I don't use any resources for my garden because I want it to be inexpensive. I only use what I can get in my yard including the fertilizer. This year it cost me nothing. I used a knife to hunt the slugs, compost tea for fertilizer, and the dirt from under my feet for all of it.
It doesn't cost a cent to recycle plastic contains from the kitchen. Yogurt ore deep trays and containers with holds drilled into them. Shallow trays are great for tiny seedings unless they dry too fast... a mist bottle works great for that.
    I grow small amounts.
The uniformity is very important for your kind of production. You have that under control. That's great. If I was doing production I would use tiny pots too. That would be a worth while expenditure where repurposing is not possible.
I need it cheap. I can save 100 dollars just using stuff around the place.
    I like you smooth presentation.
    Thank you.

Jeffrey Gleaves Growing tobacco is only part of the battle. You'll need to be prepared to hang it to dry and, for cigars, ferment it after drying. For small amounts, you'll need a tobacco kiln. I already roll my own cigars from leaf purchased online, but I plan to grow some in 2016. Good luck with yours.

I noticed you said they like wood ash, which is true. Great source of potassium and phosphorous, but have you tried using terra preta instead? Basically you just make a bunch of homemade charcoal and mix it with your plant scraps and animal waste and let it sit for a week or two. The porous nature of the charcoal soaks up and holds on to the nutrients, releasing them slowly and reliably to the plants growing in it without being washed out by rain. You promote a dense area of soil to contain all the nitrogen, potassium, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper and so forth a plant could ever want, while not allowing the root system to burn itself out. Thought the video was very thorough and informative.

you are a genius! thanks for sharing all your growing information. I really like the idea of using the cups and rain gutters for automated watering troughs. I wonder if this will work with other garden plants as well?
how much soil does a full size tobacco plant need? a full 5 gallon bucket?

Hey Larry i know I'm 8 years late to the party but I've germinated about 18 and there getting tall and lanky, about 20 days old or more, Im using a old study lamp shining into a plastic small tub, however a couple have mysteriouspy fell over, should I transplant them? I only have a bathroom UV vintage light installed with a cupboard, a pack of 25 smokes are $40 here in Australia, I really wanna make this work, my son has autism and tobacco helps me as it's alot on me everyday, I'm greatful for advice if you have any.

Hi, i'm in Melbourne and (trying to) growing tobacco is the only choice i have, i'd never pay the money they ask for a pack of smokes, it's outrageous, licensed theft.
