The key to all great surfing is the bottom turn and having a board with proper length for your surfing. Volume didn't everything. If watch guys surfing these shorter fatter boards it affects their bottom turns. How many time do you see guys having to shorten up their bottom turn Bec the planing surface is do small, they can't hold the line. Sure the top part of the wave they can still perform high performance tricks but their flow is interrupted. KSs boards are very balanced and he gains speed in his bottom turns. 🤙😷🇺🇲

Saw Kelly in 1999 coke classic with surf 1 foot high. Kelly rode those very little waves on a short board for 150 metres,weaving magic detail the whole way to the beach,

There's something to be added here about sideslip.
Sideslip kills the speed of a turn
like trying to pump a skateboard on wet or dusty pavement as opposed to dry freshlyly paved

I’m a bigger surfer(built more for football or rugby). Can you do a tutorial/analysis of a 6’ + 200lb + pro surfer? Maybe break down the top 5 tips/tricks to surf better when your a big boy… not fat, big and muscular.

Pretty amazing analysis. Poles indeed . When I was skating a bowl and couldn’t figure out speed a buddy said turn at these four spots - he was right and I unlocked the bowl

@@ombesurf if you interviewed KS tomorrow what questions would go into, now that you know what you know about surfing technique? Like what does he do still that gives him an extra edge that normal humans don't see?
How about backhand surfing, could you explain how Kelly approaches does turns?

Great analysis. How much of a role does the amount of compression he gets at the bottom turn and timing of his release play in generating speed from his bottom turn?
Not too much not too little, just right.
how can we put this technique into action when surfing 1 - 2ft mushy waves... bogged rails ? but 100% i agree and can FEEL how that works ...
Think tetherball, centrifugal force or centripetal force but you get the idea 💡;)

Born and raised here in Ocean Beach San Diego Ca, I have been fortunate enough to have so many different wave conditions to choose from in jetty’s, sandbars, piers, reefs point breaks. Waves dictate your surfing, not the other way around. 🤙🏼🔱⚡️⚡️
