Honestly a brilliant business decision. Rimac has some of the best electric technology in the industry and now Porsche and the entire Volkswagen group have access to it
You know about the saying that Porsche is a hedge fund who just sells car as side business well this deal proves it again and they are probably the most future proof company right now in the market like they have their hand dipped in both electric and synthetic fuel vehicles so yeh I don’t think that combustion engines are going anywhere we will most likely see many hybrid supercars like sf90 but at price of a 911 and Porsche is prepared for both the sudden and unexpected failure of electric vehicles (possibility is wayyy low)

There used to be an introduction video on this channel that had the original owners face in and it was made 2 years ago and was unlisted, but it has became private. Luckily I have the whole video saved. The original owners socials are still linked and match the person who is in the introduction video.

I remember watching videos of that electric e30 years ago and thinking “wow what a ridiculously awesome and impractical concept”, but until this video I had no idea that was where Rimac started. I feel like I witnessed history!
Yes. I was near Mate back then. I started to convert my minivan (VW Sharan) to electric power, just to make it more ridiculous. To beat Porsches and other cars with 7 occupants. But I never finished it.
The story of the electric e30 reminds me of the zombie 222 an electric 68 mustang.
At some point I plan on making my 280z electric. Electric conversions are controversial, but I think that it’d be so sick to have an electric classic car.
I remember he then smoked tesla roadster mk1, as that was the first and only competition back then.
Rimac started by laundering his father's money while he was in jail for tax evasion and public funds frauds.

I love Mate. He's such a beast. This comes from a guy who loves I.C.E engines. One thing that should be noted about Rimac, is that Mate got the capital to make his car, because he made and sold of all the individual components that became the concept one. He was a parts manufacturer that became a car manufacturer.

Rimac is already a supplier of certain critical components to other high-performance car manufacturers like Koenigsegg and Aston Martin well b4 the merger. Especially technologies that dealt with batteries.

Mate Rimac held a presentation about his life and company in my university in austria. He even did that in german. Was very awesome back then.
Mate Rimac is a genius both technically and business-wise. This deal is absolutely perfect for him.
literally every top gear/grand tour fan knows about rimac. that's millions of people. they're hardly an unknown name.
also, the crash with Richard Hammond was, at the time, presumed to be due to the on-board computer producing an adjustment from the torque-vectoring traction control system. the variables created by cresting a hill, on a turn, while braking... were unprecedented for the car's accepted parameters causing it to behave unpredictably and it went off the side of the mountain. in my opinion, it was not too much for him to handle. there is a joint video on the Drivetribe channel with Hammond and Mr Rimac that discuss it in legally curated details. though as time has moved on, Rimac dispute this claim of any TVS malfunction.

Out of 7 billions, that's still pretty small in comparison with Bugatti
Americans don't know shit about both shows as much as euro people do. One keyfact, I'm always suprised by how little americans know about rimac, yet here in europe we get so hear and see a fuckload of them. (F.e. the biggest richpeoples carclub was in Croatia at the start of September to race all sorts of supercars against the Rimac Nevera, was a huge event and people overseas barely heard about it)

What they said is correct, i think Donut Media made a video about it... VW bought EVERYTHING from Rolls Royce (the car company part, not the aviation company part), but they forgot to buy the damn name. So BMW snatched up the Rolls Royce name, they didnt even need the plans for what was then "current gen" models because BMW where the main suppliers for Rolls Royce. So VW bought all OLD plans and models, while BMW bought the name and developed a new generation of Rolls Royce. So VW thought they bought RR (which is why RR is in the list in the video), but later found out they didnt buy the most important thing from RR, the name.

Episodes like this is why donut media is so great. Its sort of top gear “the news” segment or conversation street GT but in a extended version. In 20 years time, this genius automotive dealing and corporate restructuring by Volkswagen, Porsche and Rimac would have single handedly shaped the automative industry and our lives, and we will look back at it.
Nolan reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson in that when he started it appeared as though his career choice might not be a good fit for him and then just a couple years later he was so good at his job that you just couldn't wait to see what he was going to do next. I about 2 hours before I saw this video today, I placed bids for stocks in VW and Porche. I would not have placed a bid on Porche had I not seen an earlier video you made about the 2 companies and how they were intertwinted. Thanks and a BIG THUMBS UP for your videos.
BTW, many years ago I bought stock in Geely shortly after it went from making refrigerators to making cars. They recently gave up making the Terrafugia(a flying car) but now they will also be making low orbit satellites. You may want to do an updated video on Geely that you made about a year ago.

All of these conversations about the end of the ICE are making me just so sad, even though I know it is true. Electric engines may be faster, but they don't have the same character of an ICE. 😔
Hydrogen ICEs...I could care less for what we're burning in an ICE but toyota is showing Hydrogen ICES are viable in cars meant to drive 24 hour races.
Just calm yourself. Batteries aren't good for long distance. Hydrogen trucking will lead to Hydrogen infrastructure and cars. And auto makers will make a Hydrogen ICE as an enthusiast project car in a few years.

Electric propulsion means nothing for commercial transportation, You need 8 tonnes of batteriez to pull 12 tonnes in a truck, the ICE Will be alive and well, albeit in a more efficient form.

What they said is correct, i think Donut Media made a video about it... VW bought EVERYTHING from Rolls Royce (the car company part, not the aviation company part), but they forgot to buy the damn name. So BMW snatched up the Rolls Royce name, they didnt even need the plans for what was then "current gen" models because BMW where the main suppliers for Rolls Royce. So VW bought all OLD plans and models, while BMW bought the name and developed a new generation of Rolls Royce. So VW thought they bought RR (which is why RR is in the list in the video), but later found out they didnt buy the most important thing from RR, the name.
BMW vs. VW (VAG or Porsche group).
Interesting story: One company owns Rolls-Royse production, the other one owns the brand name.

Yeah the whole futuristic look they give them really never look good. Telsa and modern hyper cars are the only evs that look good.
