I'm glad nobody has criticized Eli for sounding different due to Robert Guillaume passing away. I've seen people be stupid assholes about that stuff in other games, shows, and movies, more power to James Moses Black. Thanks to him for giving it 100% no matter what.
To be honest James sounds very similar to the original Eli voice actor, so i don't mind him voice acting Eli at all, he's actually great at being Eli.
he did a really good job and alyx's new voice actress also really grew on me, love them both!
I think Robert Guillaume had a one-of-a-kind voice. James Moses Black is a great voice for younger Eli, but it's a ballsy move to have him play the older version too now.
He does a really good job i can't deny that! I do hope Alyx's og voice Meryl returns for HL3 though. Since it *is* our old Alyx again and not a younger version of her. Ozioma does a good job but for me atleast she's not Alyx.
i'm personally fine with the new eli, but the new alyx and still using tony todd for the vorts irks me. todd can't do the vorts quite as well as gossett jr

I've always wondered who voiced the combine soldiers, or how they achived that radio-like effect. Oddly, there's no mention of combine voice actors in any sources I've looked up

James Moses Black did a fantastic job as Eli. Even if he does sound noticeably different from Guillaume's Eli we all know and love, never once throughout the game was I thrown off by James' performance. He captured Eli in his own way, and it totally worked
Exactly, he has this weird way of convincing you Eli always sounded that way. Valve have done really well keeping not only the voices consistent as possible, but everything else including the environments and a lot'a sounds as well

@@chompchompch There's plenty of other character that could reappear...Russell, Adrian, Colette, maybe Gina if she's not dead... Just because they don't appear, it doesn't mean they aren't in the world. We don't see houndeyes, bullsquids, or snarks in HL2, but we know they are still out there

For anyone who wanted to know who voiced the head crabs, the man who did it was Mr. Krabs.
At first I wasn’t too sure about Black as Eli and Akagha as Alyx, but after playing it they’ve certainly filled the boots. Akagha’s younger Alyx works and of course the great Guillaume’s passing needs a suitable replacement, and Black nails it. I’m kinda glad Todd reprised the role of the Vorts, would love to see/hear hi, back aswell as Gossett for the next game. Two Vorts having a conversation but as one of each VA would be a real nerdgasm

I was shocked when I heard that Tony Todd voiced the vortigaunts.
As good as this new VA for Alyx was, I still prefer Merle Dandridge.
i am not opposed to them using different VA's for some of the original characters, it's probably out of necessity. just a little disappointed but i can understand.
that said, it's grand to hear the Vortigaunts and G Man again :D

The original voice actor for Eli Vance passed away unfortunately, so Valve had no choice, but to recast him. The original voice actress for Alyx Vance was actually used in earlier builds of the game (you can still hear Merle Dandridge's voice in the 2019 Teaser and in the ending of the game), but was later replaced. Valve's official reasoning was that they wanted someone that sounded a little younger, since Alyx is supposed to be about 19 years old in this game, and Merle is about 44 years old. Given that Merle's voice is still used for the future Alyx that we hear in the ending, it's possible that she might come back for Half Life 3.
Rhys Darby and Kim Dickens are in all kinds of stuff, Fear the walking dead is where most will know Kim from.
Rhys has been in so many films its crazy.

Inaxowonium G-man is the same VA, and they used the same VA for Alyx until they decided they wanted a younger voice. The original VA recorded lines that you can still find in the code. The game never says it’s Judith Mossman and the credits don’t list her as Judith. So I don’t get why everyone seems to think it’s Judith

I don’t think Ozioma sounds like a younger Alyx. She just sounds like an entirely different person. She sounds nothing like what a young Alyx would sound like. Also, she’s over 40 years old, so the comparison to Merle is irrelevant.
She basically sounds like an imposter. She has no warmth of empathy in her voice. There's no nervousness or root connection to the world. Girl was reading lines off a page.

Merle was going to do it, but valve changed it to this lady last second, you can even hear Merle's voice in the promotional stuff but not the game. This new voice actress is terrible at playing alyx.
