    • Unifi AP - First Time ...
    In this video, I go over how to configure a Unifi Access Point for the first time. If you don't quite know how to install one of these access points and configure it, just follow the steps in this video and get it running in no time.
    Now, there is also a mobile app version of the controller software you can use instead of the PC-based controller, but I don't go over that in this video.
    I know this doesn't technically belong in the Edgerouter playlist, but I don't really have a home for anything Unifi right now.
    This video was a response to a request by user R Gb. If you have any comments or suggestions for other videos leave them down below and I will get to them when (and if) I can.

    Thank you so much! This really helped me setup my home network. Since the pandemic we have been working from home and I needed a solid network. I got and Edge-router 10X with a UAP-AC-PRO, I was not sure how to get it up and running but after watching to of your videos, I was up and running in a couple of hours. I was using the PoE on my Edge router but it was not powering the AC-PRO then i noticed it needed 48V and not 24V, beginners mistake!

    I'm placing this comment here too possibly save someone a lot of time maybe. If you have an issue with the device "Not Adopting". Turn off your Anti Virus Software or also your Firewall temporarily and check the software notification for device Adopting. Click it and see if you can now adopt and complete that process. I wasted so much time fumbling with what the hell was wrong until a lot of reading lead me to do that and was later able to complete the process and getting the unit working. Hope this helps someone!

    You are my hero! I ordered these eero devices that our internet service provider recommended, and they were not working well so I returned them and while futzing with those, I noticed these round disks on the ceiling in the great room and in our gym and had no idea what they were. I thought they had something to do with the smoke detectors/fire sprinklers LOL. I googled the name and found you, thank goodness. Our Audio-visual guy had installed these a few years back before we moved in and I am not versed on these whatsoever but thanks to you and my 12 ft ladder, they are working like a charm. Thank you soooo much! Turns out I never needed the eero devices and had these all along. You rock!!!

    It is worth mentioning that some ports should be open on the PC where "controller" is installed.
    for example 8080 is used for device (e.g. access point) and controller communication. I think it is not possible to adopt the device if the port is closed on the PC where "controller" is installed.

    Thanks for the video, helped me setup my AP. I have an additional request. I want to add to my existing wireless network where I use a another router to create the wireless newtorks so I want this unit either to use a wireless uplink and enhance the networks or a wired uplink but still use the same wireless networks as my other two existing ones

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  Před 4 lety +1

      I'm not 100% sure if I understand, but the best option would be to use a wired uplink.
      Are you talking about using two Unifi APs or a Unifi AP with a third-party router/AP? Wired uplinks will always be best, and you can use the same SSID on more than one. With Unifi APs, roaming works very well between same-SSID APs. With third-party devices it still works, but there may be some hiccups. As long as the SSID, password, and network are the same, you shouldn't have much issue.
      Wireless uplinks are generally reserved for when there are no other options. Also, they only function between Unifi devices that support it (you can't wirelessly uplink a Unifi device to a third-party device with the exception of extenders)
