  • Entered my first ever hare scramble and ended up getting 2nd in the Vet C class riding my 2022 TM en300fi. The Golden Spike Hare Scramble in Packwood WA was a great event and I will definitely be entering some more in the future. The TM en300fi ran great and had plenty of power, just need to get the suspension dialed in for my weight. Took it easy to start due to my clutch dragging after switching the master cylinder to a 9mm, and to get a feel for how things were. Quickly figured out nice guys finish last and started making moves to pass people.

      Thanks a lot! I sign up for Vet B this season and have my second ever Hare scramble next weekend. We'll see how I do in the next class up!

      I just signed up for the NMA race series and entered the Vet B class... I might regret the decision to jump up a class, because Vet B has to do the long course, which is normally double the laps of the Vet C class. I figured that if I place second in my first race ever, that I should go up a class and push myself. I better up my cardio game ASAP! 🤣

    Getting held up on a tight single track is one of the most frustrating parts of enduro racing when you're clearly faster than the guy ahead of you, and they won't move over with no clear way past.

      Yes it is! this was my first race and i learned that I need to be more aggressive on passing and getting around people, even though the slow people purposefully try to block you. very frustrating!!! Even worse when the check point people hold you up by ripping your tag off, and let the slow people pass you, so you have to try to get around them again...

      @DTR DOWN TO RIDE yeah I thought wtf are you doing mate when he ripped your tag off 🤦‍♂️ and yeah definitely gotta be more aggressive! If you don't stick your bike in a gap, the guy behind you will!

      @Clint Anthony you are definitely right. I guess I understand the saying "rubbing is racing" now. 😅 we'll see how I do in the next class up. Just gonna have to step up my game I guess 👍

      Yeah, I was held at an old lumber mill. So you go into the woods and then back out onto the slick cement.

    I’m really intrigued by TM’s EN144, I’m not a good enough rider to need a 300’s power, but a 144 would probably be more useful

    • @dtr_downtoride
      @dtr_downtoride  Před rokem

      The 300 is nice because you have more low-end power, so you don't have to ride in the power band as much. The 144 probably rips, but you'll also probably need to be in the power band constantly. I'd love to try one out. With good clutch control, you can ride anything 👍

    Howzit I was wondering what map mode your in and what gear you were mainly in 🤙🏽

    • @dtr_downtoride
      @dtr_downtoride  Před rokem

      I mostly ride mode 1, as it seem to have been power everywhere. I was mostly in 3rd gear in the woods. I have a 50T sprocket in the rear and find that I rarely need to go any lower then 2nd as long as I have some forward momentum. the bike lugs very well without stalling.

    This is a strange, strange course. And I don't understand how you're being scored when it appears that they just use punch cards. No clock in sight, no course workers with backup score sheets.

      Yeah, I was pretty frustrated when the guy ripped my tag off at the first check point. Was my first Harescramble, so I didn't know what to expect. The Sprint Enduro the next day was much better.
