why use a bright color hoodie.. what about those of us who want to fade black clothing, without it turning into a rust/orange/brown mess.

The results of the orange/brown/rust would depend on how the manufacturer giving color to the fabric
Try white fabric spray paint brother. Spray it at a good distance then put it in the washer machine.
