      It does add a pile of complexity that make one want to return to the days of simple electromechanical vehicles. The easiest way to simplify things again now is move to an electric motor. You don't need all that anti-pollution kit because there isn't any in the first place. OK, you don't get 700 miles per tank, but you do get clean and quiet (and significantly cheaper motoring if you can charge at home). Seems a reasonable tradeoff.

    The company I work for has just had a Ford Courier van's DPF cleaned after the van went into limp, mainly due to it being used for short journeys. The mechanic told me that a regen involves over-supplying diesel, some of which washes down the bores, contaminating the engine oil. The oil level might even rise! He recommends _much_ more regular oil changes, because of this. I like the idea (from another comment) of opening the DPF chamber, throwing away the contents and welding it back up!

    Not like your solution, where chemical liquid and particles run directly onto the ground and contribute to contaminating the groundwater. The main reason the contaminants dont flow through the filter is because the particle size is too big. by using a solvent the dissolved contaminants can become smaller than the filter can hold and it will exit, so those on-car cleaning methods *can* work, but taking it off and cleaning in both directions is by far the best way.

    Cleaning a dpf while in place is often a cheaper and easier option due to the location of the dpf and due to exhaust sections being seized together.

    All this off vehicle DPF cleaning and DPF filter blockage can be avoided completely if the DPF self regeneration process took place as the vehicle system saw necessary. However if your fuel gauge is always below 1/4 level , the ECU will NOT kick in the self regeneration process….ending with a filter so blocked that forced regeneration with diagnostic tool or self regeneration becomes ineffective.

      @donner101 Yes sir. As long as the DPF has not been left to point of blockage the system will periodically self clean.... the ECU looks at the fuel level to commence this process. Because of the extra fuel required to achieve the high temperatures.

    • @johnpatterson5744
      @johnpatterson5744 Před 7 měsíci +1

  • @dmcarpman
    @dmcarpman Před 9 měsíci +4

    i had problems with me last kuga had to remove the dpf to clean it.
    did clean it before via dpf pressure sensor tube this worked just as well as the removal watching the pressure drop on my forscan system. then doing DPF rest the values.
    the biggest problem is people don't investigate correctly as to why the DPF regen is not working in the first place to keep it clean.
    Mel this could be to the fact that your DPF pressure sensor is faulty.
    also make sure that your sensor when you get fits in place and goes as deep into the exhaust as the original or you could get incorrect readings.
    that sensor works like a 02 sensor it needs exhaust flow over it hence the holes in it.

    it doesnt matter which way its flushed, best not to use narrow stream or turbo nozzle pressure washer on ceramics. soot doesn't matter, it can be flushed out after soaking in dishwasher tab or washing liquid, its the red ash that needs dissolving. wynns works to a point and needs 2 days, actually coca-cola works pretty much the same. alloy cleaner or HCL works better and does the job in 2-3hours,

    • @BigVanSmallWorld
      @BigVanSmallWorld  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Basically yes they are the one I broke was a heat sensor the two pipes are for a pressure sensor that senses the difference in pressure between the inlet and outlet of the DPF if the pressure is high on the inlet side and low on the outlet this tells the ECU that the DPF is blocked 👍

  • @danny6574
    @danny6574 Před 7 měsíci +3

    Your reasoning for taking off the dpf to be cleaned is flawed. The dpf captures the bigger particles created at lower temperatures when the engine is cold. Then burns them off during the regen allowing them to passthrough the filter. Blowing a cleaning solution into the dpf dissolves the soot into small enough particles allowing it to passthrough the filter.
