    Sewing has surely changed from the 60’s and through the 80’s when I sewed a lot. You do beautiful work and I appreciate you dumbing it down. I sure need it. Thank you.

      Its changed a TON. Starting with the patterns! Those vintage patterns are sewing gold. The fabrics! The difference is night and day. I could go on and on. I hope the sew along helped.

    Thank you I have been hoping for us all along for this pattern for a while. The neck band always gives me fits so I’m hoping to get that right by watching how you do it. Again thanks for the sew along. There are so few CZcamsrs that manage time to do that for viewers. :-)

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Před 2 lety +3

      Sandra, heads up on the neck band. The pattern shows you pinning it on the inside, it is actually meant to be pinned on the OUTSIDE (on the right side of the fabric). Also my neckband was too large. So you have two options. look for a smaller size on the neck band pattern pieces since they are all drawn separately OR you can also start pinning from the center back and work your way towards the front center and then redraw what I call the "bumps" in the center that come down towards the plackets. You will have to ease it in because its curved, so just take your time with it. Use lots and lots of pins on this.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Před rokem

      I usually pick a size based on the finished garment measurements for bust, waist and hip. Most of the time I have to expand the waist (I have my measurements at the bottom of the info box) For this, I wanted it to have lots of ease so I just lowered the dart. But if I really wanted a really really wanted a something a tad more fitted I would perhaps done a bust adjustment but I wanted lots of ease on it. You really want to make sure that your shoulders fit really well and then move on into the bust area. I also have to usually do a bicep adjustment. Happy to talk about it more on my new sew along video. Which right now I need to pick what I’m going to do for a sew along.

    I love your Sew Alongs. I have a question. Do you pin the neckband even to match the front placket. I couldn’t hardly tell. Thank you.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Před 2 lety +1

      You have a 5/8” seam allowance, you have two dots in the collar piece. However, the collar band (which is very unusual from what I usually see in shirt patterns) is about two inches too long, so I had to pin from the center back, get to the front and then redraft the “bump” at the front of the collar band. I’ll be writing a pattern review on this one. A lot of the notches on this pattern also do not match, like the one on the two piece sleeve.

    I just bought this pattern. I normally wear a 16 in McCall patterns. I'm not sure about this pattern. How did u find the sizing? Really enjoyed watching this. I was a bit worried about putting it together.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Somewhat big, I’m about to make it again ….. and I’m going to go down one size and even take it in some more once I make it around the hips. Just watch out for the collar. There may be too much ease in it.

    Did you use cotton polplin?

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Před 5 měsíci

      It is a linen cotton blend. Poplin would work along with cotton shirting, cotton lawn, linen, etc. Just pick a light weight woven and you will be fine with this one.

    Please explain how you shortened the collar😫 I’m making size 6. I’ve never experienced such incompetence in a pattern.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  Před 2 lety +1

      Denise I started pinning at the center back and kept going towards the center front on each side. Once I got to the center front I saw how much extra I had and redraw the “bumps” that finish off and match at the front. I may have to do a blog post on this and take pictures. It’s an unusual way to do a neckband collar in the first place, but the fact that the pattern piece is too big is a woah moment, and not by a little but a lot!
