And even if it [Ukraine] didn’t run out of weapons, he added, it will run out of men: a war of attrition “leads to the lack of Ukraine's ability to achieve superiority over the enemy in reserves by increasing their number.” A close Zelensky aide told TIME that, even if the United States gave Ukraine all the weapons it needed, Kyiv doesn’t “have the men to use them.” In short General Zaluzhny is saying that to win we have to win fast.

It's hard to see how Russia can get any advantage from the use of a nuclear weapon. The front is too dispersed for it to be effective and the Russian army so degraded that it couldn't operate in a nuclear environment anyway. So it would only be a political weapon - now could the west backdown because of it? Of course not because then it would be the Baltics and Poland and so on ... And how would the rest of the World react - well their main supporter China has indicated it would be unacceptable and for good reason, if Russia got away with it, Taiwan could probably go nuclear within a year and there goes China's future plans. Proliferation would go ballistic - literally.
And at the end of the day, Putin may be mad and order it but there are a lot of people under him in the chain of command who have families, Dacha's, foreign bank accounts with the proceeds of corruption .... are they going to risk that or will Putin get a Kalashnikov induced brain haemorrhage?

What I take home from nearly an hour of Kate's and James' informative and very troubling at times interviews with some of the talking heads in know about geopolitics is that we live in a very dangerous world and that even when things cool down and the wars stop, we must not get fooled again into being submissive and turning off our defensive capabilities.

@@Withnail1969 GGGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. We're a few hours away across the channel from you, but of course you are right and add to that a long list of things that should never have been allowed to get so run down. However, the planet needs The United Kingdom as a superpower for stability and guaranteed peace. I believe Britain needs a space station which would put it on the same page as everyone else trying to get a piece of the action over our heads. A British Space Command center zooming out in space would send a message to belligerent powers like none other and give the British an eye in the sky. Space wars are just around the corner. In short, the UK has got the mentality to be a world power, because she has always been a global thunder cloud. The thing about money is that there is never enough, but funny enough, you can always find enough to start this project, or that one. Richard Branson has the rockets to space and a workable space station functioning is not something that is impossible. Time takes care of the rest---and the infrastructure.

It is not a viable option at all because the US , UK , France ( Nato ) all have nuclear subs all over the place and Nato has nuclear weapons on land also. So if Russia fired any nuclear weapons at least a 100 nukes would be going back at Russia . So mutual destruction is not a great winning tactic for either side . However if Russia keeps making threats then Nato might just decide to strike first and take out Russia's nuclear capability . Putin making those kind of threats is a dangerous game .
