I think the series has already technically given as much information as we're going to get about why some devils are allowed to live and some devils are exterminated, although I wouldn't blame anyone for missing it since it's mostly minor asides.
First, we have Aki explaining the Public Safety's approach to using devils after they kill the Leech Devil, that they'm use any tool available to kill devils, even other devils.
The other was during the welcoming part in episode 7, where they explain that the Fox Devil is "friendly" towards humans.
So, putting that together along with the prison in this episode, I imagine that any devil that can be safely contained and is relatively non-hostile and reasonable is allowed to live for as long as they're useful. Since devils appear to have survival instincts and a general fear of death (see: Power, the Bat Devil, and the Zombie Devil who all show a fear of being killed), this is probably an effective threat.
Otherwise, it's like Makima said way back in the second episode: "Dogs that aren't useful are put down."
My thought process as well 👏
Kobeni didn't run faster than bullets, she just ran faster than Sawatari could point the gun.
Yeah, hitting a moving target is hard. Especially one so acrobatic.
@@dig1taltoaster people are so used to characters shooting wildly at their enemies that apparently they didn’t notice how the guns were hardly even being fired here lol
I think the point of showing Aki the letters was that the sister recognized how much Himeno cared about him, and she maybe felt like this was the only way she could honour her sisters wishes by trying to convince him to quit?
I feel like Himeno's sis showed him the letter in order to convince Aki to leave the Devil Hunters which is what Himeno always wanted. It was probably a last ditch effort to fulfill Himeno's wish.
There’s probably an element of guilt as well, the only reason she didn’t go into the private sector was Aki.
@@Mitsurugie666 Yup
What are you guys thinking? Himeno's sister just want Aki know about her sister feeling for Aki. As we see all the letter mentioned about Aki. It's not just one letter but all of them.
God do I love Denji and Power’s relationship it’s one of the best parts of CSM. Denji calling her “Powy” is adorable.
Fujimoto is not a fan of overexposure and leaves alot of things for the fans to theorize. It's really cool tho in the later parts it gets really messy
The world-building is very subtle in this series and it really only gives you enough to tell Denji's story.
If only the dialogue was as subtle. I love csm but honestly it’s jarring sometimes how blunt the dialogue is -like how often characters just say exactly what they think without subtext while the writing when it comes to world building is just emmaculate.
@@jazeroliversy673 is that more the writing or the translation ?
@@jazeroliversy673 can you give some examples?
@@ClarusPolaris personally, I can only attest to the translation for the anime and manga since I don’t speak or read Japanese.
@@FrenxGames I’m studying for a test rn, but I’ll send you detailed examples in around 6 hours or so
Remember guys Denjis heart is a literal devil right now so him wondering if he still has his human emotions is quite valid
it's also a testament to how little he understands the world that he actually thinks human emotions come from the heart
that’s true but your emotions come from your brain not your heart
@@simonsupersad1722 True , but I think this is kinda like Parasite The Maxim situation
not a spoiler
devils i think are a lot more commun than you guys think, remember in the first episode pochita was just walking casually next to denji in the town and no one cared, devils are just a thing that exist in this world, the strong ones are the scary ones, if a random joe stumbled on a ... say hamburger devil, he would not think much of it

@@famezzz190 🤫 it’s just diabetes devil in a trench coat
well tomato devil wasn't scary for a devil hunter, but for a normal human it would be, specially since nobody have guns, but there' private devil hunter, they probably work like pest control, if you have a snake or a bear in your backyard it would probably be scary, you call the pest control, but if you see one along the road, you can just avoid it, any smart devil would probably avoid human too, eating animals instead, just like power was, she only goes toward human because she was blackmail and she instantly got caught.
When I first read the manga I thought the sister gave aki the letters to show him hemino cared for him but now I'm leaning on she did it on purpose to make him feel guilty. She probably has some resentment since her sister seemingly stayed cuz of aki. It also goes back to himeno talking about family members Taking out their emotions on the partners.
As for the world building, having read it, you're not getting a flat out explanation. everything is subtle clues and small bits of dialog you gotta piece yourself. Like as to why the fox has more freedom than the future devil they've said the fox is friendly toward humans and we've seen it has relatively cheap contracts when compared to the bat who wanted to eat kids and pregnant women and future/ghost take whole parts/years off. So I always assumed the fox is just chill as hell compared to other devils and doesn't need to be locked down as hard. Like a real prison, some people get to go out to the yard and enjoy the sun and sone are kept in solitary cuz they're too much lol
I think the sister most likely showed him the letter in a last ditch attempt to convince him to leave public safety, because that’s what Himeno wanted for him.
honestly now i really do think himeno's sister gave that letter as a passive aggresive sign to show that it was aki's fault for her death. if it was to convince him to quit, then it was kinda the worst way to go about it tbh. After reading that letter, i think aki feels more incline to stay to get revenge because it was somewhat his fault in his eyes
@@deadpieces eh, I don’t think she was ill-intentioned with the letter. Her tone when she spoke wasn’t accusatory in any way, and Aki later said that she didn’t chew him out at all. I think it’s understandable for her to hope that the letter could convince him to leave, since it was something Himeno badly wanted for so long.
@@beyondviolet isnt that kinda what like passive aggresive is? you dont really need to sound angry to actually be angry. besides, after watching the ep a lot more times now, i just dont understand how giving the letters would make him decide to quit now. the letters even kinda reads like its saying that aki is to blame for himeno not quitting and ended up dead since he was kinda suprised after reading "how do i get aki to quit? i brought it up, but he just brushed it off". either that or she really did had good intention but was kinda bad at it tbh.
@@deadpieces I mean it could be, but passive aggressiveness comes with attitude which is something that should be at least somewhat noticeable. I didn’t get that vibe from her at all, but then again we didn’t see much of her so idk. And I already said how it was more likely to be a “look at what my sister wanted, hopefully this will convince you now that she’s dead.”
Theres more details to the whole world of devils that are probably not getting revealed this season but for now theres just some who like killing and some who like snacking on people via contracts which vary wildly on their terms (how friendly the devil is to people, if the devil personally likes someone), besides hybrids like denji and fiends like power.
The fox devil being friendly to people is kinda in line with kitsune folklore and the curse devil draws from japanese ritual curses as well where nails are used.
fox are domesticable, even though they can be quite messy, i thought it might have a link, like if there would be a dog devil or a cat devil, i asume they would be quite friendly
Unlike most anime/manga, Chainsaw Man's story is "Only show, (almost) never tell"
Because of the mangaka (Tatsuki Fujimoto) really loves to watch hollywood movies
The reason why they keep some devils alive even though they're devil hunters is because they need their powers and some can actually be friendly.
There's only so much devils you can kill with just using normal weapons like guns and swords.
Kobeni imo wasnt running faster than bullets lol. It just seems to me that shes really fast and usually ppl who r tryna shoot somebody has a very hard time trying to hit a very fast moving target LOL. They were missing shots most likely because shes fast and athletic as heck. I dont think Snake girl and Katana man would even be able to react if she was faster than bullets. Another good reaction though.
I feel like in anime sometimes normal running and super speed running can be tough to tell apart 😅
@@ClarusPolaris It definitely can be for sure😂
My theory is that Devils make contracts with Devil Hunters in order to buy protection from them so they don't get hunted.
Another is that there are different divisions for hunting and capturing devils.
Not a manga reader btw
And there is the yakuza who hunts and sell devils in the “black market”
my guess is that when they can capture devils, they put them in devil jail and from there, like any inmate would they are ready to make deal to get something that make their life a little less boring.
There's been a lot of world-building throughout the series actually, just that it's been very subtle instead of being exposition-ey lol.
As for the devils that public safety use, they're the one's who are willing to be friendly with humans ( we learn it from the fox devil ).
"they're the one's who are willing to be friendly with humans". Nope. They just don't want to return to hell. They only have one option make a contract or get killed and back to hell
10:38 she can re-direct and further control but she is literally passing out while performing this XD so there is that..
Just gonna explain a bit of the world building without spoiling just because CSM is more interested in telling Denji’s story rather than explaining it’s world. Any Devil can make a contract with any human & both parties must keep up the bargain or they’re killed. Fox Devil allowed Aki to use its head for his skin, but after facing Katana man it decided to stop helping Aki. Aki wasn’t actively giving it skin so it was able to cancel it. Some devils work with the Devil hunters to avoid death & some are just friendlier towards humans. Whether they kill a Devil or not I think is up to whether they think it’ll work with them or if they can control it, thats some information we never really receive.
Queen devil? that's a good one.
Goddamnit! Denji only has one braincell! Stop STABBING it!
18:33 They already gave it. The Fox Devil is friendly to humans. Some Devils simply hold less malice, likely based on how humans see the concept. Fox spirits are seen as mischievous and powerful in Japan, but not inherently evil. So you fear it, but don’t think of it as malevolent.
The Fox Devil is contained and is only partially summoned with the hand gesture. As they said in an earlier episode “her body is kept in Kyoto” (the facility).
The Devils they use are the ones that are willing to cooperate and are also useful. Just like Power, the deal is that they help Public Safety, and in exchange they get to not die (and get contracts, which get them something). We don’t really know what they tell the public, but it’s likely something similar, that some Devils are willing to work with humans, or that the have contained the devils and found some way to use their power.
Contracts are voluntary. You can agree to the terms or refuse. A deal that helps them escape would be refused. How they’re contained is never fully explained, just that the facility does contain them. But given that a Devil’s goal, if it isn’t something like world conquest or genocide, is to 1. Survive, and 2. Exploit humans for contracts, the Devils in containment get both. They don’t really have a reason to flee, mirroring Denji and Power.
In the hotel episodes Himeno mentions that Fox devil is physically kept in Kioto and I think Arai mentions that public security is allowed to contract devils, insinuating the general public isn't.
It's not really spelled out, but the gist of it is that devil hunters are supposed to kill off any dangerous devil/fiend, but in the odd case something is docile and willing to work with them, they are captured. And no one cares about weak looking devils, since Denji was able to move around with Pochita for years.
They say in the show and manga that they chose the devils based off their disposition toward humans but I’ve always thought that before they encounter them Makima or another higher up just makes the determination one way or another based on usefulness. That’s just conjecture on my part though.
I'm guessing it's not about deciding which devils you contract with and which ones you kill, it's probably about which one's offer contracts and which one's don't.
So a lot the reasons behind why some devils are friendly or how their powers work is tied to various cultures or mythology. Curse devil has aki use a nail due to folklore surrounding curses in japan. If you ever played pokemon and seen the move "curse" you'll notice it uses a nail for ghost pokemon. Fox devil is friendly towards humans due to foxes in japan being seen as respected creatures in folklore. Lastly you should probably think of the devils like aliens in men in black. Some are like Edgar, Serleena, or Boris who all hate humans and would love to see them tortured or dead others are like Frank, the Twins, or the Archillians either work with humanity, like humanity or just want to be left alone.
this is the 80's. people smoke in the hospitals and doctors still recommend cigarettes and vaccines for your health
Its actually 1997
It's late 90s
*Once you know Makima’s devil, you’re gonna kinda be shocked. But not in this season tho but anyways he’s the only one who brave enough to shut Makima off, because he ain’t scared of her. Also he is crazy strong*
I guess there are devil friendlier than others
Something feels off about this video idk what
The same thing happens to me, I feel that they don't enjoy the anime at all, they don't make sense of anything and they don't get immersed into the story, it seems that they only criticize what happens
They just flew in after being at an event on a delayed flight and likely pushed this out as soon as they could. They’re probably tired.
Theyre probably tired. Most of their reactions clearly showed they enjoyed the show
@@LuxLoser agreed
You should react to mushoku tensei (jobless reincarnation) its amazing
Anemia results from a lack of red blood cells or dysfunctional red blood cells in the body . Iron helps make more red blood cells .
The devils may be like dark verson pokemon in Chainsawman.
When kishibe loves you more than makima ever will
I love how chainsaw man pulls you on with all this action and then explain afterwards
I love how whenever something twisted happens the guy is laughing/ amused and the girl is just completely shocked 😂
You’re supposed to put together a lot of the world building on your own. That’s part of the Chainsaw Man pacing experience lol
He wasn’t breaking them after they already fully manifest, a few were still coming down and he broke them off.
Dont ask me the color of anything
I believe some Devils are friendlier than others. They would contract with those and kill the dangerous ones. We've had yet to meet a Devil that is dangerous for the public and not tracked by the Safety Department. Also if you kill a Devil they don't really die. They will always come back as the fear of the idea behind them never disappear.
Kobeni is not as fast as the bullets she just knows where theyre aiming at. We still dont know what devil she had a contract with
So I can say this much about the devils. There is hell in this world, and the devils are reincarnated between hell and human world. So yes, containing them is the best option
Relationships goals be like:
-We will fly to my parents house, we will miss an SWM episode :(
- Oh... :(
LOL, I'm fairly sure this dude 5:48 from special division 1 is modeled after Mads Mikkelsen
I will say there are answers to your questions, but we probably won't get it this season. Fujimoto is a very show not tell kinda guy so exposition and that kinda stuff doesn't really happen to the same extent that it does in something like AOT
He punched the blood spears to assert dominance and to have more space to fight
Chainsaw Man follows the principle "show don't tell"
THE FUTURE RULES!!

it's cute how denji says he doubts that he'd cry if power dies but at the end she died he did cry

Ok I absolutely endorse your proposal for The Toolshed
Kobeni didnt run faster than bullets the girl just isnt good at aiming. Or not good enough.
Ooof 32 hours? My sympathies.
I had the same questions, the show will get there.
All will be forgiven once the Attack on Titan episode 5 reaction drops

How to train your devil lol
Woot woot
Wow 36 hours, that must have sucked.
I think the speed issue is actually a problem of the adaptation from Manga to Anime, in the original story she didn't go that apeshit and actually landed next to Denji after taking off his arm. I guess they thought her running like that would make it look more Dynamic?
Devil Prison spin off sounds hella fun.
