It's not *really* about being a fool when you use a bigger sword or a cannon when it comes to saying it at Zoro, so it's not really that more accurate of an analogy either, it's just wordy.

      I think the actor is also the most balanced between being an anime character while also being a believable live action character unlike most of the other members. Luffy for example leans more into the anime personality, Zoro and Nami feel a bit emotionless at times compared to their anime counterparts. Ussop is actually really decent. But sanji nails the role so well.

    • @WatanukiProductions
      @WatanukiProductions Před 5 měsíci +5

      I love toning down his perversion as I don't think that specifically is needed for the character but we'll see if they toned down his simpishness too much going forward in future seasons. Cause one of the most important aspects of Sanji's character is that he desires women more than anyone else on the crew but he can't attain them specifically because he's so desperate for their affection, his obsequiousness makes him woman repellent. He has so many attractive traits that he needs to be a bit over the top to cancel them out. He's kind, handsome, a gentleman, strong, in touch with his emotions but stoic when he needs to be, mysterious, well dressed and well groomed, he is fantastic cook, he has strong nurturing instincts and he's surprisingly good with children, and he is loyal to a fault. Hence why Viola and Pudding (Who both have been manipulated by toxic people who didn't value them) both were immediately attracted to him when they got past the surface level and saw the man he really is.
      Basically Sanji has to be a bit pathetic in a really overt way or he'll be picking up women at every island along the way as well as pushing him towards being a womanizer which would go against his kind and loyal nature way more than being a flirt or perv.
      Though starting a Thriller Bark they do go way too far in the perv direction with Sanji which is only made worse by the timeskip and it isn't until he gets an arc focused on him that he's able to calm down a bit and be the Sanji I love again.

      it's not exactly the same thing tho - I have started the anime myself but I still miss the show because I also fell in love with the take the actors had on their characters. It's like the show and anime are siblings: they resemble each other and you love them both as their own entities instead of treating them as interchangeable

    • @LucificNight
      @LucificNight Před 5 měsíci +3

      The anime and this show are like polar opposites when it comes to pacing.
      Take the Wano arc in the anime: I LOVED the animation for key battles. and they didn't need to go SO HARD for Queen's performance. But I still felt like certain sections were just too slow, and those amazing highs kinda highlighted the glacial pace at certain parts.
      I have the opposite issue with the live action: I felt Usopp and Sanji were crowded out in their introductory episodes. Considering they're crew members, I wish they were more in focus. I can understand Mihawk, but they should have given more of a spotlight to God himself.
      Usopp's actor is doing an impressive job for a role I never would have thought possible to translate to live-action, and I really wanna see more of that.

      @noxfior Před 5 měsíci

      @@LucificNight It's unfair to try and objectively compare the two because it sets unrealistic expectations. By itself the show stands fairly, and keep in mind that it is limited by time, real life translation and budget in ways the anime isn't. The show did everything it was supposed to do , it's not perfect but nothing is and imho it's pretty solid in its storytelling, better than many other shows that don't even have the same limitations to be quite honest. Also, the show barely scratches the surface of the story while you have a 1000+ episodes of the anime you're comparing this to. Give it time to grow.
      Having watched already both Sanji and Usopp's introductions in the anime, i can say that I don't mind the pacing in the show. I actually prefer it, I felt like some parts of the anime were too repetitive and dragging, while the show went straight to the point and showcased the poignant bits necessary to both character and plot, but I can see pros and cons of both mediums and why one may prefer one over the other.
      Only one criticism I have of the show regarding Usopp is that it made him a bit more cowardly than the anime so far. I preferred the portrayal in the anime. Nothing on the actor, tho, I think he did amazing, the casting is on point, it's just that the writing made the character that way and it's not even that big of a deal, especially since they can showcase more of his bravery in future seasons.

    2:47 He went from "Why I oughta!" to "You've made me so proud." within seconds. In the anime, 400 episodes later Garp probably made Rick cry or shed tears believe me.

    when i saw this introduction to mihawk - i had to gasp. its perfect. its almost better than what they did in the anime. at least at feels JUST as epic if not more. the casting is also spot-on. sanji had a bit of a more badass intro in the anime than here, but i still like it a lot here. also - extremely impressive of taz skylar to actually do his kicks. like, you get so used to shows always strategically cutting away to the stunt doubles when stuff like that happens, and of course thats understandable, but you can really tell how fluid it can feel when the camera can stay on the actor bc theyre doing their own stunts.

    The wildest thing about Mihawk that still today blows me away isn't just how strong he was. When I watched this in the anime during 2004 everyone at the time knew Mihawk was a big deal and the best swordsman in the world, but until 20 years later no one really knew just how important he was going to be to the story and that even though he was just a warlord, he was on the level of an Emperor which is just mind blowing to think about that all the way back here in the story. The first introduction to a warlord was actually one of the most powerful characters in all of the One Piece world. Good thing the rest of them weren't as strong or Luffy's story would have ended before getting half-way through the Grand Line. lol

    Having watched the anime to the current episodes, I believe the live action has done a fantastic job with condensing the story down. Especially with Don Krieg cause he actually had his own arc but it didn't really fit into the narrative that well, in my opinion. So seeing Mihawk fight them on the beach was satisfying to see.

    Also … RIP to Akira Toriyama he passed away earlier this week due to a subdural hematoma hemorrhage. The creator of One Piece has credited Toriyama’s Dragonball and other works as an inspiration on One Piece. Toriyama gave so much to the world through his Manga works like Sandland and the Dragonball Manga series (later animes), as well as his art in most Dragon Quest games, Blue Dragon, Final Fantasy IX, and several other places. Thank you, Toriyama-San, you will be missed. 😢

    Good on you for remembering Mihawk's compliment for Luffy's hat. It is indeed worth asking whether he's seen it before.

    The balance they've struck in this show on all fronts is so impressive. The choreography of the fights, Making things realistic enough so that it doesn't look ridiculous in the real world but also not so realistic that it no longer has it's silly charm, the actors playing the characters quirks enough so that they are there but not to the point where they are annoying or problematic, the mix of CG and physical sets so the world looks and feels real etc etc. I just love it.

    Fun fact Oda used to work part-time at a restaurant called Baratei
    - Sanji is played by while Taz Skylar who was also Walt in “The Lazarus Project”, Gin in “The Deal”, Billy in “Boiling Point”, & many more. Fun fact he & Zeff’s actor actual work together before having a father son relationship so this was perfect casting
    - Mihawk is played by Steven John Ward (who also is Mark in “Catch Me a Killer”, Ezra in “Triggered”, Chaz in “Vagrant Queen”, & many more) while his younger self is played by Theo Le Ray
    - Zeff is played by Craig Fairbrass who also is Eddie (Villian), Arkad (Stargate SG-1), Pat (Rise of the Footsoldier), & many more
    - Krieg (bounty 17,000,000 Berries / Yen = $ 115,595.14) is played by Milton Schorr who also is Burrell (Black Sails), Graham (Warrior), Mercenary (Tomb Raider), & many more
    - Patty is played by Brashaad Mayweather who also is Bmore (Summer with the Guys), Brown (Deep Blue Sea 3), Damion (The Coroner), & many more
    - Gin (bounty is 12,000,000 Berries / Yen = 81,596.57) is played by Litha Bam who also is Bartok (Raised by Wolves), Ben (Warrior), & many more
    - Fullbody is played by Jean Henry who is also Arno (Diepe Waters)
    - Moody is played by Amber Hossack & she was also in Cut-Out Girls
    - “Cresent Moon” Gally is played by Nkulueko Phiri who also is Hlubi messenger (Shaka iLembe) which was Luffy’s first opponent in the Romance Dawn one-shot manga
    - Here are some Easter Eggs like:
    - With the Going Merry’s railing getting broken by cannon balls reminds me that we don’t have Johnny & Yosaku here to fix it because this is the point in the Manga / anime when they appear
    - Garp uses his technique called Genkotsu Meteor / Meteor Fist where he throws a cannonball at an enemy ship while it looks like Luffy just came up with his Gum-Gum Balloon technique
    - When entering the Baratie their outfits are from color spread: Luffy’s is from Ch.28, Usopp’s is from Volume 8 special, & Nami is wearing her outfit based on her Baratie arc & Ch.50 (minus the letters “WC”) which notice that the circles on her skirt are like a pocket
    - Once they enter notice the paintings on the wall references Gaimon on the Island of Rare Animals, Sabaody, a Giant King Squid, a battle at sea = maybe the Edd War, a giant wave with faces = sea monkeys from Ch.304, a Sea Beasts from Fishman Island, Foolshout Island (Koala’s birthplace), Kyuka Island, & the ceiling art is maybe the All Blue or Fishman Island
    - Sanji’s dish that he made is made of Elephant Bulefin Tuna which is the same dish from Sanji’s Cookbook & the fish that he buys in Lougetown from Sapi that originates from the South Blue, & if you look on the kitchen wall references species from the One Piece world like a wild boar, dinosaur, the panda shark, armored stone fish, tomahawk spiny lobster & dragon salmon (Shokugeki No Sanji)
    - Sanji mentions Ithurzburger Stein a drink from Micqueot in the North Blue that Fullbody mentions when he ask for the wine from Sanji in the manga / anime, but then with the Straw Hats he mentions Umeshu a wine that Kureha drinks
    - Luffy ordering milk is a reference to Ch.1 when after Shanks gave him milk he was mock for being a kid
    - Koby just like Nami in Ep.1 mentions 77th Branch which is lead by Pudding Pudding
    - Notice that on the cannon ball Krieg shoots at Mihawk has his Jolly Roger, & after his defeat you can see another named member behind him named Pearl “the Invincible Shield”
    - The large drink that Usopp had notice it had Sea Kings painted on it
    - During the Ending Credits you can see that they have added the Baratie located in the Sambas Region

    to answer one of eric's questions here - your strong positive feeling about the live action comes from 2 sources. one being the sheer, undeniable outstanding quality of the original series' writing. and the second is that the netflix creators for once in netflix's history decided to follow the original as closely as it possibly gets. not re-writing, reimagining and making a different story out of it, but doing the original justice in live. that single decision is what gives you this feeling, bc the moment they decided that they'd commit to the original it was already on its way to be a successful adaptation by the pure logic that the original has been one of the greatest stories ever told in fiction. one piece's writing both plot, world and character wise is impeccable. the anime/manga is actually even better, so the moment they decided to commit it was the safest best decision they made. and then they found the perfect cast. that's it.
    i personally don't believe it's bc you're a non-anime watcher with no history with the series, so that's what makes it such a good experience, you'd get this wonder just the same if you knew the series. long time fans been loving and feeling it too, though for us it's also coupled with the positive surprise that they didn't botch it. the funniest thing is that what you're getting with the live action is less than the original series actually. so imagine how good the og has to be that even a more limited (but good!) version of it is THIS good. that's why people been telling it's criminal this channel never touched it seriously.
