To be fair games 2-4 Saros was mid. The defence really picked up the slack for him. All the other games he was beast tho.
Nashville actually played really well. They smothered the canucks as well as you could ask for, Van still came out on top
As the Oilers are well aware, defense & goaltending wins championships as the past 3 years the Oilers have lost to better defensive teams the Jets in 2021, Avalanche in 2022 & the Golden Knights in 2023. This series will be a lot closer than most people will believe & i won't be surprised if the Canucks come out on top due to having a better defensive structure than the Oilers.
we have a stronger Defence with Huggy Hronek as our offensive pairing and everyone else is a good shutdown role and our forwards are better in a 2 way game
I think the depth will be a big factor too, once the Oils top 2 lines are off the ice, the Canucks have way more depth.

As a big oilers fan, I can honestly I am quite surprised that the oilers are being seen as favourites...I don't see it...I think it is based a lot on how they beat the kings, which is a team they've figured out after playing them soo many times over the last few years. They have not figured out the Canucks as of yet and I think it will take their absolute best and be a close series at that. Canucks are a dang good team and I'm stoked to see what happens.
As a Canucks fan, I appreciate your honesty. I can't say who is going to win the next round, but as Dean brought out, the majority of the Oilers fan base I have interacted with have just been saying, oh look how points our players have scored. I mean, if that one clip was reminiscent of the rest of the series, I feel sorry for them. The Nashville and Vancouver round was two defensive juggernaut playoff teams. The LA team you guys faced seemed to fall on their faces. If the Oilers fans think the Canucks are going to let McDavid and Leon dance in, man are they going to be shocked. In the playoffs anything could happen, maybe the Oilers win off of some lucky shots and gritty dirty goals in the crease and win, but I don't see it happening. I see Oilers momentum coming to a sharp stop. It's going to be that whoever can grind the hardest is going to win, like the Nashville series was for Van. You know the Oilers better than I do, but I know from watching Van's first round, pretty much all our guys throw their bodies around.
Our defensive coaches are Sergei Gonchar and Adam Foote, one of the best offensive D man in Gonchar and one the best defensive D men in Adam Foote, and both were really gritty guys on the ice. Back in the day.
We also have the best goalie coach in the league as well. Tocchet has won cups as a player and one as a coach and he was a gritty player.
I have never seen a Canucks team in my life that battles as hard as this team this year. And I am 36 and a Canucks fan as far back as I can remember.

The Oilers looked better in the first round, and the Canucks' offense has sputtered, mainly because the team had to play more conservative with the top two goaltenders out, but people forget that the Oilers' defense is weak, and the goaltending has been suspect the whole season. I think the Oilers does indeed have the advantage, but it is so close, that the Canucks could advance too. It will be a good series, regardless.

EXACTLY. People don’t realize that if your top goalie is out, you have to play different because the backup (or back ups back up in our case lol) likely couldnt win you games single-handedly like Demko would. You have to play much more conservative which leads to much less chances.

On a more serious note, I think McJesus and Drais are fantastic but other than them and Hyman, they don't have a lot of output down the lines. Imho, their goaltending will be make or break. I think Petey wakes up and the Nucks continue to get output from the top down and exceptional gaoltending regardless. Van also has mutants on D that should wear down Edmonton but the Canucks need to stay out of the box. (cue CM getting breathed on and falling down, drawing a penalty) Canucks in a nail biting 6. And if Edmonton does take the series, it'll take them 7.

The Canucks have a frustrated forward group determined to prove themselves. Against Nashville they had no ice to move in because of Nashville's defensive commitment (ie blocked shots) and superior goaltending. The Canucks will find the Ice to move in against an oilers defense that is loaded with number 4,5 & 6 defencemen who are prone to puck turnovers under pressure. They also do not have a Soros in net. The Canucks spent the last 20 games playing playoff style defensive hockey. Lastly, Hughes will find the room to free wheel that the Preds shut off.
Lets be real, both are underesimating eachother and whoever wins you know the fanbase is going to rub it in the others face, myself included. May the best team win. And lets enjoy this series that has all canadians eyes on it. Its going to be a wild ride

as a canucks fan, the biggest thing i think for most analysts is the fact that demko is out until at least gsme 5 most likely.. could be even longer we dony know. Thats a huge loss for the canucks, having to potentially use our 3rd string goalie. As much as he did well so far, who knows what will happen. The fact thet we have an amazing goalie normally in demko and that he could be out for the entire series is a big swing vote for the oilers. That being said, I think it'll be closer than ppl think and it won't be a total blowout or anything

Canucks became men in the Nashville series and they know how to close up, battling hard and eat pucks. It's not going to be easy for edmonton and once their world class players are complaining to the refs it falls apart.
Its a team game and the canucks became a better team through overcoming adversity. I watched other series and this van/Nash games were tense. Can't the suits see what this game is like in the heads of each player, when you got big moment contributions from 4 lines, 6 d and 3 goalies. The ice will be tilted on Edmonton.

I’m an oilers fan and I’m scared of the canucks. Part of playoff experience is the losing and even us 0:01 fans feel it. I think there is a big portion of oilers fans that aren’t taking anything for granted and just want to take it game by game series by series. We can analyze this thing to death but in the end it won’t change the outcome. Anything can happen and that’s why they play the games ! Should be a good series either way and can’t wait to watch it!
Skinner is the oilers weak point. I see a Vancouver sweep winning 4 games to nothing. Holland could have got a great goalie but instead bet on Skinner. And if thats not bad enough, they have called jack Campbell back? Absolute insanity. Bye bye draisytl and bye bye oilers.
Oilers power play is lethal and it has a slight edge over the canucks PP. But If van takes it, it’s because of Hughes getting in their way and Miller leading the offensive to beat skinner, who is 90% of oilers defence. Van has a reputation of falling apart in playoffs and the oilers don’t. The Hughes lead defence will be what decides this series.
I think the Oilers will have a slow start due to the week off. That said, the Canucks played a more defensive team in Nashville, but didn't face an offense and PP like the Oilers. This will really boil down to one on one match ups and how goaltending keeps up. I'm calling Oilers in 6 but honestly I can see this series going either way. I'd be baffled if either one got swept.

Ive said this on Twitter before, and they were coming at me like "oh that was in the reg season and that doesnt matter now" like how are they just gonna magically forget how to play that style of hockey?
McDavid and Draisaitl have lit up anyone and everyone in the playoffs, regardless of whether the Oilers win or lose the series, Vancouver will be no different. Doesn't mean the Canucks won't win, they'll just have to play superb defensive hockey while increasing their offence.

@@IanStrain23328 Ended up being closer then expected, I'll give you that. We probably lose to Dallas given how hard it was to beat the Canucks, if the Oilers beat them in 5 like they should've I would be more confident.
Was really entertaining, shame Boeser couldn't play the final game.
@@AmosDohms Yeah Im surprised most Oilers fans were trying to write off the Canucks just because of how they played against Nashville. Like Nashville is a strong defensive team that was blocking everything. Oilers did that too. I really wish we coulda generated more offense. Losing Boeser wasnt helpful either. Wish Petey woulda shown up like we needed him to tho.
@@IanStrain23328 I admire Miller, he's a great player. Silovs was good too, gave the Canucks a chance to win every night. Pettersson and Hughes were really disappointing IMO, didn't see much from either of them.
The Oilers wanted and needed this game a lot more then the Canucks, and it showed. Vancouver really exceeded everyone's expectations, so there's really no shame in bowing out in the end of round 2. Note that the Canucks outlasted the Avs, Canes, and Bruins.
Pretty high hopes for a first playoffs in my lifetime
