@@ronfrankl According to Belinda's memoir, Margot was a lot more important to the band's development than history gives her credit for (much like Barry Oakley of the Allman Brothers).

Induct this talented group of Musicians into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!! All female band, #1 Album all female band, paved the way for Punk Bands like "GreenDay". They weren't even listed on Top 40 Punk Bands by Rolling Stone. Travesty!!
Apparently, this was Belinda's "chunky punk" phase. She matured eventually, lost weight, and the band's collective style evolved and smoothed out as they went along. Right here, though, they're all looking pretty butch. A great vid for sure. Captures their early history.

And she got kicked from the band? There's always that one original member of a band that always has to fall by the wayside. Don't know, I like Kathy Valentine, but Olavarria's bass line on this live performance sounded great and dominant throughout the song, even better than Valentine's at times.
@@photographedemode ..It was Jane and Belinda who started the band. Margot was constantly complaining about their moving to more pop than punk. When she was ill they let her go. They did a poor job of letting her go, but it was the right decision. KV is far more talented.
So what? A lot of drummers count in their heads, so Gina counts out loud. She's a fabulous drummer and has inspired men and women. Many drummers can't play this song correctly. I am guessing you're either a bad drummer, or can't play anything so you sit and judge.

Pure, raw energy. This is like capturing the Beatles in Hamburg circa 1962. I can't stop playing this particular vid.
that music is so reminiscent of early 60's rock n roll, nice job by the bass player and lead guitarist.
Wow! I never knew this footage existed until just now! This is great. I’m a big fan of Margot so this is a treat. Thanks for uploading this!👍
The Go-Go's are the best female band ever.
Hands down

Let’s not get carried away. They’re great, but not even close to being the single “best”.
Belinda is beyond gorgeous.
I never found her attractive. I always preferred Jane and Kathy (probably because I'm bassist and a lyricist).

When Kathy did her audition/rehearsal with the band in December 1980 she used a borrowed Fender Mustang bass through Margot's Ampeg SVT rig seen here.
I'm guessing that's Margot, the cameramen are doing their usual job of not showing the bassist, so I wasn't sure.
@@markhunter8554 Yeah that's Margo. Kathy's a lot taller. Kinda harsh they used Margo's amp to audition her replacement behind her back.
@@Schteve59 Yeah, rock bands can be rather cut throat. Margot got Pete Bested.
Originally seen in September 1980. Their appearance was probably the most memorable moment of this series.
Very cool it still reminds me of the movie fast times at Ridgemont high lol
Love Charlotte’s Gibson SG with a whammy bar. She typically plays her telecaster or green mustang.
Saw them in NYC that summer. Margot!
Awesome. Was it in a intimate club setting? If it was did you have the chance to meet the band afterwards? What was Margot like in those days?

The GOGOs are so awesomely amazing and very talented and beautiful too I love Jane Gina Kathy and Charlotte
that was not kathy,meathead
the gogos are the queens
brilliant !!!
Probably their first national TV appearance. Second would be the syndicated "Hollywood Heartbeat" show in October.

During this moment they still kind of punk, but that quickly changed to "new wave"
"SCALPER? Did you just call me a scalper?"
Margot!!
Bouncy, sassy punkettes!
They are definitely going in Hall of Fame a Slam Dunk.

Belinda was quite portly.
My guess is, after they were signed to I.R.S./A&M, management said, "Belinda, you gotta lose 10 pounds."
