Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful partner Mariana for eight years now.
Together Mariana and I, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

Lovely to see a property that’s not been ‘got at’ ; retaining its Portuguese authenticity. A great small farm prospect with the added bonus of the renovation project house.
I’m currently looking at a ‘postage stamp’ in North Yorkshire for 200k. Makes me rethink quite easily.

I like it. It does need a lot of work, but with the land as well, it certainly looks like an absolute bargain if you look at it in terms of UK house prices!
I'd probably turn the downstairs area of the main house into an open plan kitchen/dining/living space, turn some of the doors into windows, would probably need to add some more windows on the back or sides to get the light flooding in, stick a WC in downstairs.
Then with the upstairs, you could probably combine some of the rooms to make 3 or 4 good sized bedrooms, I'm sure you could probably fit at least 1 en-suite and a family bathroom as well.
It looks like the roof needs some work, as there was some signs of leakage in at least one of the upstairs rooms, so that would be the first thing to get sorted.
With the ruin, I'm thinking workshop for woodworking, electronics and 3d printing. I'd definitely keep the bread oven :)
I'd redo the courtyard with local stone flagstones, as it looks like the concrete that's there is knackered with all the plants growing through it. It would make a lovely sitting and al fresco dining spot, and the covered area would be perfect for a carport.
I'd set up some solar panels, and use the room next to the courtyard gate as an engineering room to store batteries, inverters, solar controllers etc, and run a charging point to the carport for an electric vehicle.
I'd also reinstate the piping for the irrigation system, reinstate the vegetable patches (raised beds to save on backache), and run the irrigation system through a microcontroller so that we're only pumping water when needed, unless the borehole already has some form of pump controller?
There's so much fruit already there, I don't think you'd need more unless you were planning on selling it 😃 Any new owner would probably have to learn to bake or make lots of jam/marmalade!

Our apple tree was covered in blooms, and it's a pine cone year too. Great looking property, somebody can have their business built in like you mentioned. Nice. 🎉

I have a builder that quoted the ruin at €40,000 for a full renovation.
The larger house I don’t have a quote for but I personally would expect to spend about €30,000 / €40,000 on the modernising

Mainly because I’m English taking to a predominantly English speaking audience. Normally I translate every video but some times time doesn’t allow, right now for example we are in the middle of our cherry harvest and we own a cherry farm, so the translating unfortunately could not happen this week, time just didn’t allow.
I see a lot of potential in this property. I guess you don't know if all the buildings are legal?
I would take some parts down and all inside and most likely both houses will need new roofing.
And at the end it would need a pond to be digged. Im always looking for water accès for swimming. And if it's close to a village I see that as a benefit.
But it would need 200k
