  • “Artillery is the god of war.”
    This statement was made over half a century ago and still remains relevant to this day.
    In today’s video, we’ll be talking about the self-propelled artillery pieces that the foreign allies of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have shared with them and evaluate their impact on the effectiveness of the fight against the Russian occupiers.

    The producers of this video did a lot of Weapon Research to be able to describe in detail features of the many different Howitzers 155 s and other calibers. Ukraine badly needed the artillery weapons of all types. Training the soldiers on how to operate so many different artillery Guns from different countries makes it much more difficult to put them in the battle. Ukraine has met this challenge and is doing an outstanding job making the best use of them, they are quick learners. One Ukraine commander said he and his men spent 24 days in France learning how to operate their artillery with no days off, they are fighting for their survival and giving all they have.

  • @andreasarnoalthofsobottka2928

    These vessels are just the delivery system for the warheads. So the exact type makes little difference. The real game changer is the ammo. With self guiding base bleed granades the Ukraine is able to shell the russians with previously unknown precision at any place closer to 40 km from the frontlines, and change position before the first Impact. Though the russians may have 1000 Artillery pieces, the Ukraine only needs some 1100 shells to turn them into scrap metal.

    • @hisredrighthand5212
      @hisredrighthand5212 Před rokem +7

      You're talking about the Excalibur rounds? Or the PGKs? They increase the precision of a PzH 2000 to 5m over a 28km distance. While with an M777, they increase precision to a mere 50m radius. Which btw goes to show that the exact type can make a huge difference, in this case a factor 10 difference in how useful something like the PGKit is. Apart from that it obviously makes a difference that the PzH2000 has twice the rate of fire compared to some other systems. If you shoot-and-scoot and only stay in one position for a minute, it makes a difference if you're able to fire 2 MRSI volleys or just one, or none because your system isn't MRSI capable.

    • @cz1589
      @cz1589 Před rokem +11

      Wheeled SPG can shoot and scoot faster, compared with tracked versions. But armoured SPG is safer in heavily contested area's with a lot of counter batteries. But Cesars are cheaper then the PZH 2000 and often require less mantenance.
      Beside the sort of ammo, western supplies can continue, while old soviet stocks are running out. So Ukraine relies most on the western allies to continue the war.
      Also, gun barrels get less fast worn out, with accurate shots instead of the Russian style of firing thousands just to get one hit. Someone wrote the Russian will probably lose 15 guns a day just because of this.
      Newsflash: the U.S will ship another 4 Himars to ukraine, to a total of 16. Lavrov kiss my ***

    • @andreasarnoalthofsobottka2928
      @andreasarnoalthofsobottka2928 Před rokem +6

      @@hisredrighthand5212 I'm particularly talking about Suchzuendermunition. These are shells that have a microwave radar to actively look for predetermined targets and then release two daughter warheads to make a top on attack. It is said that a coordinated attack of the two warheads can hit a moving target, and a 10 second blast by a battery of 4 (4x3x2=24 warheads) can destroy a colomn of up to 20 vehicles.

    • @hisredrighthand5212
      @hisredrighthand5212 Před rokem +4

      @@andreasarnoalthofsobottka2928 But those don't have 40km range, rather 28-30km max. - since the rounds break apart mid-flight to release the two submunitions. And to hit a convoy on the move you'd have to be able to determine with 150m precision the area where those vehicles will be at the time the submunitions start descending on the battlefield.
      Also to my knowledge, you can't pre-program the target, the submunitions fall at slightly reduced speed due to a tiny parachute and scan what amounts to an area of about 70,000m² for enemy armour, which they identify based on an internal database of enemy equipment. Once they've locked on, they steer their fall towards the target and blast an "explosively formed penetrator" into the top of the target.

    • @hisredrighthand5212
      @hisredrighthand5212 Před rokem +3

      @@cz1589 I think barrel wear and tear might particularly be a concern for the CAESAR. Why else would they only carry 18 rounds with them on that large truck? They can shoot-and-scoot three times before they need to reload.
      Edit: On the other hand they have the OGRE rounds, which seem ideal for taking out stationary artillery batteries. They release 63 grenades over an area of 70x70m, which can penetrate 9mm of armour - too little even for an M113, but enough for the usual armour of self-propelled howitzers and also enough to seriously damage stationary howitzers.

It’s an army creation that was briefly considered for the Zumwalt’s guns after the USN decided to abandon production of the the AGS’ original guided projectiles because they cost almost $1 million a round-almost as a much a cruise missile. Eventually the Navy concluded that using the Excalibur round would require too many modifications to the naval guns & wouldn’t provide enough range.

Perhaps I should consider Ukraine as part of the family since NATO is putting it's self at an acceptable risk in aiding Ukraine. Joining NATO is like joining a family, in the old days our princes and princesses would marry to form these family bonds and by unification we become stronger together. I think NATO should allow Ukraine to join ASAP and provide that next level of jeopardy for Putin's tyranny and show Russia we mean business by standing together. They need to move those outside the himars range, doubling the logistic range for supplying their units. Soon or later, debate will start when to supply Ukraine with the long-range missiles, hitting targets hundreds of miles away.
      We need to think in months, quarters and years instead of weeks or even days. But for the long run, Ukraine can build up their strength. In 6 months, they can start using western jets.

Latter these artilleries will likely hurled upwards towards mayhem targets tons of shells capable of eliminating industrial objectives or key infrastructures in one blow.
