This recipe really took me back. I have not eaten turnips with dodgers in them since I left home and that had been a long long time. I really enjoy watching your channel/show. When my children were growing up and as I set the table they’d rush to sit down. And I’d say “mommy can’t cook but she puts a lot of love in it” they seemed to have enjoyed whatever I made-I hope they did.
I’d mentioned to you before that I never really learned to cook (aren’t all Southern Girls suppose to be good cooks” LOL) anyway I had four older sisters and three older brothers ... they were great cooks and I did learn something from them after I was older-much older lol
As the saying goes, “you’re never too old to learn”
    LOVE YOU, Mae Mae

Mrs. Mae Mae, thank you for your recipe. It looks so delicious. I love turnip and mustard greens. I never had the cornbread dumplings in my greens. My grandma and mother would make the pone corn bread. I love the stories, they so remind me of my granddad, and grandma when they had a garden. I miss those days. Food was so much better back then. I love your stories and your channel. ❤️❤️

I have never had dodgers in my greens but now I know how to make the. We had a store that sold the salt pork and that thick bologna. My kin would kill hogs like that. Everybody pitched in to help. They had chickens and a smokehouse too. We just loved to go to their house. The food was so good. One thing I did not like to do. My cousin would lay on the ground, reach in and get me a sweet potato to roast in the fireplace.I was scared of the potato hole.I loved to draw water from the well .These greens look so good. Thank you Mae Mae and Tuck.

Thank you for sharing your turnip recipe. My family grew up on turnips with (dumplings). We never added water to our turnips or cabbage.
    Love your family stories.
Our Turnips and cabbage make their own broth/water when cooked slowly. Makes more than enough broth for dumplings.
Never needed additional water. We fry/cook) our meats in pot which makes the oil. Then add salt n pepper. We use cornmeal, green opinions and turnip broth to make dumplings.
You recipe sounds very interesting. Thank you for sharing.

I really enjoy listening to an older person talking about how things used to be. It almost made me tear up to listen to Mrs. Mae, because she reminded me of my parents. My mother used to make these. She actually called them "meal dumplings" Back in the day when people were poor, they did what they could to stretch a meal. Especially if they had a large family. And listening to Mrs Mae reminded me that we should talk to and cherish our elderly people. Pick their brain and learn from their knowledge and experience. Don't let their wisdom go to the grave with them. That would be really sad. Thank you Mrs. Mae for this video. I'm sure the greens tasted great.
