they also are used to find tuberculosis, trafficked animals (namely very endangered pangolins), and help people trapped in debris from natural disasters. Check out APOPO and their hero rats for more they’re incredible
Even guinea pigs nip. Holding one of mine yesterday, she decided she wanted down so I got a little nip on my chest. How much are these guys like fancy rats? They seem similar - aside from the much greater size obviously. Do they live longer? I kept rats for many years, but their brief lifespans kept breaking out hearts so we stopped.
@Veronicaaaa33 I know! I've read about them for years. Very cool to see them on video in an everyday type setting. I am surprised at how big they are. Those teeth are formidable. I'm not even sure we can get them in the US anymore, they were tied (how justifiably, I don't know) to monkey pox (which sounds unpleasant.) Anyways, thx for the response 5-7 yrs so similar to guinea pigs.
I can't imagine getting biten by a Pouch. The fancies hurt bad enough as is...and I mean BAD.
From my understanding these pouch rats find land mines are they trained to do what they do. Amazing

They’re called “Gambian pouched rats” and they live for up to 5-7 years
