  • This was the first race in the NMA's Off-road series, the Spring Hare Scramble, at Horn Rapids. This was my second race ever and decided to try to go up a class to Vet B. The Vet B class was six 11.5 mile laps for a total of 70 miles. My bike ended up fowling a spark plug while on the starting line, and by the time I changed it, I was 11 min behind all 24 riders in the Vet B class. I raced my own race and ended up getting 13th out of 24, which isn't that bad given how far behind I started. Hopefully things will go a little better a the next race.

    Sorry to hear the issues of fouling the plug at start. Glad you got it sorted and got to race.

      Yeah, I've never fouled a plug on the bike before, so was really surprised. Think it was a combo of too much oil on my air filter, plus a filter skin for the dust, and it being so cold. We'll see how things go at the next race this coming weekend 👍 thanks for the comment too!

    Enjoyed the scramble and can do attitude before the actual scramble! This looked like a blast of a place to race though.

      Thanks a lot! It was definitely a fun race. Luckily, there was a little rain prior to the race, as this race is known for being extremely dusty. The whoops made me realize pretty quick that I need to work my legs out a lot more 😆

    Such a fun race. Sure wish my gopro recorded something.

      Sounds like out of the 4 of us, my Gopro was the only one that got any footage. Don't Gopros rock? 😅

      Much appreciated 🙏 TM definitely knows how to make a good looking bike. Just need to get the fueling squared away before the next race 🏁

      @@dtr_downtoride Yea nice you got the FI one?? I got a 2022 carb 300 three weeks ago absolutely loving it!

      @Damien Morales yeah, I got the FI. Most TM owners are saying the carb model is the way to go, though. I ride so many different elevations out here and didn't want to have to worry about jetting. One of these days I'll have to try a carb TM 300 out 👍

    Need to be physically fit. That was very action packed. Nothing like that in Alabama. VERY COOL! Enjoyed the video and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE! Ha Ha!

      Yeah, you are right about that, Henry. One of the main reasons I decided to race was to motivate myself to get back in shape. 36 and sit all day for work, so the weight doesn't stay off like it used too 😅 I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos and leave comments, also 🙏

    What sag do you have in your bike?

    • @dtr_downtoride
      @dtr_downtoride  Před rokem

      Good question, I had my suspension done by EVO and they recommend 100 to 105mm, while TM's manual says 90-105.
      after this race I realized my sag was incorrect. It was at 114mm with all my gear on, I had set it without my Backpack and waist band on. Will be putting it to between 100-105 again.

    I'm (supposed to be) getting my TM on Friday and I'm racing on Sunday... God I hope the damn thing doesn't foul any plugs. It's the carb model. I will definitely be throwing a plug and wrench in my tool pack.

      My bike has 49 hours and this was the first time I've had it actually foul a plug. I do normally change the plug every 2nd oil change though. Someone did make a good point that TMs are race bikes and need to be ridden as such. I'm going to ride a gear low next race and see if that will help. This race was cold and delayed, so the bike idled a lot more than what was shown in this video.

    A two stroke does not need to be warmed up during the day because of the cold. It should be started, warmed up slightly then riden easy, then hard. Watch Jeff Slavens on starting a two stroke. I dont think this was a bike issue.

    • @dtr_downtoride
      @dtr_downtoride  Před rokem

      Can't start a race by riding the bike easy, so the bike has to be warmed up prior to the race start/line up. This race was delayed multiple times, so the bike would cool down too much due to how cold it was. Unfortunately, you can't just get on the bike and ride around when on the starting line. Trail riding I haven't had this issue, but others have definitely reported their TMs frequently fouling plugs. I've purchased a cable and software to monitor and change fueling as needed.
