these indices are used to decide international investment strategies so they affect pension fund, FDI and FII inflows. they are also used to calculate imf interest rates. other than that they set narratives about india abroad and seep into cultural stereotypes about indians. this affects our overseas workers, students and NRI safety and security as well as their human rights. they may also be used to restrict immigration rates which can affect remittance flows. they also affect international tourism into india and our exports.

The index reflects the quality of education these analysts received.
Also, the criteria many times is opaque and non transparent. Sometimes, they consider absolate numbers, sometimes they consider number per million population to suit their agenda. It is neither rational nor transparent. It is just agenda driven.
I think by publishing our own ratings giving the rationale and being transparent, we can teach a lesson to these western think tanks.
