got to me. He was devastated to learn his old wingmate was gone and it just made it dawn on me how many underestimate how close they were. Wedge wasn't just some guy Luke flew with from time to time, he was a friend and it was touching and heartbreaking to me to see that friendship resinated with Wedge for all those years after the Galactic Civil War.
Did that happen in the film? I can't remember that.
It would have been good to have them meet in the sequel trilogy. It would have been funny to see them chat it up.
And yet, when his stepson snap wexley gets blown to pieces in ep9 he doesn’t react at all except say some cheesy line like “ Great shooting lando”. Was weird.
@@IceSpoon No, it did not.
@@hayleydanhirschfeld4862 Not really weird at all. Wedge had literally *just* arrived with the Falcon and the rest of the Citizen's Fleet, and Snap had perished only moments before. He almost certainly did not and could not have known. I'd love to see some Canon storytelling focusing Wedge and Norra's grief over the loss of their son, but the climatic battle of the final film of the Skywalker Saga was not the place for it, especially with 99% of the audience not having any idea about the connection between the two characters. Wedge's appearance was meant to be a nod to the fans and a celebration of an iconic character (who for years had been reluctant to come back to Star Wars at all, having turned down a similar cameo in TFA). I loved it.
Wedge is the prime example of a somewhat unimportant character (at first) becoming a fan favourite in both legends and canon which is super impressive.
Regardless of the movie itself, him getting a nod in Rise of Skywalker was super satisfying and well-deserved. Rogue Squadron is legendary
I wish they’d put him the cockpit of an X-Wing checking in as Rogue Leader. That would have been great.
There were two moments in the Disney canon movies where I fanboyed my brains out. The first was the Ray Park reveal in Solo and the second was Wedge's appearance in Rise of Skywalker.
@@vindicated30.6 Rogue One hallway scene?
@@diamondman307_ Yeah that was definitely awesome too. Seeing Vader wreck house was pretty epic.
@@cm275 That would have been too fan servicey and that film has way too much of that already
Wedge is the most underrated character in Star Wars considering he’s the only person to fight against both death stars
Nien Nunb fought a Death Star and Starkiller Base.
Fun Fact: In Aftermath Wedge mentions that it was fulcrum that helped him escape the academy. At first everyone thought this was Ahsoka because it came out in 2015 but later it was revealed to be Kallus.
I love Wedge he was one of the understated characters in Star Wars.
Wedge return was a shock to all but a welcome one
I was pretty sad that Snap Wexley died at Exegol and that there was no scene with Wedge's reaction after being a father figure to the pilot. I do hope the new canon has more stories for him in this aftermath.
does Snap die on screen? or is it mentioned elsewhere? I don't remember that part in the movie..
@@orinanime he died on screen. They showed how his X-Wing was blown up & we saw Poe's reaction to his death shortly before Lando arrives with the fleet.
@@orinanime what Ark said. It was a blink and you'll miss it moment.
@@ArkBagas oh man I must've missed it or forgot. Time to rewatch
While I do completely agree with you, it would be a bit strange for most people, as there have been no references to that in the movies and Snap being pretty much a background character in them
I personally prefer Wedge Antilles Legends story, but those Rebels chapters add so much charisma to the character!
What was his legends story?
Yeah gotta admit while I like his new canon story fine, I do miss his Legends story and all the escapades of the Stackpole and Allston X-Wing novels.
Yeah RIP Aaron Allston, one of my favorite Legends writers who I never got to meet because I missed the year he did Star Wars Weekends at Disney World. I got to meet Karen Traviss, Troy Denning, Timothy Zahn and Christie Golden, but I will always wish I had gotten to meet Aaron Allston. I still use the quote from the Wraith Squadron books "you can't look dignified when you're having fun" on a regular basis.
Totally agree, I loved the old rogue squadron novels. They had some brilliant stories and the famous ewok pilot 😀
@@GORILLA_PIMP he lead Rogue Squadron in a 4 book series labeled X-wing. He was pretty vital in taking over coruscant a couple years after return of the jedi.
I recommend you checking these out on audible or something, very fun wedge content and some new faces that became some of my favorite Star Wars characters.
Wedge > Biggs.
TAKE THAT, ALEX!! *runs away*
Took me Years to realize they weren't the same character
Wedge has always been my favorite Star Wars character. This year, I got the chance to meet Denis Lawson at the Toronto ComicCon. He was wonderful. Lifelong fan of the character, and now, the man.
Imagine if we got a series focused on Wedge alone that'd be great
I think it could work. Don't know who to cast
It's interesting that out of all of the things to keep consistent from his Legends background, a love interest whose husband was captured by the empire and turned into a sleeper agent was one of them.
Ikr. The Aftermath books were the first star wars books I read. And recently I listened to the Rogue Squadron legends books and I'm like "wow ok so Nora is basically Iella" XD
"Along with the bravest and most handsome ..." 😂😂😂🍸🍸🍸
For those who don't know that information, Dennis Lawson, the actor that played Wedge in the original trilogy and in Rise of the Skywalker, is uncle of Ewan McGregor, the actor that played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy and, will be back as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Kenobi series that will show the adventures of Obi-Wan on Tatooine while he is protecting Luke Skywalker.
This aged well /s
I'm not sure if it would fit the time line but I always thought it would have been cool had a young Wedge made a cameo in Solo, particularly in the scene where Han signs up for pilot training in Corellia. It could have simply been like a young boy standing around and you hear his parents yell, "Wedge! Get over here!"
Aside from Jaina Solo and Han Solo, Wedge is my third favorite character of all time. Thank you thank you so much for uploading this 💙
They should of had Wedge like he was in the Rogue Squadron novels. Wedge was hands down the best starfighter pilot ever.
Too bad we couldn't get Wedge and had to settle for Poe, instead. I believe Denis Lawson not wanting to reprise the role was why Poe was created.
When I was reading the old Expanded Universe books for the first time I was always super excited when Wedge was a major part of the storyline.
Great Video! Would love it if there were citations in the video so we could more easily look up stories if they sound interesting.
It brought me immense joy hearing wedge (the original) voicing his character in Star Wars squadrons
omg my favorite Star Wars character 😃
Lol really?
Great vid on my favourite side character! I prefer his legends story but the canon ones pretty good too
Great video!! So glad you made this!!
General Wedge Antilles. Legend of The Rebel Fleet
The “Certain Point of View” books really flesh out Wedge’s character! Made him one of my favorite characters in SW.
I don't care if they changed it in the NuCanon, Hobbie did NOT die on Hoth! He was presumed dead (not the first, or last time!), and later rejoined Rogue Squadron.
The additions to the canon are all well and good, but the Legends stuff will, for me, always be the true core for all the pilots' stories.
I'll never forgive Disney for erasing the most Beautiful Moment from Star Wars History...Wedge and Tycho happily informing Jaina Solo and Kyp Duron about how they were about to use Lusankya to Orbitally Bombard the Yuuzhan Vong on Borleias.
Great video idea! Would love to see more.
Thanks, Alex! 🌌
I never knew this was the guy from rebels
Awesome video
Very interesting
This was awesome! Perhaps there could be a timeline on screen to give an indication around where in the timeline the key events happen?
Wish someone would talk about me the same way Alex talks about Biggs 😩
Can you please do wedge’s legends story? It would be really great to see.
Would love you to do a complete timeline for Cobb Vanth - I think that would make a good video bringing together the Mando and Aftermath stories and how, if it all they fit and in what order they take place .
I'm in the middle of watching rebels again but with my 89 year old uncle and we just watched the episode that wedge was rescued by Sabine,he likes rebels and the bad batch
Hey Alex! I think it would be very helpful if you had a small text box on screen saying what the source is for whatever you are talking about
MY BOI
My favorite all time character
Wedge really lost his brother-in-arms Luke and his son-like figure Temmin.
First view and first comment. Good, good (Palpatine's voice)
wedge my goat
Wedge Antilles
Bail Antilles
captain Antilles.
What is the connection.
It was just a common last name a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
It's the Star Wars equivalent of Smith or Jones.
The same connection with the Skywalkers and the Skywalkers
Ikr it's dumb they have so many people with that name
Like why do that?
Do a movie on Wedge!
I keep forgetting that Denis Lawson is Ewan McGregor's uncle
Derek "Hobby" Klivian did NOT die on Hoth. He is a main character in the Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron books that take place years after that battle. Get your facts right.
Can you do the complete timelines of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, C-3P0, R2-D2, Anakin Skywalker, Commander Rex, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Yoda? If you can that would be awesome but if not that's ok.
You know something I just found out today his nephew the guy who played wedging tillies in the original trilogy his nephew is Aaron McGregor who played Obi-Wan in the prequel
I never knew that Wedge was an imperial at one time or that he was from the same planet as Han Solo.
I love wedge! Hobbie did not die. He was a member of rogue squadron.
Wedge doesn't get an entire fighter/bomber wing destroyed trying to a glory hound
This is a question for all the viewers of this channel. But what do you think would be in the definitive cut to Star Wars Episode Four?
I’m kind of new when it comes to Wedge Antilles so forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but is he in anyway related to Captain Antilles for A New Hope?
There was a Legends book that specifically stated they had no relation, and that's probably still true.
Wait, where did the stuff about Wedge’s parents and Mala’s death get canonized?
Yub-Yub, Commander.
I'd like to point out that Denis Lawson was in his 70s when he returned for The Rise of Skywalker. Dedication, y'all.
Wedge really Uriah-ed that one guy. That's why I prefer Col Takbright.
What about Wedge Anteaterilles?
Wait, I thought this was meant to be a Final Fantasy 7 video?
Fun Fact: The actor for Wedge is actually Ewan Mcgregor’s uncle.
I thought Wedge and Biggs were childhood friends of Lukes in A New Hope?
You did forget one thing.Wedge Antilles did capture the super star destroyer Lusancia
Lusankya
Nora Wexley is cool and all, but she's got nothing on Iella Wessiri.
Is he related to Captain Antilles?
wedge, poe, & rex are my fave characters.
He was the Rebels best pilot
Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Hera Syndulla would have something to say about that.
Still, he's right up there with Han, Hera, and Poe Dameron as the best non-Force-sensitive pilots in the entire franchise's current canon.
If Wedge Antilles doesn't appear in Rogue Squadron movie i'm gonna be dissapointed heavily
Same same.
Lucas Film/Disney should have given Wedge his own film. He is the best pilot in the galaxy, and Luke and the Rebellion could not have won without Red Leader.
"Luke Skywalker, who is... fine" hahahaha
Those are canon comics I’m assuming.
Gotta love Wedge, but you can't not mention Biggs. Biggs is the true chosen one.
Let's see if there's a Canon explanation on why the character's appearance was changed.
In the original movie? There literally is from “From a Certain Point of View”, there was a guy that looked like (and resented I think?) Wedge
@@PJWB Is Fake Wedge the "impossible, even for a computer" guy?
@@ElloAsty Yes.
What a… tragic character. He lost everyone except Norra
You forgot to mention that he's the uncle of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
correction, Hobbie lived.
Rogue squadron is getting a show isn't it
It’s getting a movie but it’s been delayed indefinitely
Wait so why are you such a big Biggs fan? Lmao I’m curious
FULCRUM? YODIE GANG?
Luckily they did not kill of Wedge in the sequels. Bad enough they killed Niem Nub.
And Admiral akbar
Legends Wedge is better. Wraith Squadron. And he gets the girl sooner :p
I've never understood the hype over wedge... He has what, 2 lines of dialogue in the OT?
It is because he is in the entire trilogy and the only person who can claim at least partial credit for two Death Star kills. And all that as a side character who only has a few lines.
Edit: and his Legends material is fantastic. The X-Wing books are worth a read even now.
That mostly comes from a series of Legends novels.
Wait wait wait.... Isn't the entirety of Star Wars about Wedge?
Cool! Now do a female character - I vote for Mon Mothma!
Wedge may very well be the most important character in starwars that ISNT a main character.
If the movie writers cared about book Canon would his stepson Snap Wexley have died in Rise of Skywalker? His ship blowing up hit me harder than Luke's death after having read those novels and comics.
I much preferred Wedge's life and backstory as it was written by Michael Stackpole for the X-Wing Series of books and comics.
Not this new retconned Disney trash.
How on earth is this retconned when it’s literally a different timeline
@@omarbaba9892 Apparently, you never read the X-Wing books or comics by Michael Stackpole.
I still don't like the added imperial training stuff. we have enough imperial defectors.
you don't need to add wedge to that list.
Didn't that happen in Legends too?
@@KEVMAN7987 Nope. Several of Rogue Squadron's best were Imperial defectors (Tycho, Hobbie and Baron Fel), as was Biggs Darklighter, but Wedge was not one of them.
