The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

I know Leylah has faced tougher opponents over all but Emma has systematically dismantled every opponent she's faced and made them look ordinary when they're not at all. Will be a great final.
So hard to call
Fernandez has beat so many great players
But raducanu has destroyed everyone
Raducanu's poise is very impressive. Against Fernandez's grit, it should call for a highly entertaining battle.
Straight sets win for Emma
Sakkari was in-form! Looks like the birth of new Era!

Wow, Raducanu fought from the qualifying bracket to the main stage finals. Fernandez defeated the favorites and the big time names to head into the final. The finals is the battle of the teens, this is the finals I can proudly say that I've been most looking forward to in my life!
I think the first time two teens were in the final of a slams was Monica Seles vs Capriati at the U.S Open about 30 years ago
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 no, that was the semis in 1991. The last US Open final between teens was Hingis vs. Serena in 1999.
@@JamesFrew1 Thanks for the correction. I wasn't sure and hoped for a reply to correct me.
Raducanu has done great in the US open, it will be interesting to see how she handles if Fernandez wins the first set.
They have very similar backgrounds too which make it extra special.
First player ever in Men's or Women's side to reach GS final as a Qualifier and without dropping as set.

Haven’t followed tennis in a while. Picked a great year to binge on the U.S. Open. What an incredible story for both players. Can’t wait for the final.
Fernandez win
The US tennis association is very lucky to have what could be one of the most watched final matches in recent times ....Amazing
I think the last time was when the Williams sisters played that 2001 final. Their first finals meeting in a gs

So glad she didn’t get a wildcard for this tournament because she has now achieved an amazing feat nobody in history has done before.
maybe she will be the youngest qualifier to win the US Open, fingers crossed

Emma is probably the greatest underdog in tennis. She came here as a qualifier and from the get-go, she has been playing some extraordinary tennis. It didn’t matter if you beat the world no.1, or won an Olympic gold medal, she has come into the match knowing she has what it takes to win and she delivers. It’s unbelievable and she completely deserves her place in the final.
As Navratilova said, 'She looks like she's been here before.'
The first final I’ve looked forward to seeing in some time.
True that

Leylah vs Emma.. The most exciting and inspiring women's final for years.
In 23 years!
why is it inspiring?
I haven’t watched much WTA since Henin, now I’m back.
@@lolno8406 Beacuse both of the participants are under 20 yo, less or non-experienced comparing to some opponents they have beaten. Yet they found the way to the final match. That can be inspiring
Should be exciting, excellent for tennis and women’s tennis, should inspire some youngsters!
The sport of tennis, especially women's tennis has won incredibly. Two teenagers playing in a Grand Slam Final is crazy. Everyone looking forward to it now
So true , we need some fresh girls to bring back golden times of WTA back. Womens tennis was at one point much more fun to watch than men's. Im talking about early 2000. When we had sooo many amazing players , Venus, Serena, Hingis, Capriati, Davenport, Mauresmo, Henin, Clijsters...
@@skevakler it was never more fun to watch than men´s tennis due to the much lower quality in women tennis. Serena Williams lost e.g. in her prime to some random ranked 300 men player without having a chance.... Matches between Nadal, Federer, Djokokic, Murray etc. over the past years all 100x more exciting to watch than any female match and had on top of that 1000000000000x more quality.
@@lolno8406 First of all im talking about serve and voley mens tennis, second you are pointig out that Serena couldnt win against some men as an argument for what ? Djokovic and Andy turned pro in 2003. If i remember corectly and they never played like Sampras etc. Points in mens game at that time were faster , no baseline play while on womens side you could see amazing matches. Im not saying it was better and maybe for some it was more fun to watch mens tennis at that time but i think not a single person could say that womens tennis wasnt better then.
Yes,I have received it.
@User 2389 yeah maybe like yourself
Raducanu is so impressive. Fernandez is so resilient. This will be an amazing final. Well done to both.
that smile in the end made me so happy
lessgooo Emma this US Open is yours to take
Emma Raducanu is a natural; effortless serves, flawless forehands and backhands, smooth change of directions, quick intuitive nets; all these reminds me of young Federer, a grand champion type.
Why compare her to Federer when there was German teenager who beat Navratilova to win her first Grand Slam? I believe she too was 18....At 13 she was the youngest player in the world to gain an international ranking...If you going to compare Emma to anyone....compare her to Steffi Graf!
@@BoschGuy Navratilova was 13 years older than Graf. Graf barely faced Navratilova in her Prime
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 And yet Graf went on to win 22 Grand Slams vs Navratilovas 18 but that wasn’t the Point I was trying to make, i.e if Graf was better than Navratilova and vice versa... the trajectory of Emmas path at the beginning is similar to Graf’s and I hope she continues to hit those career highs and re-write history... so why compare her to male tennis legend? When the woman’s game has Steffi.
@@BoschGuy grafa was trash compare to monica. She set the attack up on monica so she can win slams.
Not like fed but like Boris becker.
Raducanu's movement on court and even off court reminds me of Li Na. She's very quick, has perfect footwork and her shots are beautiful, both, from forehand and backhand.
Exactly. She reminds me of Li Na.
@@keetengtan9627 She said Li Na is her idol, so it makes sense. She has more natural talent than Li Na imo, if she matches her work ethic, she will win many, many titles.
Dang. No matter who wins between Raducanu and Hernandez, both players lives have changed instantly. And they both made it to the final in style, beating seasoned players. Is it the changing of the guard, or is it a one off? Well, Raducanu did very well at Wimbledon, so no surprises here. Played with their hearts.
Fernandez*
Man, I don’t know. I’m so unfamiliar with these players. Based on tonight Raducanu is a machine. I predict straight sets from her but Leylah’s returns are downright beastly. Still, Radicanu is just cold blooded. Super smart shot selection and just doesn’t miss. Literally like a powered Hingis. She makes it look easy. I think she will win for sure. Hi
@@willybeama1 She's also 5ft.9 which is around the ideal height for a female tennis player. She hits a little harder than Fernandez and her defense should be better with her longer reach. Being a lefty will help Fernandez.
The fact that Fernandez had the tougher draw all the way to the final gives Raducanu an advantage; Fernandez was displaying some fatigue in the 3rd set against Sabalenka and clearly running on adrenaline. Will she have enough reserve in the tank if the final goes to a 3rd set. But being a leftie may give some advantage too.
both are exiting , beautiful , young and full of promises and both are born in canada.
What Emma Raducanu just did is insane.
She has not lost a set this entire tournament.

Emma’s ability to save breakpoints has been amazing, one of the reasons she hasn’t dropped a set yet.
She’s on a roll and I hope Leylah take her to the distance. Excited for an amazing final between two dreamy stories.
Agreed. Her returning has rightly been getting hyped (it was ridiculous today - lest we forget Sakkari didn't face a break point against Pliskova), but her serving on clutch / break points has been absolutely outstanding. So important, for confidence, momentum, and obviously the score!
Shes stoic most young players would stumble after blowing 40 -0 break points two times in one set.... she didnt . Very poised and confidant
Hope on....
If you wanted to understand what "in the zone" meant, this is it.
The precision and confidence on display is wonderful to watch.

@@nikolaandjelkovic9430 i agree. If she plays like this she has the win guaranteed
There's something about this girl that I see, that i don't see in most of the other top players on the women's tour. That ability to remain calm under intense pressure and scrutiny and execute. How many times has dug herself out of a hole this tournament when 0-30 or 15-40 down? At least a dozen times. That's a Champions mentality that you can't coach or teach somebody. She'll be a multiple GS-winner for sure.
You can't teach what she has to the likes of Svitolina, Pliskova, Sabalenka etc. She just has "it".
@Fazzy Kahn Bianca was injured for most part of the last two years. She played very little.
Excuse me , what intense pressure and scrutiny did Emma face? She was the underdog of underdogs and she faced literally 0 scrutiny , she was praised the entire time.
Before this match started I thought Sakkari will overpower Emma but what a match and what a win! Sakkari was on defense most of the time. Such a refreshing promising player! There is nothing but a great future for her.
The semifinals proved that having muscles like a man (Sakkari, Sabalenka) is not that important in women's tennis.

Emma has the Djoko return on lock. I was thinking she would have a hard time with Sakkari's serve but she returned each serve like it was nothing.
Exactly what I was thinking. Return after return at the servers feet on the baseline. Reminded me of Djokovic too.
And she's learned how to "slide" during this tournament
@@Jooolian That's one of the scarry things for her opponents. She's played less than 15 matches on the main WTA tour in her entire career so she's not even started learning yet. At the moment it seems like she picks up something in a match and then adds that to her box of tools. I know this is a kind of contradiction but like any world class player she seems to be playing one shot at a time while thinking 2 shots ahead.

Im so sad for Sakkari, 2 semi final almost straight and she loses to emma that made probably her best match of the tournament.
