@@jackbowescinema8002 Aye, got a sill and a jacking point to do in the next year or two. Other than that there's really only the fuel cap and some stone chips dotted about. Maybe the day will come that I own a rust free e39 🤞
cant you just replace that entire panel? would be better from a parts car if you want to keep it oem paint technically, right? i may be having that issue on my imola m5 soon , and am debating on doing that
Not on these cars actually. If you look at where that panel starts and ends it run all the way along the roof down the a pillar. These rear quarter panels are molded to the body. It’s annoying because replacing it would fix a lot of my rust issues haha.
I put 2 coats of rust converter, 2 coats of paint with a touch up pen, two coats of clear coat and Some linseed oil after I sanded it. Linseed oil has anti rust properties apparently.
Gonna be sorting my fuel filler rust in the next week or so. Good to see it getting done on a car with similar amounts of rust as mine.
Good good. It’s such a pain that they rust there but good you’re catching it early.

@@dtek497 haha, I have to do the same. Rust is the worst
Dont forget to poke the drain hole on the bottom right, it will stop the water from accumulating in the fuel door.
Good idea! Thanks!

@@jackbowescinema8002 yeah was looking into it after i posted this. unfortunate
So how did it work out for you? I just got a 2000 518i in September. And it's got a little bit in the same spot.
So far so good. I could have sanded it better though. If you only have a little rust sand it as much as you can and it won’t come back.
