I agree with this analysis. Just watched his heats at Sunset and was very impressed. I think at one point they want to use the word “pocket” to describe his approach- he leverages all the energy of the pocket. Reads the wave and adjusts very naturally, and just really masters the turning power of his board. I see a lot of surfers doing the mid-face bottom turn, sometimes a double pump, looking to project down the line for air moves. This moves are good but it’s nice to see the classic old school style with Ethan - very refreshing.
quite a smart call about dragging out the pocket source dude. his rise and fall is the best ever on a shortboard. wade charmicheal is also sick at this charmicheal
AGAIN!! Another great breakdown of form function and fun! Dating myself … a Surfer Magazine show that used to play on ESPN way back in the early VCR days they would always ask pros a set of questions and plays clips as a quick segment. State of the art surfing is what? That was their question and it was good! I remember Tom Curren said it’s all about positioning and timing! That’s what I still see these guys display! They know where to be and when to get the power! Then throw on burying rails!!! Curren… Occy…
very good video. The coach seems to have great knowledge. i would appreciate a video about the review of the finals of the CT on the battle between Toledo and Medina. Who surfed better and why,
His mother Helen was a great surfer as are his brother Curtis and Brodie, but EE is head and shoulders above the world, his performance in his heat with Kelly at Pipeline was a very clear sign of the changing of the guard.
When he drops his hands (as the guy on the right asked) looks super styish and it's almost like a bonus pump coming out of the wrap into the next bottom turn
great channel indeed, this is soooo fresh surfing content. I'd love to understand better the subtleties between surfing on fins Vs rails , how both feel, and if it's just a matter of leaning.
You did not breakdown (as the title suggested) how, when and why he transitions from toe side rail to heel side rail which would have made a really interesting video maybe do this with conner coffin whos rail game is awesome
Totally agree, mate! I was hoping to see a breakdown about the movement of his feet. How Ethan projected the rail into the wave and changed side by side.
Yes!!!! Definitely YES 👍 Ethan is the best stylish and perfect surfer in the world!! Need style point for him 🙌 I love his style so I correct his surf video like drop his clip, Competition’s, Instagram story, post, and something like that. I almost get 500 haha
Knees kissing....reminds me of Margo in Puenta Pequena, Maderia....a long time ago. First time i saw a surfer completely relaxed in powerful conditions.
were having a discussion this afternoon near manly about the merits of the professional breakdown approach. definitely think it is the way to go. can you run some variations of different riders techniques when it comes to staying task specific as you take off. texta on the deck. stuff written in wax. marble in your wetsuit chest key words with actions attached. these are things ive tried and only have success on 2/20 18 other waves, the take off vision dictates my task objective. short waves dont help
I'd love to know how your equipment could be limiting you or the manoeuvres you can perform. I noticed that Clayton mentioned that his board was maxxed out! How would I know what my (bigger) board limits are?
Clayton, first thanks for the tips! The front on thing Ive been working on, but one thing I’ve noticed is when the surfers do bottom turns it seems (to my untrained eye) that they shift from front on surfing to more of a crouched side on forward lean. Could you explain the transition if there is one?
Wait....no way Ethan Ewing makes surfing look even better than AI. These are two different animals you just compared. ANDY WOULD EAT ETHAN ALIVE ANYDAY.
EE is such an amazing surfer. As mentioned, so underrated..

Hey man!! Great idea, Would you be able to submit your idea here? -> ombe.co/roadmap Thanks!
Great idea. My votes for Toledo. Unmatched rail game!
Such a great channel guys! keep it up. Biggest takeaway is probably Ethan's technique and how he compresses and uses his hands!
Best surfer in the world to watch right now 👏🏽 Should definitely be scored higher 🙌🏽
This channel is awesome :)
Thanks for the quality of everything!

Best style EVER
Is there any exercise we can do on the surf skate to practice surfing on rails?
Great video and analysis content
You should do Crosby colas turns he’s not as mature as griffin but I reckon his cutback technique is next level

@@CedrickGomes copy paste maybe?
These videos are more interesting observations and not how tos
@@ajj4483 The title of the video is "How to surf rail to rail with Ethan Ewing"

Awesome observations and great for helping with visualition techniques out the water 👌
Most people's rails are like the Sahara desert compared to EE!! So refreshing to watch

This is what I needed, thank you
You mentioned the board loves to be on rail; what aspects of design would facilitate that? Nose and tail rocker, rail edge, tail width, etc.?
the wave energy points, the rails technique

Awesome. Was hanging for this one. 2 More OMBE style surfers for future Coaches eye reivew Brendan Margieson and Jai Glindeman
Great video, thanks guys
Man Im loving this channel! Yeww
Can you analyse Dave Rastovich?
What do you think would be a good surfboard shape to surf rail to rail? Maybe a narrower board?

Watch the video they did on Kelly Slater, he explains it really well
Yay
Fanatic clay is a genius
he has alot of Shane Powell too
Where do you guys find these videos to review?
It's all in the details...🤬No need to cut short the breakdowns.
And Dane
The stoke is real
A.I 2.0
👍🏽
So much focus on the hands, but nothing about the hip/ankle flexibility required to do this kind of loose surfing.
Good video
