- (22 Dec 1976) Black and white Rhodesians go about their pre-Christmas shopping in an apparent air of normalcy. In spite of ten years of economic sanctions, the breakaway British colony seems to have every Christmas item for sale in the shops for its black and white citizens, with only the occasional army and police patrol suggesting the political and military difficulties facing Rhodesia.

Those look like happier and more prosperous blacks that one would see in Harare ( Salisbury) today.
Peace has come to Zimbabwe.
@Ginza what are you on
@@timothythorne9464 Kind of yes but brutal poverty still
Back then Blacks in Rhodesia had the highest average income of any blacks in Africa by far, now Zimbabwe is among the poorest nations in Africa despite all its natural resources and being handed a thriving Industrialized nation.
@@deanfirnatine7814 Zimbabwe's HDI is higher than most African countries and the quality of life for most people hasn't changed.
Looks like a pleasant place to live.... fast forward to now and you won’t believe it’s the same place
communism destroy everything
@Ginza IAN started the war ? you are insane !
Smith didn't want black majority rule, yeah, but he stated multiple times himself he wanted blacks and whites leading the country together.
flavio Lima I don’t think communism is to blame. A lazy lack of vision is the problem.
@@Illuminated7 Communism IS a lazy lack of vision. It's a system built on envy in which the least productive citizens are rewarded while the most productive are punished. Kind of like California, USA, in 2020. Communism is the triumph of socialism i.e. the triumph of a Ponzi scheme that eventually runs out of other people's money to spread around.
Rhodesia seems like it could've stayed a great country into the modern day, shame I wasn't around to see it myself
(((media))) coordinated to destroy it, because they didn't want to let jewish domination into their economies. South Africa despite it's modern rating as 'the most antisemitic developed country' had few allies during early Apartheid, but surprisingly Israel was one of them. if you recall they both even worked together to build nuclear weapons and energy.
So sad. Could have been a wonderful land today.
first world country to muGAYbow destroyed it. now hes gone, lets hope the new leaders can restore it to its former glory.
what is that supposed to mean . Africans have the right to finally gain control of their land and govern it . It is the West colonialism that has destroyed a lot of things
@@jmartin4204 Rhodesia was on the way to being a first world nation in the 1970s. Now look at it. It is destroyed by radical afro-marxists who have no clue how to build anything. Millions have had to flee! How can you see the obvious evidence and turn it 180 degrees around? Tell me, my friend, what was in Zimbabwe before the Europeans set foot there? And btw white zimbabweans are every bit Zimbabweans, or would you care to dispute that too?
J Martin What a fool you are .Grain control then destroy it and sell it off to the new colonial rulers The Chinese !
@@kazleslie6334 bastard don't ever call me a fool
Rhodesia was a beautiful country and so clean. This was in 1976, the war was on and yet everyone, all races looked at peace and looked quite happy.
There was no apartheid and the system worked great. But communism came in.
Hence why we call it propaganda.
@@ayodejiolowokere1076 AP (who owns this footage) is an American organisation, I doubt it was either pro-Rhodesia or pro-communist
@@Jarmint good point. Though they weren't fighting communists, the Rhodesians.
'76 was the beginning of the end unfortunately. Portugal and SA stabbed Rhodesia in the back. The U.S. would cease trade in '77. After that, they were literally alone, fighting off millions of communists and their brainwashed kids.
Everything thats good has to come to an end sometime. I love watching these Rhodesian movies as it proves the point.
Everything bad as well. From my perspective, this video also proves it.
Rhodesia was a better country to live than Zimbabwe today. All the goodies were available in shops at affordable prices regardless of war. The cities were clean and attractive to businesses
So you liked living in a racist society and the cruelties and ravages of Western imperialism which most of it is . There was more bad sides than there was the good . Remember this it is the West who even to this day has ruined it with their toxic imperialism
@@jmartin4204 ..How old are you????
@@shanesampson9730 why do you need to know
@@jmartin4204 To know whether you were old enough to have experienced what what you are talking about, or whether your opinion is based on propaganda.
What are you makiwa, marungu, what?
Then you hear someone lying that First Street was no go zone for blacks yet RAR with bandmaster McDonald are playing
That is the Salvation Army Band. Black people are on the streets and in the shops.
Was about to ask the same
There are black people in the video, did you not see them?
Salisbury was good : Shame to see it today
Just remember not everything about Western Imperialism was great
@@jmartin4204 While I agree with you, please remember that Western Imperialism was not monolithic i.e. it wasn't all the same. There were huge differences between how the colonial powers behaved. Not every colony was as bad as, for example, the Belgium Congo, which was among the worst. And the idea that all native peoples were "noble savages" is historically inaccurate as well. The anti-West sentiment that lumps all colonial powers on one side and all native peoples on the other is a simplification used by socialists and academic virtue-signalers to teach a kind of reverse racism that is as unfair and wicked as the reactionary version.
@@jmartin4204 That's not what he said. He said Salisbury was good, shame to see it today, he was a black Zimbabwean that said that , So stop talking S**t and listen to what people say, before you comment on your one sided agenda.
@@shanesampson9730 if that's the case. He would have called it Harare. Not "SALISBURY"...
@@jamesmccann355 What? He was referring to it as past tense, as in "Salisbury WAS great" and for a Zimbabwean to comment as such speaks volumes.
Western imperialism be it negative or positive has absolutely nothing to do with the comment on Salisbury, and putting down something that was good just to get some form of satisfaction to demonize or humiliate a people, deserves a retort.
Notice how slim everyone is.
No litter.. anywhere...
Why Rhodesia looks like a American city?
It looks nicer than today's American cities. Even Beirut looks nicer than Detroit in 2020.
Because the people were industrious and had great values before the commies destroyed it
Beautiful Rhodesia gone to ruins God please give us back our right ful country with its rightful name Rhodesia all things are possible when you believe an pray it's going to happen we save a blessed loving faithful living Lord Amen thank you Jesus
@@trisgilmour...and have a look at the "values" of capitalist America. Will you blame the commies for that one too?
So weird to see no snow in christmas
Because it's Africa

a few years later and civilisation would come to an end a lesson we should learn in britain before we continue as we are
it looks like a European city, the population
Nice to see the band are not predominately Africans . That year spent the very first Christmas in the UK was ten months old .
Потерянный рай...навсегда.
! Viva el pueblo blanco de Rhodesia ! Rhodesia fué la primera nación de Africa por los Blancos
Ian Smith made a mistake of racial discrimination otherwise blacks wouldn't have rebelled
I think you have a limited understanding of Rhodesia, black or white.
@@gentilebeliever2249 so tell what were the long term causes of the Liberation Struggle?
Blackjew BREEDLOVE : you may call it a liberation struggle. What is liberation ? The black population wanted black majority rule. They were and are the majority if one decides various racial groups in the minority had no say in running the country. Zimbabwe has been run into the ground by a government of hate and ineptitude and South Africa is even worse in many respects.
Really??? He knew that if we gave in we would be treated like dogs with no way or means to defend who and what we are, Tell me why every country in the world that has blacks, the blacks attack the whites, Is that all because of Mr Smith and Rhodesia, or is it because they are whites and blacks, the blacks are allowed to fight for what they are and believe, but the whites aren't in fear of being called a racist... Even there the white are being victimised because they support who and what they are. So who must give in or give way? and when will it end? Because if a truce is reached, there will still be blacks and whites, So will that be the end???????????????
