I was a sucker for the $8 hinge too. My experience was the same as yours; had a bugger of a time getting the hinge on the door, but the door went onto the car without any issue. It works great, thanks! Always nice to see a quick video before attempting even simple repairs.

Thank you! I got the official BMW part for my 1994 540i and it fit perfectly. Your step by step instructions were very helpful. I agree with the commenter who said getting the pieces off of the broken one was much harder than installing the new one.

Hey guys. This is a re-upload of the video I posted a few days ago. It wouldn't process in 4K resolution. Well, now it's available in 4K. Enjoy!

Mine just broke a couple days ago when I pushed it to close it. I had to ordered a Bmw hinge since I saw a lot of bad reviews over this $9 one. Great video thank you for all your content

Thank you for the very concise and VERY practical instructions on the hinge replacement. You have skills Sir! Can you help with dead pixels on my dashboard and radio? ;)

Is there a way to get the metal clip in place without removing the entire fuel cap? The back of the clip won’t sit on its place and removing everything seems to tedious as everything might break. There is too little tension now and i need to close the lid each time i park my car.

I had a devil of a time doing this with the cheap plastic hinge adapter. So I’d recommend buying the OEM BMW one. I couldn’t get those two last tabs it to line up and snap in easily either but had a body shop do it for me and they didn’t even charge me 👍

Hey Brian, I think I agree. Now that I’ve used a $8 cheap hinge, I think next time around I’d get the genuine bmw item for a shocking $58 or so

I should mention that I bought the hinge from Parts Geek for $14.18(Shipping: 9.97: Tax Collected: 1.57: Grand Total=$25.72) Paid the for the expedited shipping and received it 2 days later.

Thanks, they are original. No treatment, the car was always garaged, even when not used much for a period of 10 or so years. I think that was the secret. Nicest BMW leather I’ve ever seen.
