I've only just got around to playing Portal 2, and can't believe how utterly perfect Merchant was for Wheatley. They couldn't have cast someone better.
He is, completely perfect.
The most ironic thing he was valve's second choice, Richard Ayoade (Moss from the IT crowd) was going to do it, but he was busy!
I do like Ayoade but that's an odd choice, I feel Merchant was the perfect choice :D
Mr. Warmo actually merchant was the first choice but they presumed he would be uninterest so they contacted Ayoade. However Merchant was interested and got him aboard.

I love Wheatley so much. He got so confused and couldn't handle all that power, so he turned bad. When he was released, he ended up regretting his decisions, unlike Glados, who was still super low key, even if she saved you. He was a confused little robot who I still think is the cutest A.I in all fictional existence.

Well GLaDOS also admits that the mainframe she was connected to did make her evil. When she was a potato, she even says that she doesn't know what's wrong with herself (besides the fact that she's a potato). This isn't really their fault as the mainframe itself is what causes them to become evil.

Well, tell valve that they need to grow up, and make a miracle happen.
They basically did portal 3 in Lego dimensions. I haven't played it myself, but watched the portal part on CZcams. Turns out there's close to 2 hours of gameplay that picks up after portal 2 ends. Wheatley returns from space and you fight Glados twice! They even did a full end credits song!

I went into Portal 2 blind after playing the first game, and I was completely blown away by Wheatley's voice. It fit him so well: nervous and confused yet charming. Merchant as Wheatley is an example of perfect casting

Wheatley turning evil WAS the least expected thing for me, not just in game, but in any medium of entertainment ever. I never once expected this lovable awesome funny dude to turn so wrong. The whole time he was turning evil I was barking at my screen saying "Wheatley no! Wheatley you're better than this come on! I believe in you Wheatley don't do this!". The whole time that he was evil I never quite hated him as much as I hated Glados, I just wanted him to come back to being himself.
He actually looks like how I'd picture Wheatley if he was a human.
I can't switch tabs without thinking it's a clip from the game.
He did an amazing job on wheatly's voice. He is hillarous. Like at the end when he was explaining the cards and the puppet strings. And the extra bit of dialog most people missed!

Wheatley is one of the most hopeless characters I've ever encountered in a video game but that hopelessness has a very lovable charm to it, which is why he is (beside GLaDOS, no matter how much bad she's done i can't bring myself to hate her) my favourite character ever! I do hope someday there will be a Portal 3 and we get Wheatley back once and for all!

I remember when Wheatley turned bad... broke my heart... it really did. Every time I watch that clip I still feel as if I'm watching it for the first time, the same crushing feeling of a friend leaving you. I think Stephan did a fantastic job with the Wheatley character because he added to the charm and likeability of the already charming character. Yet, when Wheatley turns bad you can still find some glimpses of the same old likeable Wheatley but he's burried deep within his hunger for power.
