Richard Ayoade is the national treasure who refuses to accept that he is a national treasure
I agree with him
I agree with him but not you.
Tom Langford I'm from the US and even I think he is a national treasure. Is that possible? Can we share him?
mchlross3 As an Australian, I would have to say he is a treasure of the former British empire, as most of us here would agree
I'll drink to that
Richard is a master of deadpan humor, but I love that you can hear a slight quiver in his voice here despite his best efforts, betraying how much emotion he's really feeling at this moment. Really lovely speech.
+jabberwagon byeas i brought thte number of likes from 299 to 400 love rounding numbers of
+Joeink100 Must've hit that like button real fucking hard then.
Sherlock Mowg yeah i decided to hit it hard enough to correlate to 101 like as as well as having it a round number i needed it to be in the 200 times table.
(i only just noticed the mistake i made)
It's probably anxiety (which he suffers from)
I think the quiver is anxiety hence the 'oh that's a lot of people' at the start
He doesn't even try..
Humor just oozes out of him.
Comedians practice a lot.
I bet Richard's speech was probably prewritten.
Thomas Steele watch his interview with Alan Carr, the speech wasn't prewritten, he thought of it while he was on stage. And also it doesn't matter if it was prewritten, because we all know that if anyone else had said it, it wouldn't have been as funny XD
Richard is one of my favourite comedians, but I think most people are naive about how most comedians are not spontaneous.
Most stand up is just a repetition of pre-written jokes practised and delivered to perfection.
He could have said his speech off the cuff, but his speech is a great opportunity to advertise his skills in comedy, so if I were Richard I would have pre-written my speech just in case I won.
Even if this is the case, it just seems to work with Richard
Yeah, it works for Richard, like it works for George Carlin, Sean Connery, Frankie Boyle, Eddie Murphy, Bill Hicks and Robin Williams.
I know all of my comedy heroes pre-wrote their sets, maybe one new set a year, after a few years in comedy consistently writing new jokes it will give them hours of material of riff off of. And since it has being used before the material has been market tested to prove that it satisfies their audiences.
You wouldn't feel cheated if a concert song wasn't improvised on the stage live, you want to hear the best stuff, just like comedy, but people are under the illusion that it is spontaneous.
Who would have thought that a Norwegian and a Nigerian would give birth to the most English Englishman ever to live in England?
Lots of similar cases...
I did !
That’s basically how England works isn’t it 😂😂
When he mentioned his wife I think I actually spotted some facial expressions
Mythagoras I did as well, and most of the time, I don’t see that happen from him. That was a bonus.
Oh wait no, it was just a breeze.
Are you sure he isn’t just dealing with trapped wind ? X
"More than everything" awwwwWWW
Pizza time
Well that might just be the best acceptance speech I've ever heard.
I dunno... this one takes some beating.
czcams.com/video/7_JUBgPHYmY/video.html
DispleasedEskimo I agree. I thought the same thing.
Now it's Jacksfilms' Shorty Award
Agreed it was brilliant! But Daniel Day-Lewis’ are intelligent & eloquent too.
look up bill wurtz shorty awards
damn that acceptance speech was a performance on its own.
He never stops, ever.
Oh really.
that might be a bad thing
Damn bloody good damn bloody acceptance speech
It was an awful attempt. It shows he needs a script or better performers.
Few actors are good without a script. Here's one.
I heartily disagree. He is useless without a script.
@@Nilguiri I object to your objection, have you heard the man?
@@kyro8581 Obviously I have heard him or I wouldn't have made the comment. He's not great at ad-libbing, except for some few and far between witty remarks.
I like him and occasionally find him amusing, but I think that to say that he is "good without a script" is to give him too much credit. Cheers.
@@Nilguiri incorrect
@@Nilguiri I too disagree with your comment.
He's standing like a 6ft toddler and is 100% the sweetest person currently in existence.
Wasn't that just the cutest omg his posture
He’s a gentle man.
accidental legend
Damian Brown not accidental, he's very clever in his word choice and presentation. Comics are often very smart and perceptive. And i dont mean Amy Schumer
Nothing that he does that makes you laugh is by accident
@@gigixxx1836 you mean funny comedians
Damian Brown ❗️
"Dear Sir stroke Madam. Fire, exclamation mark. Fire, exclamation mark. Help me, exclamation mark. 123 Carrendon Road. Looking forward to hearing from you. All the best, Maurice Moss."

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
I am in an ethical pickle
What a lovely man
if he's a lovely man, then you are stunning baby! oh behave (austin power voice)
Shooter412 ummmm cool... hi
But yes! You are a wild runner... Girl.
unravellings Hi (:
Shooter412 Haha, you awkward sod.
You can feel him almost choking on his happiness. what a brilliant speech ^_^
It's anxiety if anything.
Is he happy? I feel somehow yes, but also seems like he think he doesn't deserve it.
that was the most British acceptance speech i've ever heard!
That, and Colin Firth at the Oscars
It's the most inept.
@@davidz2562 I think you mean self deprecating.
I love that Graham looks like one of his children is up on that stage. He looks so proud! Everyone does.
"I'll leave with less dignity than I came up with." ... just brilliant!
I'd love it of Ayoade was the next Dr......
So people really like Dr Who non-ironically and without just watching it out of nostalgia?
+Sunny Day I love it to this day
ALL OF YOU STOP SAYING "DR" DOCTOR WHO IS ALWAYS "DOCTOR"
Munchiemox So not Dr?
He would despise the fame and the fandom.
i love seeing how happy everyone else looks for him as well...its pretty clear how awesome/loved he is
Yeah I'm Aussie and I just can't understand why he's not better appreciated here (I'll talk about Richard Ayoade and ppl will be like "who?" and I'll have to reference the IT Crowd and still sometimes nothing) - when he's so respected by the UK comedian circuit (I was looking over so many familiar faces GENUINELY v pleased for him).
Olivia Colman was smiling so wide it made me smile too :D
Not going to lie, I got teary eyed when he thanked his wife for 'more than everything'. He is my favourite human!
👏👏👏👏
@@neekfenwick
I bet you're a right hoot at dinner parties.
She was in The IT Crowd as well, the episode where they go to the gay musical and Roy meets one of the stars, Laura Knightley.
He's so effortlessly self deprecating and wry and heartbreaking. One of the best award speeches I have heard.
He did law at Cambridge: what a lad
"And I'll leave with less dignity than I came up with." What a perfect summary of winning an award and having to make a speech. 😁
You could tell that he tried to prepare a speech in case he won but he ended up not 100% preparing one because he didn't think he'd win, but that award was thoroughly deserved! That was the best BAFTA speech ever! Very funny and very awkward, just like Richard Ayoade!
Best?! It was a terrible attempt.
If I didnt thank you its because they cut it..one of the funniest ever quips at these kind of award shows
Richard so deserves that BAFTA! Delighted for him!
+Suzi Morgan when did he get the bafta. 2014?
Suzi Morgan I agree. I think it’s good that he got it as well.
The smile he gives when he thanks his wife. His love for her is worth more than maintaining his character
She was in The IT Crowd as well, the episode where they go to the gay musical and Roy meets one of the stars, Laura Knightley.
He's very good at exploiting his self awareness
Yikak4 hahahaha. That comment, along with your thinking emoji pic :D
Wow I was gonna say this was a great comment but looks like I already did that two years ago. I don't even remember watching this 😂
brruuhhhh totally
@@kozhikkaalan how about now? And now?
"Ohh a lot of people"- honest yet so endearing. Congrats Richard!
The IT Crowd is the funniest show I've ever seen. And Richard Ayoade as Moss is the funniest character. I'm so glad he won. He deserved it.
Tracy Lee I agree. I’m happy he won as well.
But it's his only good work.
@@davidz2562 darkplace? Submarine?
@@clayface563 They aren't good.
I didn't laugh once at Darkplace.
Submarine has some good parts, but most of it isn't good. There are many problems with it. Why does Jordana choose Oliver? Why does he end their relationship? Is his mother cheating or not? Why do they walk into the sea at the end?
@@davidz2562 ah that's just subjective then i guess, I find dark place hilarious. Anyway, have a good day
A very Humble man .
HIS WIFE WHAT A LUCKY LADY!
Laura Knightley, she's gorgeous!
I love this man.
He has that very rare gift of not having to do anything. Although otherwise wildly different, the only other immediate example that come to mind is Tommy Cooper - again, a comedian who didn't have to perform to get laughs, he somehow just WAS funny. Richard Ayoade has that same quality; no performance required, just effortlessly funny. And, he seems like a genuinely lovely man.
It's called self-deprecating.
Must it mean something? Its called deadpan
Actually I'd say it's a very talented performance, he just makes it look effortless.
Tommy Cooper could make you laugh just by looking confused.
the funniest part is that he's actually nervous for this... lmfao richard ayoade what an absolute legend, love you
blows every other bafta speech that has existed out of the water
richard: blinks
me: YOURE DOING AMAZINGG YOURE SO TALENTED I LOVE YOOU
snlcolin honestly same
Comedians always have the best acceptance speeches.
His legs at 1:40 have me in stitches lol
That acceptance speech was legendary!
First time EVER seen turning award acceptance into an instance stand up routine. Richard Ayoade is a beautiful prince of introvert comedy. 💖👏
What an absolute legend 😂 The very epitome of dry British humour, I love it!
this kiss at the beginning and the thanks for “more than everything” for his wife, so beautiful
I love how united everyone is in their love of richard ayoade, he really does deserve it
This man is so freakin adorable.
This just somehow gets more adorable every time I watch it. And I get the exact same kind of stage nervousness... but I can only wish to look so sweet while having it.
Yep, cuter still.
wow I almost forgot how cute it was and here it is, adorable
Richard Ayoade made this acceptance speech one of the best stand up comedy of the year! He does not need any script!
What a thoroughly endearing man :D
"I'll leave with less dignity then I came up with"
Lmao he is hilarious :D
He is too adorable
I love this guy! I find him hilarious, so pleased he's getting the recognition he deserves
He is so brilliant.
It really makes me angry that the editors cut out the bit where he thanked me for my contribution as a fan.
Best BAFTA speech of the night! Me and my sister were in stitches!
All I could think as he stammered was how adorable he sounds!
He is adorable.
He is seriously the best.
Absolutely love how began with a kiss for his wife and ended with a thank you towards his wife. The best thing in life is a supporting partner to be there.
Aw u can hear the anxiety in his voice but he handles it so well im jealous
He handled it very badly. He has very poor social skills.
oh @@davidz2562, does he make you feel replaced?
@@dekumarademosater2762 Replaced how? There isn't a competition, let alone a prize, for worst social skills.
Everybody loves Richard Ayoade.
God it's not fair! How can this man be so perfect? Legend is the word often wrongfully used but in this case, RICHARD AYOADE is a LEGEND and truly a NATIONAL. TREASURE.
Richard's face when it's announced: 'Oh God, now I have to get out of my seat.'
Yessssss! So thrilled for Richard.
well deserved. such a great actor, comedian and writer
he's hilarious and super adorable I can't stand it!
Richard Ayoade is a living legend, I especially love his acting and character in the IT crowd. Amazing
Oh! That's why he won it! A well deserved award
Dean Learner is one of my favorite characters of all time.
how much fun is HE?...everything you see him in you feel sorry for him and want to cuddle him but you also want to SMACK him up side the head for being such a Brainiac....that's Love. and we do love our Richard Ayoade.
Funny, humble and touching without being mawkish. Just perfect.
Always loved Richard and admire the way he doesn't bring smut or bad language into anything he says or does.He is naturally funny 🥰
0:26 That podium makes it look like he is wearing some sort of BAFTA codpiece.
Just watched IT Crowd recently and it's nice that he has gotten some recognition for his acting, he was so amazing on it just happy for him.
He's adorable and hilarious and smart. What a combination!
Good for him. Loved that show!
0:28 that "oh, it's a lot of people" is real. He's nervous. Don't know how he manages to stay in control continuously.
So happy for you Richard!
And I'm happy for you Lucy
minch333 and I'm happy
@Jessica King I'm not happy I'm doc
he makes my heart quiver just as much as his voice in this speech
I watch and like anything with Richard Ayoade in it.
This amazing acceptance speech happened because he ate roast at 4 in the afternoon (in reference to his interview with alan carr).
Legend....
He seems so lovely and genuine:) I literally look up to this man as a role model so much:)
I love how genuinely happy people are for him😍 I just love Richard! he is my favorite person to watch when Im down and he never fails to cheer me up!
9 years later, and the CZcams subtitle still tickles me. "And the basket goes to rigid I awadhi"
How can anyone not adore this guy? He is a gift to all who see him
It was so kind of him to thank me in his speech, pity it was cut for time.
He is top, I can't believe he has the same personality in real life!
Awwwwh James Corden is so happy for him❤️😊
Accidental inventor of the heated bra.
Awww I love him so much and even more at the fact that I don't think he believes he's great 😂 he sounds so nervous and awkward but that's we we all love him 😍
What a brilliant man! And may I say, incredibly handsome as well. 10 out of 10.
Probably one of the best acceptance speeches I have ever heard.
Fizzy...it's fizzy. Thank you my love.
Man who is this guy...why I didn't knew anything about him before...amazing
Richard is funny without even trying. I love him!
I can't get enough of Richard Ayoade.
I want more IT crowd please
I literally watched this video 7 times on loop. Such a man 😍
Wish Jen could have got her own back and wrote an "internet" speech for him hahahaaa
Everyone looks at him with such love and I relate
