Can we all agree that Jiu Jitsu is just extreme cuddling?
That's one way to put it.
If by "cuddling" you mean effectively ripping your opponent apart and then choking the life from them then yes
Delay no more.
It’s the art of folding clothes while the person is still wearing them
@@destroyerid lmao
Wow, I've never learned that much from a fight coreography breakdown...

@@ScenicFights Just found it... Thank you!
I'm not sure if it's the camera, but Logan's face getting red as Chad explains the triangle choke had me laughing hard.
The movies with Donnie Yen's have so realistic-looking fighting scenes. I love it when you show how the techniques should be executed.
The old school stuff makes sense, since Donnie learned these techniques in 2002-2004, before all the new and improved techniques. It also seems that some of the errors actually made it easier to shoot the scenes without actually choking out Collin Chou.
100% there are always liberties taken to make sure it's easier to shoot and entertaining! Plus, if Donnie Yen chokes him out immediately, then the fight scene loses its awesome suspense.
@@ScenicFights also I noticed that Donnie changed his fighting style half way though the fight. He noticed that his opponent isn't knowledgeable in ground combat so he decided to attack him with throws and locks
Man that's relationship goals when they were demonstrating the rear naked choke there hooks around the waist
lmao
It gets an A+ for choreography! One of the best fight scenes ever
It makes sense... When I saw this movie years ago I commented the fight would be over at the first armbar. But then it is very likely they left the "mistakes" you mentioned there so the fight can continue which your demonstrations perfection explains.
Donnie Yen was ahead of his time. He does a great job telling a story through choreography with both traditional and modern marital arts.
@@ScenicFights absolutely agree, he was one of the first to bring mma into chinese movies, it is so difficult to choreograph grappling into a movie scene as most people have no knowledge on the moves and he did a phenomenal job
@@ScenicFights Didn't realise Donnie Yen was a master of "marital" arts, love the content, keep it up!
@@dominicmcg2368 He's got a Judo black belt, tkd 6th Dan and BJJ purple belt. Donnie, despite the whole "stunt fighter" aspect, actually knows how to properly throw down.
@@astrosherlock374 I think you missed what I wrote buddy, check the bit in quotes again, I was referring to a humorous typo in the Scenic Fights comment
This guy is such a good instructor.
Chad is an amazing teacher! I highly recommend checking out all his breakdowns, including the John Wick BJJ and Judo analysis: czcams.com/video/_aOpGPQFpPM/video.html
I think when Donnie did the arm bar that way with that much space, it was just for show and to allow collin to have some chance to escape because it looks better on screen.
Agreed. Same with the "old school" triangle. It was intended that way so that collin chou (his opponent) has that opportunity to pick him up and slam him. It just makes for a better fight scene when the opponent has a response to the move.
It was they know how to do it properly but this is a film done for a prolonged fight action scene
Otherwise, the final fight would've been like 3 mins long and anti-climatic. lol
They literally mentioned it in the video. Did u even watch the whole thing?
@@AggroSamurai duh everyone saw. The point is why say something is done for theatrical performances then criticize it saying they could've done it this way or that way
This film is so lowkey and underrated, glad to see it being reviewed!
I love the videos man! Can you break down the movie Extraction with Chris Hemsworth.
THIS!!
Yes please
YES!
Yea please lol
Yes, this!
How does this dude not have more subscribers, this is cool af

Honestly, watching this breakdown is really inspiring me to learn BJJ and wrestling
Flash point fight is my favorite all time fight scene from any movie
Hearing about the space issue brings me back of what my father taught me growing up. Great break down. Subbed instantly
How is this have only 120k views? It deserve much more. Please help share, guys.

Great stuff as always. Cool to see how the techniques have evolved since my jujitsu days. The "new" triangle choke certainly seems a lot more effective and requires less effort from the attacker.
OMGASL, thank you again for the support! We are def trying to get these breakdowns out faster on a weekly base. We def thought the fact that juijitsu is evolving every year extremely interesting! This def has to do with MMA becoming more mainstream and different styles / practitioners looking for new ways to counter old techniques.
In regards to the use of the "old school" triangle, it was probably done intentionally so that collin chou (his opponent) has that opportunity to counter the move and to pick him up and slam him. It makes the fight scene look better since his opponent has a response to it.
Also, bear in mind that this is an "old" film made in 2007. Back then, that was how the triangle choke was done before it later got modified to prevent the opponent from slamming them. They were using the technique based on what was known/done at the time, so you couldn't really blame them.
Either way, the use of the "old school" triangle worked better for the scene.
Can't argue with that! I think Chad was trying to point out that, yes it was probably done like that for the scene for narrative purposes, but also showing the viewers how it evolved over time.
Flash Point is an underrated movie, that movie is one of the best fight movies
It's one of Donnie Yen's best movie! I loved how it was one of the first films to mix traditional kung fu with modern mma. This allows the fight scenes to have a nice mix of realism and flashy entertainment.
@@ScenicFights FACTS💯 I only watch three videos on this channel and I already love this channel ‼️ Watched this, the knife fight from KillZone, and Kengan Ashura. This channel is dope 🔥
Best fight breakdowns on the web
Much appreciated and thank you for subscribing. Is there any other fight scene breakdown that you would like to see from us?
Love flashpoint, one of my favorite action movies as a kid. Great break down guys.

Love Donnie Yen movies, they have a lot of flashie moves but very good scenes, love this breakdowns, can't stop watching.
ACTION FILM FLASH POINT . FINAL FIGHT SCENE IOOK AWESOME ☺👊
While holding a man in a submissive position from behind
"I can stretch him out, put my foot in..."
Me: Well that's the end of this video
You should see the outtakes.
When I broke down this fight for myself, I saw a VERY interesting combination of techniques from at least 4 different traditional martial arts. The very beginning (besides Western boxing and kickboxing) was a lot of traditional Judo. Hip and shoulder torquing movements (turning throws using body movement and the opponent's momentum and weight against them) from a standing or kneeling position. After the initial sequence, I saw a wide variety of techniques from BJJ (close grappling and transitions from various guard positions), classic grappling positions from Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (the classic triangle, for instance, more movements typically used in space), and Hapkido (grapples using various improvised tools such as jackets or improvised hybrid positions).Honestly, one of my favorite fight sequences ever committed to film.
Fun fact, around the time Flash point was filmed, Donnie Yen had a black belt in Judo, and was a purple belt in BJJ.
Donnie Yen is the man! We also did a breakdown featuring his weapon skills here: czcams.com/video/wYJ8KaGBABU/video.html
Great analysis of this fight.
7:34 Till here I think what Donnie did was just for the movie, to make the scene looks more intense
9:30 that was the most technical explanation for cuddling ive ever seen. XD
We don't mess around.
This fight was so ahead of it's time
Donnie Yen was amazing (still is) doing this time period.
God damn I love these videos! Super interesting! I'm glad you also provide context of why they did it for the movie, and then real life application/correction
These videos are so underrated
Holy shit, this is the 2nd video I've watched of yours and I'm hooked! Keep up the good work!
All we need now is Donnie Yen reacting to this breakdown
That would be an honor.
Such technical explanations for this and the knife stuff.
Just found your channel and saw your more recent video on Special ID, was gonna suggest you guys to review Flashpoint and then saw this, awesome (video content too)

Sick channel, you guys should do cell block 99 with Vince Vaughn. Great fight scenes to choose from.
I came here for the Donnie Yen critique but stayed for the BJJ cuddling jokes. CZcams comments never disappoint

Came for the information and action. Stayed for the spooning.
Sometimes I think this is the only reason why Chad and Logan agree to do these breakdowns.
i really really like that we now also got movies where we see modern combat sport stuff.
real cool breakdowns.
keep up the good work
man i love sanshou/sanda
4th video of yours and it’s amazing. And I finally realised that you guys are providing means of correcting certain techniques, but at the end of the film Chou’s character realised he’s outclassed and fleeing. I guess from the story’s perspective, he just wanted to flee, hence he wasn’t trying too much to break. But amazing analysis and demo nonetheless.
Thank you so much for watching our videos! It really means a lot to us. We understand that martial arts actors often sacrifice proper technique for filmmaking, but Logan/Chad try to focus on how these actors like Donnie Yen try their best to incorporate actual techniques within the fight choreography. Donnie Yen does an even better job (according to Chad) in showcasing good realistic BJJ techniques in the Special ID fight scene we broke down here: czcams.com/video/62pu-aU_T6U/video.html
Scenic Fights They’re very good, especially when they’re complimented by a demonstration. I think DY has mentioned in interviews about his work, like you said, about balancing realism and practicality for the shoots. On one hand you want it to look realistic, but on the other you don’t want to put the other actor out for a few weeks either. But I just finished the Special ID video and that one was amazing as well. The fights were criticised as being too street brawler, but I really loved that one fight because of how gritty it was.
While showing the triangle choke and taking your sweet time explaining, your buddy's head was getting dangerously red :D
I wonder could u guys do a video on a difference between japanese juijuitsu to brazillian juijuitsu
That's something we can def look into! Thank you for the suggestion.
YES! That would be awesome. I studied JJJ back when I was a kid, before BJJ became such a big fad in America. It's so hard to find anyone that knows enough about it. Would love to see some content on it!
Special I.D is also a bad ass movie
Please breakdown the MMA movies such as "warrior" or "never back down"
Please breakdown fight scenes from The Raid and The Raid 2! It’ll be awesome if you guys make it
would love that too!
That was so good, excellent commentary on the fight scenes!!!

Awesome! Would you do a breakdown for IP man?
I've seen this movie its pretty good. The fight scenes are great
Flash Point is so good! We also did Special ID breakdown from Donnie Yen too: czcams.com/video/62pu-aU_T6U/video.html
Whoa ok. That first catch. When you demonstrated the footwork. When you drop on a knee, which knee would you generally drop on and which position would your knees be in?
Donnie put so much into this choreography
That was 1 of my favourite movies ever by Donnie Yen cuz it showed his Jiu jitsu brilliantly compared to other films.
Also everyone always talks about Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee but they need to mention Donnie Yen More cuz hes a more modern revolutionized chinese martial artist as hes learned Bjj as well for ground game.
i think more credit should be given to the poor form, which only made it more realistic. that transition from yoko shiho gatame to armbar was terrible, and so was the armbar itself, seems like the elbow wasnt even on donnie's body. which only made it possible for collin to escape.. a proper transition and armbar would have ended the fight immediately.
love the indepth analysis! and kudos on the tips and updates on the latest form and techniques.
Every fckng move Donnie makes is fckng legit, this is a street fight and not a fight with some kind of rules, there are no rules, now I know that you had your fights, I guess, but if you weren't in a street fight, you don't know nothing then, what is actually possible in such fights, and there are no issues in those scenes, don't fuck up his movies, in China, everything is possible, I don't want you to get in such fights, but believe me,if you're scared for your life everything is possible if the Adrenalin goes up..
These are amazing! Subbed today
Just subbed! Please do an intensive review of John Wick 3 with both of them covering the weapons and the bjj. Around 40 mins. No one else on CZcams has it and your guys have Logan and the other dude to kill it for you! :)
I swear as you show the scene I point out what I would do different and then you literally talk about exactly that. I fuck with you guys keep it up. You got another subscriber

BJJ is most dominant martial art ever. Great way to learn self defense.
It is in terms of grappling and ending a fight on the ground, not so much when that's not possible
Do about way of the dragon, Bruce Lee Vs Chruck Norris.
I feel like somebody started "evolving" the triangle choke after they watched the Rampage vs Arona fight... They were like, yeah...we might gotta switch that sh*t up 😂

I believe catch under the armpit or under the need are old they used in judo and bjj for decades.
#secnicfights you should break down some of the fight in an anime called Kengan ashura it’s all about fighting it pretty cool I would for sure wanna see that
Cool breakdown! How about Donnie Yen vs Wu Jing scene in SLP? That’s my favorite fight scene of his.
The weakness of triangle choke is if your opponent stronger with muscle and can lift up and smash down.
Can you do BKO (Bangkok Knockout)?
I feel like I learn so much and could maybe use some things in a real situation but at the same time when a real fight is happening things are gonna be going down so fast there is no way I would remember what move to use or what lock would be better in a certain scenario I couldn’t imagine the speed behind a real fight between 2 skilled fighters I mean really I would not know what to do
I don’t want a like I want tips
The chock at the last part may be as effective! Why? Well, Cuz the guy was actually down and just wanna run away yet if you got damages like that standing up either is not possible/almost dead. Concussion is surely there. Chocking is no longer necessary unluess you wanna kill thehrh person using the chock. Thanks for the breakdown and lessons. At least it validated my idea of head lock putting your one hand on the shoulder or near it.
